Chapter 1160: Chapter 39: Cannon Fodder and the Tyrant_2

"This is a misunderstanding; we were tricked into coming here. Can you take us out? We can pay, a lot of money." The corpses of zombies littering the ground bore witness to Tang Zheng’s bravery, and Susan quickly took a liking to him, hastily clarifying.

"You guys get out of here. I need to protect the virus strain. If I find out you’re lying to me, I’ll slaughter you." Tang Zheng pretended to be oblivious as he mentioned the virus strain, and sure enough, the other four people showed interest.

"We can help you, and then we’ll leave together." Andrew deceived Tang Zheng, planning to kill him after getting hold of the virus strain.

"Since you saved us, we also want to do our part." Steven didn’t doubt Tang Zheng’s identity; the white lab coat said it all. Besides, at a time like this, a native familiar with the layout was needed. To verify his identity, one just had to see if he knew the way.

"Fine, you probably don’t know your way around. You wouldn’t make it out without being killed by zombies." Tang Zheng lowered his gun muzzle, proposing, "Split into pairs, taking turns scouting. Any objections?"

"No objections," Laurie hesitated, but Steven had already agreed.

"Then we two will be a team, and those three go first; also, add an extra ten minutes to each round!" Tang Zheng called the shots and teamed up with Steven, sending the other three ahead. This was the safest option. Without Steven’s leadership, they wouldn’t be able to pull any tricks even if they were behind, and cannon fodder was needed anyway; it was too dangerous for one person to scout alone.

"Alright." Steven felt the grouping was good, and he wasn’t very concerned about the safety of the other three.

"Why aren’t we two a team?" Susan wasn’t satisfied, deliberately pushing out her full chest and looking at Tang Zheng. At times like these, strong protectors were very much sought after; everyone wanted a capable bodyguard by their side, someone who could kill more than fifty zombies alone.

"Sorry, but this is the most balanced pairing," lied Tang Zheng, urging the three to move quickly.

As the weak, they had almost no say and could only accept the situation.

With scouts paving the way, Tang Zheng’s tense nerves could relax a bit. If they encountered zombies, Andrew would give a warning.

"Your shooting is terrible, and without silencers, you’ll attract zombies. So, your job is to spot them and tell me; I’ll do the killing." Tang Zheng wasn’t one to waste kill counts—the more he killed, the more points he expected to get.

No one objected, as the three of them had no desire to fight zombies anyway, happy to be lazy. Andrew did want to practice his shooting, but seeing Tang Zheng killing zombies as if it were as easy as eating a meal, he didn’t dare to ignore his suggestion.

"Don’t rush; when we come across ones that are alone, I’ll give you the chance to train," said Tang Zheng, not out of concern for them but because he too needed breaks to rest.

The four Americans’ wariness towards Tang Zheng kept decreasing; he took on the most dangerous work and seemed to care for everyone’s safety—a real good guy.

Steven always felt something wasn’t right, but couldn’t put his finger on it, then he thought he was just being paranoid.

"Why is your marksmanship so good?" Laurie, observant and meticulous, couldn’t believe a staff member could be so strong.

"Hobby. I was part of a shooting club at Harvard University," Tang Zheng was about to explain away any age discrepancies, covering up any gaps in his story when Andrew, who had been pushing open the main entrance, froze in place.

Outside the door was the living area’s lobby, teeming with over two hundred zombies wandering about. Hearing the door, they looked over and, upon spotting the humans, immediately gave chase.

Before Andrew could pull back, two Lickers perched on the ceiling swiftly charged over. One pounced, pinning down the black man.

"Help!" Andrew fired off two shots in panic, not grazing even the fur of the Lickers as Susan and Laurie backed away in fright.

"Cannon fodder finally comes in handy." Tang Zheng ignored the first Licker, momentarily unconcerned as he caught its prey, and aimed at the second, opening fire with full firepower. Two three-shot bursts finally shattered its head, and then he turned his attention to the first.

Andrew’s neck was bitten open, his windpipe was torn, and blood soaked his clothes profusely. Steven, too, didn’t rush to his aid but instead attacked the Lickers. He understood that if they couldn’t kill these two, none would escape.

