Chapter 1198: Chapter 71: Bloody Mutated Creature

The syringe contained a viscous, emerald-green potion, about ten milliliters, which was wholly injected into the Special Agent’s body. This caused the blood vessels on his neck to instantly swell, looking like knotted earthworms, and then rapidly spread to his face. They wriggled non-stop, utterly nauseating.

Sweat immediately covered the Special Agent’s forehead, and his entire body looked as if it had been fished out of a pond, completely drenched. The high temperature on his skin swiftly evaporated the moisture, and white mist rose from it.

Just as Tang Zheng drove the tank over the Special Agent, about to crush him into meat sauce, his right arm’s skin suddenly burst open, his muscles thickened and expanded, developing terrifying strength, and he ferociously punched the tank.

With a loud bang, the tank, moving at full speed, seemed as if it had hit a massive rock. The front was pressed down while the rear lifted up, steel deformed by the heavy punch, and it creaked eerily.

Using the recoil, the Special Agent leaped onto the tank; his injuries had already healed. However, he had lost his human appearance. A right arm strong enough to be compared to a siege hammer, and the muscles on his chest burst open, revealing a giant eyeball moving eerily and staring at Tang Zheng.

The Special Agent had been injected with a vaccine developed from a viral prototype meant to allow a dying person to instantly recover completely. But the price was steep; it shortened one’s lifespan and had a certain chance of turning them into a zombie. The Special Agent’s luck was clearly rather poor.

"What the hell is that?" Tang Zheng pressed the accelerator, reversing at full speed, trying to shake the Mutated Creature off. If there was a gunner, they could’ve hit it with a shot.

The Mutated Creature’s combat instincts were sharp. It grabbed the cannon barrel with one hand and hammered down on the armor over the driver’s cabin again with its right.

Tang Zheng was so shaken that his ears roared. The armor caved in more, and if the Mutated Creature landed a few more blows, it would squeeze him into a pulpy mess alive.

Kong Licheng and the others, seeing Tang Zheng unharmed and using the tank to kill the Tyrant with one blow, hadn’t yet begun to cheer when they saw the situation reverse and a new monster was born. While shooting, he moved out of shelter and towards the direction of the traffic police.

Uncle Wang was about to open fire, but Ding Jian held him back, worried they would draw the Mutated Creature over.

"What are you doing?" Uncle Wang shook off Ding Jian’s arm, ashamed to be in league with such a person.

"Firearms are useless, go get the AT-4!" protested Ding Jian, delaying, ready to leave if Tang Zheng couldn’t kill the Mutated Creature.

The traffic police didn’t flee; they pulled two AT-4s out of the carriage, hoisted them on their shoulders, locked the Mutated Creature in the sights, and pressed the trigger.

The rocket shells, with their orange-red tails, shot towards the Mutated Creature. This agile fellow, relying purely on its outstanding physical abilities, dodged the cannon shell with a side-step.

"Damn it!" The traffic police spat out the blood in his mouth, discarded the empty Rocket Launcher, and took up another.

Zhao Dongtao climbed onto the roof of the car, hands gripping the metal sheet, attempting to rescue Xiao Wang, trapped inside.

"I’m okay, go help Tang Zheng." Xiao Wang’s waist had been slashed, bleeding out, and enduring the severe pain, he grabbed the Vehicle-mounted Machine Gun and opened fire on the Mutated Creature.

Tang Zheng reversed, then suddenly accelerated forward. Seeing that he couldn’t shake off the Mutated Creature, he turned and slammed hard into the house on the right.

The tank crashed through the wooden two-story building and into the living room, then changed direction and plowed straight into the Wall. It smashed through six rooms before finally shaking the Mutated Creature off.

"Die!" The tank rolled over the Mutated Creature; Tang Zheng could feel a distinct jolt in the body, but he immediately stopped in place.

The Mutated Creature’s giant right hand grabbed the rear of the tank, and amidst its roars, it lifted the tank, attempting to overturn it onto the ground.

Tang Zheng, wielding an AT-4, emerged from the driver’s cabin and blasted it towards the Mutated Creature’s head.

The rocket shell instantly blew off the Mutated Creature’s head; flesh and blood flew everywhere. Yet it didn’t die; the muscle tissue at the stump moved, pushing up the eyeball from its chest to regrow a new head, and the wounds created by the tracks were visibly regenerating.

Last night’s preparations hadn’t been in vain; the tank’s interior was full of weapons. Tang Zheng quickly picked up two AT-4s and, holding one in each hand, shot at the Mutated Creature’s chest.

The Mutated Creature evolved again, its entire left arm extending to form a gigantic fan-shaped Shield. The muscles became keratinized, and new bone growths, resembling ribs, densely covered the shield.

Boom, boom—the rocket shells hit the Shield; fire and smoke splattered everywhere. Some muscle and bone were scorched and blasted off, but 80 percent of the shield remained intact.

Tang Zheng took out two more AT-4s, but the Mutated Creature didn’t give him the chance to shoot. The chest suddenly split open, and the ribs shot out like Crossbow arrows, aiming at him.

While squatting, Tang Zheng held the Rocket Launcher horizontally in front of his chest to block the bone arrows—splat—one pierced his shoulder, knocking him backwards, nearly breaking his back.

The Mutated Creature’s new head opened its mouth, roaring, its giant eyeball turned swiftly, and then it shot out its tongue, five meters long like a cunning Snake, stabbing at Tang Zheng’s head.

Enduring the pain, Tang Zheng swung the Rocket Launcher to block. The tongue wrapped around it, and he pulled it taut, firing the rocket shell. Unfortunately, it hit the Shield again, achieving nothing.

