Chapter 1133: Chapter 18 Zombies Unleashed (3rd Update)

Twenty minutes ago, the Eastern European Anti-government Armed Forces, through a spy, learned that their leader had been executed in secret and immediately retaliated with a terrorist attack. A biochemical bomb in the subway exploded.

The smoke, mixed with a high dose of biochemical virus, immediately dispersed. The subway crowds were dense, and people were infected in an instant. As the subway moved, the infection began to spread throughout the city of Chicago.

Just five minutes would turn a normal human into a zombie. After inhaling the widely transmitted virus, in less than thirty seconds, their bodies would become paralyzed, dizziness would set in, followed by the virus infiltrating and infecting their cells, recombining DNA. During this process, their skin would rupture slightly, exuding blood strands, becoming dry and taut; the muscles around their eyes would contract, their eyeballs would bulge, and their pupils contract, diminishing their vision, but their hearing would greatly improve.

When they rose again, they were fully transformed into zombies, left only with a strong aggression and an instinct to feed. Their sense of fear would fade away completely, and their perception of pain would drop to the lowest level. However, the most terrifying part was their increased strength. Once they caught their prey, they would cling to death.

These zombies, emerging from the subway station exits and stretching out their arms, began jogging towards the crowds. Some citizens didn’t notice and were attacked. The zombies lunged at them, tearing at their flesh, splattering blood across their chests.

The entire Main Street’s security and traffic had fallen into chaos. The dense mixture of screams and cries for help pounded against the eardrums, causing panic in everyone’s hearts.

The newcomers suddenly took heavy breaths, staring out the window, dumbstruck. They’d never imagined they would find themselves in a city overrun by zombies one day.

"What are you dazing off for? Close the car window and try not to make noise." Tang Zheng took back his backpack, pulled open the zipper, and started to fill the magazines of two Benellis and the AA12. Then he began loading bullets into the handgun. "Tao Ran, Song Xin, come over, help me load the bullets."

Tang Zheng wanted to toughen them up and teach them some combat knowledge, to adapt to killing as soon as possible.

"Here, distribute these guns." Seeing another backpack, Li Wenbo opened it directly. This guy wasn’t stupid. He chose the AA12 shotgun with an automatic function and a 32-round drum magazine and grabbed an extra handgun.

The newcomers instantly became restless. Zombies were outside and, regardless of whether they could use them or not, getting a gun was the priority.

"Who do you think you are, showing off? We’re the ones who secured those." Zhao Dongtao complained.

"Can you use all these by yourself?" Tong Dahong picked up an M4A1, grabbed a clip, loaded it skillfully, and stared coldly at Zhao Dongtao. He was good at shooting and wasn’t afraid of people like Zhao Dongtao.

The other policemen also chimed in to secure their own interests.

"Let’s see who dares to move?" Zhao Dongtao drew his gun, aimed at them, and yelled at his classmates, "Are you dead? There are so few guns, how could there be enough for everyone?"

After all, the classmates were ordinary citizens, naturally fearful of the violent police force. They all turned their gaze to Tang Zheng.

The policemen didn’t care about that and reached for the guns. Handguns lacked firepower and obviously couldn’t kill zombies.

Bang, bang, Tang Zheng drew his Glock and fired two shots into the ceiling. Immediately, women started screaming in fright.

"Are you an idiot? Look at what your words have stirred up. What’s the point of creating such disorder at a time like this?" Tang Zheng suppressed Li Wenbo with his overwhelming presence and approached him.

"You’re the idiot. I just wanted to distribute the guns quickly." Li Wenbo stood his ground against Tang Zheng, holding a gun, he wasn’t afraid.

This guy was also tall and good-looking, winning a bit of favor from the others.

Tang Zheng didn’t waste words. Holding the handgun, he struck it hard against Li Wenbo’s head. Li Wenbo tried to block but was half a beat too slow.

Blood suddenly seeped out, drowning the corner of his eyes.

"I’ll kill you!" Li Wenbo had never been treated this way and, enraged, he moved to retaliate. It was just what Tang Zheng wanted as his knee struck Li Wenbo’s groin.

Li Wenbo doubled over on the ground, curled up like a shrimp clutching his groin.

"What are you doing?" Tong Dahong aimed his muzzle at Tang Zheng, "Stop it!"

Tang Zheng acted swiftly, knocking Tong Dahong’s handgun away and then pressing his Glock against his forehead.

"I’m warning you, I hate having guns pointed at me," Tang Zheng’s sharp gaze drilled into him, then scanned the others.

"Don’t get upset when I call you an idiot. Of course, we should distribute the guns. Otherwise, why would I bother planning to rob the gun store?" Tang Zheng first pointed out his contribution and then scolded Li Wenbo, "Without great adaptability and leadership skills, step aside. You should know that one word from you could potentially kill us all."

Tang Zheng picked up a shotgun and handed it to a policeman beside him.

"You can’t just simply hand out guns willy-nilly, not only does it waste time, but we also can’t pick out the combat personnel. What if ordinary people get hold of the guns and accidentally injure someone?" Tang Zheng walked back to the front of the carriage, picked up the L115A3, attached the ammo clip, and opened the car window, extending the gun’s muzzle out.

