Chapter 1180: Chapter 59: Return to the Hotel
Tang Zheng gripped the control stick and pressed down on the left pedal, executing no complex aerial maneuvers, just a simple tilt that took all but two seconds to throw the cabin into complete chaos.
Upon seeing these unfamiliar people from the East, Susan didn’t dare to speak, and did everything Tang Zheng said, sprinting without sparing her strength. After entering the cabin, she hid in the back and buckled her seatbelt. Kong Licheng, unaware of her relationship with Tang Zheng and distracted by the annoying and self-proclaimed smart duo Li Zhilian and Hu Liwen, had completely forgotten about this busty foreigner.
Liu Binshi had also learned to lay low, trying not to draw attention, fearful of being assigned to dangerous missions. Thus, upon entering the cabin, he too sought refuge in the back. Although he didn’t fasten his seatbelt, the cabin wall in front of him prevented him from falling out.
Hu Liwen, who had been so loud and abrasive, was now getting a taste of her own medicine.
The helicopter tilted, and Hu Liwen suddenly saw distant buildings vanish from view as the scene before her rose. Then, her feet slipped, and she fell out of the cabin. Screaming, she instinctively reached out for the Fire God Cannon, but she was falling too fast, and her fingertips merely grazed it.
With a thud, Hu Liwen crashed onto the lawn. Although she fell from nearly eight meters, the soft soil cushioned her fall, sparing her from immediate death, but she was still grievously injured internally. Coughing up blood, she couldn’t get up.
The Tyrant that was furiously roaring at the helicopter saw a human fall and wasted no time in sprinting towards her.
"Save, save me!" Terrified at the sight of the monster-like Tyrant charging towards her, Hu Liwen’s face turned ashen as she yelled desperately at the helicopter.
"Save her!" Dong Zixuan never imagined that Tang Zheng had intended to harm Hu Liwen, after all, it was his first time flying a helicopter, how could he not make a single mistake.
Kong Licheng, too preoccupied with his colleague, had fallen to the floor due to the aerial maneuver. Had he not been quick to grab the Fire God Cannon, he would’ve met the same fate as Hu Liwen.
"I’m adjusting!" Tang Zheng pretended to be very tense and gave a perfunctory response. With his current flying skills, he could have risked a stall to save Hu Liwen, but he intentionally slowed down, his gaze passing through the bulletproof glass and settling on the figure of Hu Liwen on the lawn.
Hu Liwen wanted to run, but she was too injured to move. The Tyrant took a few steps and then suddenly leaped over a five-meter distance, landing like a warhammer onto the policewoman, crushing her legs under its massive weight.
The policewoman screamed, the pain nearly causing her to pass out.
The Tyrant bent down, grabbed the policewoman’s shoulders, and with one fierce tug, her upper body tore from her pinned-down legs. A gory mix of visceral organs and intestines fell out of the torn abdomen, piling up on the lawn.
With a roar, the Tyrant hurled Hu Liwen’s half-eaten body towards the helicopter.
With a bang, Tang Zheng was a fraction too slow to dodge and his body slammed against the side of the cabin wall, leaving behind a bloodstain, some of the blood splattering into the cabin.
"Damn you, Tang Zheng, you did this on purpose!" With a thud, the half-body of Hu Liwen, still coughing up blood, landed back on the lawn, her lifeless eyes gazing silently at the azure sky as she stopped breathing, while in the distance, the helicopter flew away.
"Be careful." The image of Tang Zheng as the good guy had paid off, and even Kong Licheng hadn’t suspected him. After climbing back into the cabin, still shaken, he cautioned, "The Tyrant is still chasing, kill it fast."
"I’ll deal with it later!" Tang Zheng flew toward a row of factory buildings where Li Zhilian was waiting, waving frantically.
"Save me, I’m here!" Seeing the helicopter approach, Li Zhilian’s face lit up with excitement, thrilled by the thought that Tang Zheng hadn’t forgotten about him. But in the next moment, his expression turned to dread as the Tyrant also rushed towards him.
"What are you trying to do?" Dong Zixuan fixed her gaze on Tang Zheng.
"Are you pleading for a murderer? Not to mention his desertion in the face of battle, just for killing Tao Ran alone, I will not let him go," said Tang Zheng, making his stance clear for the first time.
"Even if he’s guilty, he should be handed over to the court for sentencing. You can’t decide on your own," the policewoman tried to persuade him, but seeing that Tang Zheng wasn’t listening, she sighed, "Besides, one more person means more strength."
"I have no need for such trash," Tang Zheng saw through Li Zhilian, knowing that sort of person would never sacrifice for others.
"We need to kill the Tyrant!" The convict hadn’t come to his senses yet and was in a great panic, wildly waving his hands and shouting to remind Tang Zheng not to come over, his hair tousled by the swirling wind.
It wasn’t just the Tyrant; other zombies were also closing in. With only ten meters between them, Li Zhilian fired a few shots, all missing the mark. Finally, fear overcame him and he began searching for a place to hide. He ran to the iron gate of the factory building, yanked it open, and three zombies poured out, lunging at him, and without mercy bit into his face, followed by others biting down.
"Idiot, with all that noise, how could the zombies inside the factory not hear?" Watching the zombie horde overwhelm Li Zhilian, tearing him apart and feasting on his organs, Tang Zheng felt a sense of clarity.
"Are you satisfied now?" Dong Zixuan glared at Tang Zheng, detesting all criminal acts.
"Buckle up, we’re returning to base." Tang Zheng adjusted the direction and then turned on the communicator, but to no avail; there was no response except for static.