"Retreat." Having killed the Licker that was mauling Andrew, Tang Zheng commanded everyone to fall back, shooting at the approaching zombie horde about to burst out of the lobby, still within a controllable range.

Tang Zheng’s composed decisiveness contrasted sharply with Steven’s panic. The number of zombies he shot dead far surpassed that of Steven.

Watching Tang Zheng walk backward yet managing to headshot every zombie, Susan and Laurie thought themselves lucky to have encountered him. As for the unfortunate Andrew, no one cared.

Ten minutes later, the zombie horde had been wiped out, and all three people were so tired they sat down on the ground.

"Rest for a minute, then we’ll head out," Tang Zheng glanced at the time, it was a bit tight.

"Andrew’s dead, we should regroup, right?" Laurie was cunning and wanted to be in the same group as Tang Zheng.

"I want to be with Tang," Susan said boldly, standing up, walking over to Tang Zheng, and hugging his armature. Her full chest, squeezed, revealed a deep cleavage.

"Let’s draw lots," Laurie felt she was at a disadvantage but didn’t want to give up.

Steven’s face suddenly turned ugly as the team’s leadership had completely shifted into Tang Zheng’s hands and both women did not want to be in his group, which was a blow to his ego.

"Let’s balance it out. Laurie is stronger than Susan, so you’ll be with Steven," Tang Zheng said, seemingly taking care of them, but in reality, he had other plans. Compared to the cunning housewife, Susan was more fond of him, so of course, he wanted to choose someone more loyal.

"Tang, you’re so nice," Susan tiptoed and kissed him.

Steven, seeing the girl’s chest pressed against Tang Zheng’s body, was so envious he almost gnashed his teeth to pieces.

With three more decoys to attract firepower, Tang Zheng’s journey became much smoother as he gradually approached Area 6.

"Who kidnapped you?" Tang Zheng wanted to inquire about the American team leader.

"Not sure," Steven replied first, and as Susan was about to say something, he gave her a glare.

"What, do you have some unspeakable conspiracy?" Tang Zheng appeared very assertive, pressing Steven, "Since you’re not being honest, there’s no need for us to team up."

"No, it was a retired Delta Force operator," Susan hastily said, fearing Tang Zheng would leave. As for the Trojan, she kept quiet, being extra cautious.

"He was with more than a dozen combat mates, we couldn’t resist," Laurie didn’t want to create a rift with Tang Zheng, now that everything was out in the open.

"Trouble, experienced soldiers are the hardest to deal with," Tang Zheng frowned and asked some more questions.

"Judging by the way you speak, you’re not of Chinese descent, right?" Steven also began to harbor suspicions about Tang Zheng.

"I just came to America not long ago," Tang Zheng’s expression didn’t change as he calmly replied.

The four of them entered a lobby, just about to look for a way out when suddenly they heard a hiss, and the metal door across opened as a group of people rushed in frantically.

"Close the door, attack, throw hand grenades!" the lead man in sports attire yelled, turned around to halt, holding an MG42 machine gun and began firing towards the door, bullets flying, cases scattering.

Two militarized men immediately fought at the iron gate, grabbing the door handle, waiting for their rearguard to come out, then exerted all their strength to shut the iron gate while a woman rushed to the electronic lock to manipulate it.

Thump, thump, massive footsteps came, coupled with the pale faces of the group, indicating the monster’s terror.

There was just a foot left to close the iron gate when an arm, twice as thick as a thigh, reached in. Bullets hit it, leaving not even a trace.

"FUCK, what the hell is that?" Steven cursed, "What do we do?"

"Come over and help, it’s a Tyrant," the man in sports attire shouted in English, only not wanting to get attacked by them.

HIs teammates threw grenades, and a few with rifles equipped with grenade launchers bombarded the Tyrant, but it was impossible to stop it. The Tyrant burst through the iron gate with its wild body and appeared before everyone.

A man in military attire was half a beat too slow to retreat; he was caught around the waist and then smashed against the wall, flesh and blood flying. (To be continued.
