Chapter 1179: Chapter 58: Killed in Action
The second-generation tyrant appeared seventy meters to the left of the helicopter, behind a building, charging like a heavy tank on a diagonal sprint. Due to its massive weight, each step it took left a one-inch-deep pit in the lawn.
"Hu Liwen, Liu Binshi, go lure it away." Kong Licheng wanted to squeeze the last bit of value out of the policewoman and added a miner, fearing her failure. He didn’t choose Li Yumiao because he didn’t want to fall out with Tang Zheng.
"I won’t!" Hu Liwen, who was delighting in Li Zhilian’s misfortune, was stunned upon hearing this, "You guys are men; why should I do the luring? Have you no shame?"
"The one without shame is you!" Kong Licheng didn’t want to argue, "Anyway, you’re going to turn into a zombie, might as well make a sacrifice for everyone."
Liu Binshi didn’t like to talk, but that didn’t mean he was stupid. He wisely kept silent, stalling, believing that Tang Zheng would surely come up with a solution.
"You’re going to turn into a zombie! Why not send Li Yumiao? Just because he’s Tang Zheng’s classmate?" Hu Liwen lashed out, "Zixuan, you be the judge."
"I’ll go." Dong Zixuan thought Hu Liwen was too selfish but didn’t blame her.
"Don’t!" Hu Liwen grabbed her. If something happened to Dong Zixuan, the others surely wouldn’t care about her. So, she directed her complaints at Li Yumiao, "You incompetent coward, can’t you do something other than rely on your classmate?"
"Shut up, I’ll go. Worst comes to worst, we all die here." Angered, Tang Zheng suddenly changed direction and charged at the tyrant, plotting to kill these selfish people.
"No, if you go, who will pilot the helicopter?" Hu Liwen exclaimed, grabbing Tang Zheng’s backpack, only to be thrown to the ground by the force of his motion.
"I’m not a coward, Tang Zheng, I won’t let you down!" Li Yumiao, with bloodshot eyes, roared with all his strength, bursting ahead and surpassing Tang Zheng to throw himself at the tyrant, having his own pride, not wanting to just survive on others’ help.
"Yumiao!" Tang Zheng deeply despised Hu Liwen, but watching his classmate’s back, he knew that even if he tried to stop him it would be futile and only waste time. He sprinted towards the helicopter, taking off as quickly as possible and using its powerful firepower to attack the tyrant, hoping to snatch a chance for survival.
"Idiot." Seeing that her provocation worked, Hu Liwen bubbled with glee. Without needing Tang Zheng’s reminder, she sprinted full force towards the helicopter.
Tang Zheng adjusted his breathing and ran at full speed, quickly leaving the four newbies behind, even Kong Licheng, who was from the Armed Police, couldn’t catch up.
Watching Tang Zheng dash like a cheetah across the lawn and dive into the cabin, the newbies suddenly realized that if it wasn’t for them, he could have gone solo long ago.
Li Zhilian, watching the approaching tyrant, felt his legs go weak. He aimed his gun but his fingers trembled, unwilling to pull the trigger. He knew not luring the tyrant could lead to abandonment by Tang Zheng, but facing this three-meter tall killing monster, he was chilled to the bone and turned to run into a nearby building.
Li Zhilian kept glancing back at the helicopter, going through his little schemes. He had lured the monster, but if it didn’t follow, it wasn’t his fault, and he prepared to argue it out with Tang Zheng.
Dong Zixuan, with long strides, stepped into the cabin and immediately propped up the M134 Fire God Cannon, loading it, but couldn’t fire due to the wrong angle.
"That bastard, Li Zhilian." Kong Licheng also entered the cabin and had been monitoring the battlefield. Seeing Li Zhilian drop the tyrant and flee, with the monster running straight toward the helicopter, he cursed angrily.
"How much longer?" Kong Licheng didn’t want to confront the tyrant and asked Tang Zheng.
"We’re taking off soon." Hu Liwen ran into the cabin, dove into a corner, and turned to see the cockpit crammed with various instruments and buttons, densely packed enough to dazzle her, while Tang Zheng was swiftly flipping switches, clear and organized.
"At least thirty seconds." Tang Zheng had skipped many steps, didn’t check instruments like the fuel gauge, directly connected the power, and dozens of dashboard lights turned on, showing clear pointers and numbers. Then he activated the auxiliary power unit (APU) and started the engine.
The propellors began to rotate and the grass on the lawn bowed under the blast. The tyrant, not having chased Li Zhilian, dove towards the helicopter and would reach it in less than ten seconds.
"No time left." As Kong Licheng and Hu Liwen anxiously awaited takeoff, Dong Zixuan jumped out of the helicopter and rushed towards the tyrant, firing single shots from her M4A1 to draw its attention.
The second-generation tyrant, not high in IQ, was enraged by being shot at and chased after Dong Zixuan.
"Perfect!" Seeing the tyrant distracted, Hu Liwen was overjoyed, her nerves relaxing. All that was left was to take off, indifferent to Dong Zixuan’s safety, despite past help.
Dong Zixuan wasn’t afraid to die, but someone had to do the hazardous task, or they’d all just wait for death together. Moreover, from Tang Zheng’s previous actions, she believed the group leader wouldn’t let her down.
"Hurry up! Hurry up! Hurry up!" Tang Zheng muttered, gripping the control stick, sweat beads forming on his forehead, his gaze ceaselessly scanning the instruments, eager to familiarize himself with each component quickly.