"Aren’t we going to kill that Tyrant?" Liu Binshi felt they shouldn’t let these monsters go, "It killed your classmate."
"Waste of ammo," Tang Zheng said somberly, knowing they needed the helicopter’s firepower to escape Chicago, and they couldn’t afford to squander resources on small gains.
While flying through the air, Tang Zheng finally saw the city after being ravaged by the biochemical virus, In less than ten hours, it had already become like the apocalypse, with numerous zombies roaming the streets, chasing after humans to bite and kill. Vehicles were abandoned, and the shops on the commercial street looked as if they had been looted, with shattered glass and debris scattered about.
Tang Zheng flew at full speed and, within less than three minutes, he saw the high walls stationed with soldiers, They had blocked off all the roads leading out of the city. After locating the hotel where Tao Ran and his group were hiding, he flew over but didn’t immediately land. Instead, he increased his altitude and surveyed the scale of the blockade troops.
"Over a hundred men, it seems to be a company." Tang Zheng saw eight armored Humvees equipped only with vehicle-mounted machine guns, but two M-series cavalry war chariots armed to the teeth made him feel better.
The ground troops had also noticed the helicopter, and while trying to establish communication, they arranged for soldiers to defend. Several of them took portable anti-air missiles out of the ammunition boxes.
"Even wearing gas masks, you can get infected with the virus, huh!" Tang Zheng circled for a week and flew toward the hotel. He saw the bodies of about a dozen soldiers on the ground, and the survivors seemed very anxious, with very low morale.
"Land on the rooftop?" Kong Licheng had been holding onto the Fire God Cannon, not waiting for the soldiers to launch their missiles, he could turn them into a honeycomb.
"Yeah, be ready for combat. As soon as I land, you guys establish defense, and once I’m stable, we’ll make a direct run for the ninth floor," Tang Zheng saw there were no zombies on the rooftop and began to descend.
The helicopter wobbled, and with a shudder of the fuselage, it landed on the rooftop. Dong Zixuan, who had already unbuckled her seatbelt, jumped out of the cabin immediately, gun at the ready.
"Clear!" Kong Licheng also jumped down from the other side, scanned the surroundings, and looked toward the hotel door. A few wandering zombies, attracted by the engine noise, kept banging on the wooden door, wanting to break in.
Liu Binshi jumped out, his eyes squinted shut from the wind brought on by the propeller, while Susan kept her eyes fixed on Tang Zheng, following behind him.
"We’ll have to grab a SCAR assault rifle from the soldiers later," Tang Zheng said, carrying the M4A1 as he jumped out and ran towards the iron gate. "Hurry up!"
Tap, tap, Tang Zheng fired single shots. The bullets shattered the glass and then pierced through the eye sockets of the zombies. These creatures had very low IQs and were essentially just targets.
"Liu Binshi, use the shotgun to break through the door." Tang Zheng gave the door a kick and, finding it locked, called out to the miner captain.
"Okay!" Liu Binshi responded and came forward, firing a shot at the location of the door lock.
Bang, another hole appeared in the wooden door, and Tang Zheng kicked it open, quickly entering, covering the right side, with Kong Licheng close behind, taking care of the left.
"Clear." Tang Zheng reported. His side had a wall, so he turned around.
"Three of them." Kong Licheng wasn’t afraid of these small fry, having already encountered a Tyrant. After giving a warning, he began to open fire. By the time he used six bullets to kill one, the other two had already been head-exploded by Tang Zheng.
"Let’s go!" Tang Zheng, taking the lead, continued to push forward. "Liu Binshi, hold the rear."
Kong Licheng couldn’t help but admire Tang Zheng’s skilled marksmanship. It was as if he hit whatever he aimed at, even sharper than the snipers in the army.
The five-man squad moved swiftly, minimizing noise. Tang Zheng entered the hallway and saw two zombies attracted by the gunshots.
Dong Zixuan was about to shoot them, but he stopped her.
"I’ll do it, lend me your straight knife for a moment!" Tang Zheng let go of the rifle and turned back to pull a folding knife from Kong Licheng’s tactical vest and removed a straight knife from the sheath on his thigh, moving toward the zombies.
"That’s too risky." All four people exclaimed in unison, stopping Tang Zheng with shock on their faces. Any slight mistake could lead to infection, and they didn’t have the courage to take such a risk.
"Be quiet!" Tang Zheng, holding the dagger in hand, approached the zombie. After transforming into monsters, their strength had doubled but that didn’t trouble him.
When the zombie saw Tang Zheng approach, it opened its mouth and lunged, reaching out both hands to grab at his cheeks.
Tang Zheng shifted his footing and moved to the right side. Then, stabbing fiercely with his left arm, the folding knife plunged into the zombie’s eye socket. As he applied force, the body fell backward, serving as a meat shield against another reaching arm from behind.
Tang Zheng took a big step forward, quickly getting close, and drove the straight knife into its eye socket. With a twist of his wrist, he stirred the creature’s brain into mush, and a blackish-purple flesh slurry oozed out.
"Fierce!" Liu Binshi’s mouth fell open wide, looking like a gaping hippo, as he watched Tang Zheng effortlessly handle the two zombies.
Tang Zheng retrieved the folding knife and wiped it a few times on the corpse before continuing down the stairs. The hallway was quiet; the occasional one or two zombies they encountered were also stabbed to death by him, and they finally reached the tenth floor.
"Be careful, there must be zombies blocking the ninth floor." Tang Zheng handed the folding knife back to Kong Licheng and picked up the rifle again. (To be continued.