The Mutated Creature went berserk, released the tank, and leaped onto its roof with a bound, swinging its now mutated and clawed right hand towards Tang Zheng.

Hiss—sharp claws cut three deep grooves into the Armor, sending sparks flying in all directions.

Tang Zheng realized he couldn’t drive the tank away, and he scrambled towards the gunner’s seat. The turret turned, and the barrel swept across the Mutated Creature’s legs, knocking it to the ground.

Tang Zheng had no chance to shoot; the tumbling Mutated Creature grabbed the cannon barrel and twisted it.

"Big trouble!" Tang Zheng, carrying a rifle on his back and holding two AT-4s, jumped out of the turret and quickly moved away. The mutated creature attempted to pursue, but a second rocket shell fired by the traffic police exploded beside it, buying Tang Zheng some time.

The mutated creature roared, its eyeballs shifting. It did not chase after Tang Zheng. Instead, it leaped with a surge, breaking through the ceiling and jumping to the second floor.

Constantly healing its wounds and evolving toward its ultimate form had drained a lot of energy from the mutated creature. It was now very hungry and needed to replenish its food.

The mutated creature moved swiftly, racing at top speed and breaking through roofs, listening briefly before leaping onto the house opposite.

Tang Zheng fired, but the mutated creature dodged the bullets. It was like a mole, breaking through the roof and jumping down. Inside the room, Tang Zheng’s two classmates were hiding under the bed, praying non-stop, nearly screaming out loud upon seeing its rotten feet.

The creature’s eyes could detect the faint infrared radiation emitted by living beings. With a fierce swipe of its right hand, it smashed the bed. Wooden spikes pierced through the back of one classmate who, spitting blood, tried to crawl away, but it was too late. The mutated creature grabbed his head and stuffed it into its gaping mouth. Newly grown bone spurs, like two rows of sharp teeth, tore and devoured him.

The other female classmate was a bit luckier. Taking advantage of the creature feasting on her companion, she ran to the window and jumped out, regardless of it being the second floor.

"Help me!" The female classmate saw Tang Zheng and cried out loudly for help.

The mutated creature smashed through the window, like a predatory hawk, pouncing toward the woman’s back.

"Zigzag run!" Tang Zheng roared, unable to aim in time. He shouldered the AT-4 and fired at the creature.

The creature’s shield blocked the rocket shell, and it was knocked backward by the shockwave, tumbling to the ground. However, the female classmate did not escape; its tough tongue shot out, piercing her neck and dragging her back.

The female classmate spat blood and reached out to Tang Zheng, her eyes pleading with him.

Crack, the mutated creature crushed the woman’s skull and sucked out the brain pulp.

Tang Zheng was powerless. In front of the mutated creature, they were as weak as ants, even fleeing was a luxury.

"We can’t beat it, get out of here!" Dong Tao shouted, realizing that a creature that could withstand rocket shells was completely unbeatable.

The traffic police didn’t speak, but his stern face and helplessness showed his feelings. Such monsters are simply beyond human power to contend with.

"Let’s use guerrilla tactics to buy time, Tang Zheng, you go and start the airplane," Uncle Wang shouted, "If we don’t kill it, it will definitely pick us off one by one."

The mutated creature, possessing intelligence, observed its prey’s behavior while feeding. Once it replenished its energy, it would kill them all.

Tang Zheng had already thought of the helicopter, which still had a few Hellfire Missiles. But takeoff would take at least three minutes, and by his estimate, at least three people would die.

"Don’t waste time, go quickly," Uncle Wang shouted, firing at the creature, hoping to draw its attention.

Tang Zheng turned and ran, rushing into the building. He planned to exit through the back window to shake off pursuit more easily.

The mutated creature did not chase Tang Zheng. Having evolved again after feeding, its body swelled and grew in size, its limbs became more powerful, and with an angry roar, it leaped toward the traffic police.

The traffic police dodged, leaving the Hummer behind him exposed. The mutated creature charged at Xiao Wang, who was still trapped.

"Wang Zi!" Zhao Dongtao’s eyes reddened in panic, blaming himself for his comrade’s plight.

"Come on, I’ll kill you!" Xiao Wang’s arms vibrated with the recoil of the machine gun as bullets rained on the mutated creature like hail, but they were all blocked by the shield.

Boom, the mutated creature leaped onto the roof of the car, grabbed Xiao Wang’s head with its right hand, and yanked it down, even bringing with it a length of his white, bony spine.

"Attack!" Uncle Wang bellowed. His assault rifle fired ceaselessly. Besides the traffic police and Dong Tao, everyone else’s attack seemed feeble.

The mutated creature targeted Uncle Wang, treating him as the commander, naturally seeking to kill him first. Ding Jian, upon seeing the monster lunging over, was so scared that he nearly lost his bladder control and ran away, leaving Uncle Wang behind.

Uncle Wang wasn’t stupid; he also started to withdraw. But his movements were clearly not as fast as the mutated creature’s. He had just started up the stairs when the creature burst into the living room, chasing after him with a few agile bounds.

Uncle Wang’s years of experience came into play. He didn’t keep running forward but instead turned and leaped down the stairs, allowing the creature to pass by. However, its claws left a bloody trail on Uncle Wang’s shoulder, and in a breath’s time, it turned and pursued him again.

Without support, middle-aged and with declining physical ability, Uncle Wang had no chance to escape.

Zhao Dongtao saw Uncle Wang reach the door only for a tongue to pierce through his head, bursting out of his eye socket. Then the mutated creature closed the distance, its claws ripping apart his body, visceral organs and blood scattering everywhere.