Fortunately, Trojan hadn’t stripped his piloting skills. As soon as he sat down, he absorbed all the parameters of this Black Hawk Multi-Purpose Helicopter into his mind, enduring the stabbing pains, quickly becoming proficient.
Li Zhilian had fled, but Li Yumiao, determined to die if necessary, was delaying the tyrant. His speed was naturally not as fast as the tyrant’s, and coupled with the previous exertion, he couldn’t shake it off.
It took twenty seconds, but the Tyrant caught up with Li Yumiao and swung its arm down towards his head.
Li Yumiao tried his best to dodge, but the second hit struck his shoulder. He tumbled away like a baseball hit by a home run, bending a swath of lawn and scattering grass leaves.
Finally, the spirals reached the rotational speed needed for takeoff, Tang Zheng pulled the control stick back, and the helicopter slowly rose off the ground. He didn’t hover to perform engine checks and other takeoff procedures, but instead wanted to join the battle directly, because the situation had become extremely dangerous.
"Hold on!" Tang Zheng activated the weapon system, ready to strafe with the machine gun, "Licheng, go operate the winch and lower the hoist cable."
Kong Licheng, who was clutching the M134 Fire God Cannon, immediately complied.
"What should I do?" Seeing that she was safe, Hu Liwen started playing coy, volunteering for a task.
"Operate the machine gun by the right hatch." A fierce gleam shot through Tang Zheng’s eyes—he planned to abandon this selfish woman later.
Li Yumiao ultimately didn’t wait for the helicopter to arrive. The last strike had shattered his scapula and broken several ribs. He spat blood, just managing to get up and stagger a few steps before the Tyrant caught up. Its right hand swung viciously from below upwards, its sharp claws first piercing his abdomen and then, like a butcher’s knife, split open his chest cavity, slicing him into four pieces.
"Damn!" Just as Tang Zheng had adjusted the position of the helicopter’s nose, he witnessed this scene, almost grinding his teeth to shards. However, he suppressed the urge to attack and turned around, flying towards another Tyrant as Dong Zixuan was also in grave danger.
As expected of someone who had practiced Sanda and karate, Dong Zixuan’s agility and coordination were excellent, narrowly dodging the Tyrant’s attacks. But if the fight dragged on much longer, she too would collapse.
After locking the Tyrant on the radar, Tang Zheng pressed the launch button, and the M230 three-barrel machine gun spun up, bullets whistling out.
Bang, bang, bang, amid deafening gunshots, 30 mm caliber bullets, like a metal storm, shot towards the Tyrant.
Dong Zixuan heard the gunfire and mustered her last bit of strength to leap away from the Tyrant.
The bullets struck the Tyrant, penetrating its tough skin. The continuous assault pushed it backward, temporarily ensuring Dong Zixuan’s safety.
"How do I fire this?" The helicopter’s side now faced another Tyrant, but Hu Liwen didn’t know how to operate the Fire God Cannon.
"Press the middle button." Kong Licheng shouted as he started the winch, lowering the hoist cable.
Li Zhilian saw Tang Zheng successfully take off, and his several turning maneuvers were particularly graceful, immediately causing her to become excited and wave in his direction.
While Tang Zheng tilted the helicopter towards Dong Zixuan to let her reach the rope, he activated the Hellfire missile system. Once the Tyrant’s body was locked on, his thumb pressed the launch button.
Sizz, sizz, two Hellfire missiles, tails aflame, launched from their mounts, and in an instant crossed several dozen meters and struck the Tyrant.
Boom, boom, two fireballs exploded, instantly engulfing the Tyrant with a blast wave spreading in all directions, blowing the green grass flat.
The Tyrant’s charred corpse fell, its defense power being much lower as it was a first-generation model. Tang Zheng adjusted the nose of the helicopter, turning towards another one.
"Zixuan caught it!" Kong Licheng informed Tang Zheng, then grabbed the Fire God Cannon. The nearby zombies, hearing the commotion on the lawn, gathered around; a sweep of the machine gun would strike down a swath of them, thrilling him nearly to ecstasy.
"Don’t waste bullets," Tang Zheng shouted. The helicopter climbed higher while moving away from the Tyrant, the winch active, lifting Dong Zixuan without her needing to climb.
The Tyrant leaped up, at its apex swinging its hand, its claw swiping just beneath Dong Zixuan’s feet.
Tang Zheng did not hurry to attack. That move was a necessity; such maneuvering could easily result in stalling and crashing the helicopter. Since Dong Zixuan was safely aboard, he could calmly attack the Tyrant.
Climbing into the cabin and seeing the azure sky, the lawn below with the Tyrant growling up at the helicopter but helpless to reach it, Dong Zixuan suddenly felt very good. Then she looked at Tang Zheng—he really was a group leader worthy of trust!
"Did you get hurt?" Tang Zheng turned around, saw Dong Zixuan enter the cabin and buckle her seatbelt, then immediately pulled the control stick, tilting the helicopter.
As the novelty wore off, Hu Liwen began to consider safety issues, fearing falling out. Seeing Dong Zixuan grab a safety line, she reacted, feigning concern to ask if she was hurt while subtly asking her to pass over a safety line.
Dong Zixuan felt her footing tilt, and before she could stabilize herself on the cabin wall, she heard Hu Liwen’s scream and looked up just in time to see her losing her grip and falling out of the cabin.
