Chapter 1181: Chapter 60 Bitten
"Why are you so sure? Just kill them, the noise is low, besides, I’m running short on bullets." Kong Licheng had only three ammo clips left, and with his shooting skills, he wouldn’t be able to kill five zombies without using up a whole clip.
"You’re not the one engaging in melee, Tang Zheng is, of course you’re not afraid," Susan chided Kong Licheng, thinking Tang Zheng was foolish to take on all the dangerous missions himself. It seemed that these guys didn’t even appreciate it.
"Did I say I wouldn’t go?" Kong Licheng glared at the foreign woman, realizing his folding knife was too short, he walked over to the nearby firefighter cabinet, opened it, took out a firefighter axe, and then joined Tang Zheng’s side, "Let’s do this together."
Dong Zixuan and Liu Binshi curled their lips in disdain. If this guy really had guts, he wouldn’t be lagging half a step behind Tang Zheng. Don’t underestimate that one step; many people can’t take it their entire lives.
"Pfft, scared to engage in melee with a dagger?" Susan mocked Kong Licheng. Here, apart from the brave Tang Zheng, they were all fifty and a hundred steps behind.
"Are you asking for a beating?" Kong Licheng’s face darkened, and he almost slapped Susan. Out of consideration for Tang Zheng, he held back.
"Stop arguing. Given the personalities of Cao Rongxuan and Li Wenbo, they’ll definitely encourage others to flee. Currently, the high wall outside hasn’t collapsed, and there are no zombie corpses on the hotel steps or Main Street, which indicates they haven’t even successfully broken out of the hotel. Therefore, it’s highly likely they’ll return, since going back the way they came is the safest. In this situation, the zombies chasing them will inevitably be blocked on the ninth floor." Tang Zheng replaced his ammo clip, feeling that one or two Lickers would appear.
"If they broke through to the sixth floor, why not go to a room on that level? Isn’t that closer?" Susan didn’t understand.
"Have you ever been to the sixth floor? What if the corridor is full of zombies? Wouldn’t that be walking into a trap? Besides, when they rushed down, the gunshots probably drew the zombies from the floors they passed, causing them to enter the stairwell and block the escape route. At that point, their only option was to kill them and retreat to the ninth floor." Tang Zheng hadn’t expected Li Wenbo, in his attempt to screw over those who didn’t follow him, not to kill the zombies on the ninth floor first. As a result, when they ran back, they got a taste of their own medicine.
Liu Binshi gave a thumbs up, and Susan looked at him with eyes full of admiration. The Group Leader’s mind was extremely meticulous; he could infer a lot from tiny clues. He was impressive.
"With this kind of strong deduction ability, who exactly is the policeman here?" Kong Licheng, feeling defeated, tossed away the firefighter axe and picked up a rifle.
"We’re out of time, let’s continue." Dong Zixuan handed Kong Licheng a handful of bullets and picked up the Benelli M4 herself.
"Brother Kong, you use the shotgun. Aim for the Lickers first!" Tang Zheng took a deep breath, continued forward, and on entering the ninth floor, he peered around and saw four Lickers prowling on the ceiling and nearly twenty zombies separated in front of two doors, constantly hitting them.
Kong Licheng didn’t dare take Tang Zheng’s courteous "Brother Kong" too seriously.
Dong Zixuan took one look and almost threw up; there were several mangled corpses on the floor. The most distressing was a child’s corpse, which had been stripped of flesh, leaving only bones with bits of flesh attached. A zombie was holding the child’s head, licking its eye socket, trying to pry out the eyeball to eat it.
Tang Zheng frowned, just about to set up some tactics, when the policewoman, upon seeing this scene, couldn’t hold back and opened fire with her shotgun towards the zombie holding the head.
Bang, the shotgun blast hit the zombie, shattering its left chest, nearly severing its body in two, bent at a ninety-degree angle, hanging together by a sliver of flesh on the right chest.
The Lickers, hearing the gunshot, sprinted over like geckos that had spotted prey. Kong Licheng fired, but the Lickers easily dodged.
"What are you doing?" Liu Binshi reprimanded the policewoman. In the blink of an eye, the four Lickers had already covered half the distance. As they opened fire, chunks of mud and dust flew everywhere.
"Don’t retreat, fire together!" Tang Zheng roared, taking aim and shooting the second one. He didn’t bother with the first one because newbies, faced with danger, would instinctively target the closest one, and he didn’t want to waste shots.
The four shotguns fired in unison, and Kong Licheng’s AA-12 created a barrage that immediately enveloped the first one, blasting it into a honeycomb. It fell to the ground, thoroughly dead.
Tang Zheng also killed his target, but the last two rushed within five meters, clinging close to the ceiling, contracting their limbs before pouncing at the group like arrows shot from a crossbow.
"Don’t retreat!" Tang Zheng yelled, his muzzle aimed at the Licker that was on top of him, emptying bullets into its body, the impacts moving from the chest up, until three shots pierced its head.
The newbies were horrified and about to back away, but at Tang Zheng’s command, they stopped, intimidated by his authority.
"Die, die!" Kong Licheng cursed, continuously pulling the trigger. Amidst the deafening gunshots, he killed the fourth Licker.
The 5.56mm bullets had weak stopping power, and Tang Zheng kicked away the corpse of the Licker blocking him, shooting at the approaching zombies, precisely harvesting heads.
Dong Zixuan and Liu Binshi gasped for breath, shocked, and Susan’s legs went weak. She sat on the ground; at the moment the Lickers pounced, all she could smell was their blood, and she thought she was a goner.
"Dong Tao, which room are you guys in?" Tang Zheng called out, walking through the corridor littered with corpses, looking for his classmates.
