Chapter 1213: Chapter 83: Awkward Offense

The city under the night sky was like a ferocious beast that had just awakened, baring its huge gaping maw, eyeing its prey. Even with stars scattered across the sky and the moon shining brightly, the cold intent to kill was unsettling.

Captain America saw that the Chinese had not brought Eve with them and understood they too were losers. Under normal circumstances, he would have withdrawn, definitely not bothering with a futile effort. However, the appearance of the Howling Reaper made him reluctant to let go.

"I’m taking a risk here. If the soldiers’ intel is wrong, I’ll not only waste time but also lose several fighters." Wanting to capture the enemy unscathed was simply impossible. The American team leader didn’t see any machine guns among them, which made him start thinking about retreat.

Although these soldiers were dispersed to avoid attracting attention, each carried a bulging mountaineering bag, with a solemn expression and a hard-bitten air of iron-blooded soldiers. In front of Tang Zheng, they were like fireflies by a pond, bright and impossible to mistake for anything else.

"After all, not everyone is a spy skilled in disguise, nor does everyone have Oscar-worthy acting skills." Tang Zheng easily identified the American team leader, whose natural and overly confident manner contrasted the others, inadvertently exposing him. As for the soldier with the Seed Ability, Tang Zheng couldn’t recognize him. He had too few encounters with the team leader to get a read on his character, so he couldn’t guess the whereabouts of that soldier. A typical team leader would probably keep an ability user close for safety, but a dominant team leader might send him to lead the attack, while a conservative one would keep him in reserve, positioned at the back.

Perhaps due to nearing the bustling urban area, there were suddenly more pedestrians around. Tang Zheng abandoned the plan of killing them one by one. If someone died, it would certainly create chaos and lead to a shootout, which wouldn’t be good for anyone. It would be better to kidnap a soldier and leave directly.

The group had been walking for nearly ten minutes when Tang Zheng saw the bus had already stopped in the designated location.

"Don’t look around idly. Start the engine, and as soon as we get on, drive off immediately." Tang Zheng held the walkie-talkie and quietly deployed the tactics, "Once it starts, no firing allowed."

If the newbie on the bus opens fire, there will be chaos immediately, and the panicking crowd will delay everyone’s boarding. It’s okay for him to shoot because the center of the commotion would be behind them, effectively blocking the soldiers’ pursuit.

Listening to the clear responses coming from the walkie-talkie, Tang Zheng put his hands in his pockets and looked around before quickening his pace. He passed the soldiers with ease, who were only focused on their target and paid no mind to the pedestrians beside them.

Tang Zheng had already chosen his target for the kidnapping. It was the pair of soldiers nearly fifteen meters away, closest to Dong Zixuan’s group. The one on the right was about 1.9 meters tall and too burly – better to just shoot him dead.

"Group Leader, they’re about to make a move. Looks like the Chinese is smart and won’t engage in battle here; instead, he’s preparing to escape," said the man who had previously used the SVD sniper rifle. He had caught up and was chewing a piece of gum, watching Tang Zheng’s back with interest.

"Should we take action?" A brown-haired woman standing by a jewelry store by the road glanced through the glass window and saw Tang Zheng about to pass. Thirty meters away was the bus described by her teammate. She was holding a travel bag stuffed with weapons, ready to create chaos as soon as she got the order from the team leader.

"You guys just love causing trouble!" The team leader’s curled tongue carried a heavy complaint, but deep down, he was extremely pleased. Though they were newbies, each came from an exceptional background, with some even having experienced the brutal war in Chechnya, and two of the women were top special agents from the KGB.

"Are we going to strike or not?" A hoarse male voice rose in the earpiece, somewhat eager to engage.

"We’ll see. If the Americans get the upper hand, we’ll intervene and kill them. If the Chinese get the upper hand, follow the original plan. Grenade, Lipstick, try to draw them toward our previous prey and make them fight each other. David, that ability user from their side is yours to deal with," commanded the Curl-tongue Captain with composure, a clear sign of an experienced commander.

The walkie-talkie was filled with the group members’ resounding responses. This was a team from Russia, shaped by blizzards and vodka, confident and courageous. They believed they could annihilate any team.

Unaware of being targeted, Tang Zheng was completely focused on the two soldiers, rehearsing the steps to kidnap them in his mind.

Three meters, two meters – the moment he approached behind them, Tang Zheng drew the Desert Eagle handgun with a silencer from his waist and pulled the trigger on the unlucky hulking soldier. With the "puff puff" sounds, the large-caliber bullets tore through his abdomen, ripping him in two.

The soldier on the left was splattered with half of his comrade’s blood. With a swift reaction, he spotted his fallen partner and quickly reached for his gun, but before he could succeed, his entire right shoulder was hit and blown apart.

"No!" A piercing scream overflowed from the soldier’s throat. Before he could get away, his throat was grabbed, almost causing suffocation.

"Move!" As Tang Zheng shouted, he simultaneously subdued the soldier, using him as a meat shield to shoot at the soldiers behind him.

A bullet struck the chest of an unlucky soldier, blowing a hole in him. The one shot earlier hadn’t died yet; he was convulsing, spitting blood, his visceral organs spilled out on the ground.