Tang Zheng closed his left eye and placed his right eye on the scope, he worked the bolt to chamber a round, then after locking onto a zombie, he pulled the trigger.

Bang, the survivors shifted their gaze over and saw a zombie’s head burst open. Before they could even react, Tang Zheng continued to work the bolt, the yellow brass shell hadn’t even fallen yet, and gunshots rang out again, another zombie’s head exploded.

"Tong Dahong, what are you doing just standing there? Get over here and kill the zombies approaching the school bus." After demonstrating his ability to stabilize them, Tang Zheng continued to explain, "With so many gun stores in America, are you still worried about not having guns? What we need to do now is to quickly learn how to use firearms. What’s the difference between holding a gun in your hand and a stick if you can’t use it?"

Having been scolded, the newbies finally understood what Tang Zheng meant, realizing that getting a gun didn’t mean they knew how to use it.

"Zixuan, you organize someone to give the newbies crash-course lessons on firearms." Tang Zheng fired continuously until his ammo clip was empty, hitting with every shot, and left ten headless zombie corpses on the street. "Don’t worry, there’s one for everyone."

Xiao Hu grabbed three guns, and upon hearing this, cursed under his breath.

"Listen to him, take one gun each, having more is useless," Uncle Wang spoke, his low opinion of these unskilled people unwavering. He was still firm on sticking with Tang Zheng; the kid really had some tricks up his sleeve.

Everyone had a gun now and, although they still didn’t know how to use them, they suddenly felt much safer and let out a long sigh of relief.

"Go to the car window, use the handgun to shoot zombies," Tang Zheng said. He didn’t let Tao Ran and Song Xin practice with the shotgun, implying it required no learning, whereas they would frequently need the handgun for personal protection.

The traffic was chaotic, and the school bus inevitably slowed down. Fortunately, there were still many citizens around, drawing the zombies’ attention. If not, they would have been in trouble. Nevertheless, a dozen zombies were slowly pursuing the bus.

"Tang Zheng, what do we do?" A policewoman at the back of the bus called out, already seeing Tang Zheng as the backbone of the group.

"These are targets for you to practice shooting. Look at their speed, they can’t catch us. Don’t worry," Tang Zheng reassured her and continued clearing zombies in front of the school bus.

Those killed by bites would be infected by the virus in less than a minute and shakily rise again as their zombie counterparts, blocking the car’s path.

"We can’t go on like this. Where should we escape to?" Uncle Wang was getting jittery, as those monsters looked horribly ferocious.

"Head to the suburbs," Tang Zheng wasn’t sure either since the directions from Trojan were no longer reliable, and following them could lead to a deadly trap.

It wasn’t just Tang Zheng complaining; every group leader wished they could dismantle Trojan, whose instructions were no longer necessarily correct, requiring survivors to make their own judgments. Even words like ’eradicate’ were designed to stir emotions and cloud judgement, so keeping calm was a priority.

This time, almost ninety percent of group leaders didn’t act rashly but prepared escape routes instead. Only eight, as meticulous as Tang Zheng, didn’t just seek the closest shelter. After all, finding money, food, weapons, and vehicles for a retreat was already time-consuming.

Now, seeing the zombie attack, the group leaders knew the area was not safe. They all emerged, preparing to evacuate, but chaos ensued due to inadequate preparation, with newbies starting to fall behind.

Tang Zheng wanted to head for the suburbs, but reality was cruel. The terrorists used a new type of virus this time, which spread at an extremely rapid rate. By the time the government received the news and devised countermeasures, the situation had already spiraled out of control.

By now, Chicago was partly overrun by zombies. Like unleashed monsters, they spread the virus and death further.

The road was congested and the school bus slowed down, watching the zombies slowly closing the distance, some newbies began shooting blindly.

"Will we die? Will we become zombies?" a girl cried, seeking affirmation from her companion, longing for an answer that could be a comfort to her soul.

"What are you panicking for? I’ve faced horrors worse than zombies—Aliens, Beastmen, the Blade Queen. Every monster you can think of, we’ve been through it all." Tang Zheng, while continuing to shoot, narrated calmly to reassure everyone. "This stuff is child’s play. One shot and they die too."

"Easy for you to say, you have experience. But what about us?" Li Wenbo covered his head, once again clashing with Tang Zheng, and regretted his words immediately. That question was inappropriate.

"That’s why I’m trying to share as much experience with you as I can. The first rule is to stay calm. The more panic, the quicker you die." Tang Zheng was also frustrated. Teammates like pigs were going to get killed even faster. He needed more capable hands.

The newbies then noticed that Tang Zheng’s breathing was very steady, unchanged, and he looked unfazed. Though zombies surrounded them, he seemed as relaxed as if he were on an excursion.

Dong Zixuan picked up an M4A1 and began firing single shots at the zombies outside. She didn’t want to be outdone by Tang Zheng.

"Dong Tao, Yu Mei, come here." Tang Zheng stopped shooting and started instructing his classmates. With everyone learning, it’s definitely more efficient than him killing zombies alone, but unfortunately, there was no time.

"Not good, some zombies are running fast. They’re going to catch up to the school bus!" (To be continued. If you like this work, welcome to visit Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation.)
