Chapter 1089: Chapter 54: The Twelve Waves of Demons - Part 2
"Heh." Teng Yuangxiang let out a sigh of relief upon realizing she hadn’t been chosen, and immediately took delight in the misfortune of others, particularly because it involved her least favorite Pang Meiqin—this was pure bliss for her.
"What lousy luck," Yu Manli cursed under her breath, knowing this time she could only rely on herself.
"Tsk, bring on the Sergeant and the Terminator, I’ll take them all out just the same," Pang Meiqin said as she pulled out Hell’s Song, loaded it with Purgatory Explosive Arrows, and then took out the Demon Ripper. After passing through the Demon Hospital, all restrictions on her weapons were lifted. Today was a perfect day to indulge.
"So domineering!" Dantai gave a thumbs up. The three-meter-long heavy chainsaw knife Ripper glowed a bloody red, each tooth sharp as the fangs of a wild beast, ready to choose its prey.
"Trojan, can I fight in place of my girlfriend?" Lin Fachan felt his girlfriend’s fear and boldly roared at the Trojan.
"You can, but if you want to switch out, your group leader will have to join the fight as compensation."
"Group Leader!" Lin Fachan looked at Tang Zheng, willing to do anything for his girlfriend, even if it meant asking someone for help.
"Don’t. I can manage," Lin Jing dissuaded him, equally not wanting her boyfriend to get hurt.
"Tang Zheng, don’t be rash," Teng Yuangxiang, who was firmly on Tang Zheng’s side, glared daggers at Lin Fachan. "You guys definitely won’t make it through; might as well die early and get it over with."
"Shut up," Tang Zheng frowned, then nodded. "No problem."
"Such a do-gooder," Ruan Feifei muttered, but Tang Zheng’s character reassured her. He was much better than those cold-blooded, ruthless types willing to use anyone as a meat shield.
"Ten seconds until the Punishment Squad rewards arrive. Please prepare for the counterattack."
"Let’s move outside." They were in a suburb’s villa area, peaceful and secluded, so there was no worry of the intense battle being discovered.
"Because you chose the first option, showing no teamwork at all, the difficulty of this punishment game is increased. It will now be twelve waves; as the name implies, you have to withstand twelve rounds of demon attacks."
A bronze door stained with blood appeared, decorated with a fallen skeleton pattern in flames. As it opened, hordes of demon imps rushed out, pouncing towards Tang Zheng and his team.
These imps were pitch black, with their eyes flashing green in the dark night. Standing one meter tall, they sprinted on short legs, covering fifteen meters in a blink of an eye.
Squealing, the imps threw the pitchforks they carried, raining down like a volley of arrows.
"Move!" Tang Zheng retreated swiftly while pulling out his Velociraptor Mount. He jumped on in one smooth movement and then whipped out the Terminator Machine Gun, firing a barrage at the imps.
The bullets, enhanced with spiritual energy, glowed green in the darkness, tearing through the swarm of imps and instantly mowing a swath down.
Yu Manli and Pang Meiqin also mounted their war horses, while Lin Fachan, empty-handed, remained composed, swiftly moving to evade.
"Fachan!" Lin Jing was anxious, wanting to rush into the fray alongside her boyfriend, but she was held back by Li Xinlan. "Don’t cause trouble."
The imps quickly divided into four groups, each pursuing their targets.
Pang Meiqin switched Hell’s Song to rapid-fire mode. The Purgatory Explosive Arrows lit up the imps with orange-red flames upon impact, reducing them to ashes in three seconds.
Yu Manli wasn’t under much pressure either; this ’human train tactics’ wasn’t likely to kill her. However, Lin Fachan was in trouble—about to be caught, he continued to shoot and dodge without giving up.
"Good composure," Tang Zheng, riding his Velociraptor, circled back and fired a round, knocking down the imps chasing after Lin Fachan.
In no time, the ground was covered with over five hundred corpses, their green blood pooling into puddles, filling the air with a repulsive smell.
"Can you ride?" Tang Zheng threw a war horse towards Lin Fachan, who nodded and jumped on.
Seeing her boyfriend out of immediate danger, Lin Jing breathed a sigh of relief.
"Should we blow up the teleportation gate?" Seeing more imps pouring out, Pang Meiqin shouted, seeking Tang Zheng’s opinion.
"Don’t do it," Tang Zheng worried there might be problems, anyway, the little ghosts weren’t strong.
"A thousand, the first wave is over," Dantai had been silently counting the number of small ghosts.
"No one died, the Japanese got lucky," Teng Yuanxiang shouted, the virtual screen hadn’t disappeared, showing the icons of ten people.
"If the terrain is good, we can hold out," Tang Zheng didn’t know that because the Japanese were all newbies, they only faced a hundred in their first wave, and even so, it had cost them quite a bit of energy.
After resting for twenty seconds, the second wave of teleportation began. This time it was still small ghosts, only they were faster and their skin was covered in scales, greatly increasing their defense power—it would take three times the hits to kill them.
The Warhammer team and the American team still crushed past without any pressure, but even the Japanese narrowly made it, which was quite surprising.
"It would be better if they had died earlier, it’s a waste of ammo," Ruan Feifei felt it was not worthwhile, it’s hard for newbies to get supplies.
"If they get a single seed, they’ll have made a killing," Dantai saw Tang Zheng pick up a Black Iron Seed and toss it to Lin Fachan; indeed, the man had a good character and was worth cultivating.
"Thank you," Lin Fachan already knew the purpose of the seed. Seeing Tang Zheng throw it, he was first astonished, then moved. If it weren’t for Tang Zheng’s voluntary help, he would have been dead by now.
"Attention, the third wave is coming." Black Iron was truly of little importance to Tang Zheng.
This time it was not just little ghosts, but there were also demon dogs. The number doubled in one step, constantly gushing out of the teleportation gate, swarming like a hornet’s nest that had been poked.
"Waste of ammo," Pang Meiqin put away Hell’s Song, dismounted her warhorse, and suddenly charged toward the demon dogs.
"Has this woman gone mad?" Teng Yuanxiang had just asked when she saw the Ripper spinning wildly, the thunderous roar of its motor almost ripped through the eardrums. With Pang Meiqin’s swings, the more than two-meter blade swept through the demon dogs like a storm.
With a sizzle, fresh blood sprayed as about a dozen demon dogs were beheaded, chunks of flesh and visceral tissue flew, clearing a large area instantly.
Pang Meiqin stepped forward and swung out the second blade, cutting directly into the second wave of charging demon dogs, killing another bunch.
The Demon Ripper came with a demonic-break effect, giving a bonus against these creatures.
"Is this still Pang Meiqin?" Ruan Feifei and the others were seeing Pang Meiqin unleash her fury for the first time. Watching her kill effortlessly, in less than ten seconds, she had killed over a hundred demon dogs, nearly popping their eyes out of amazement.
Teng Yuanxiang grew envious, and Ruan Feifei also felt a bit uncomfortable.
"A Japanese died," The icon of a Japanese man was marked with a red X.
"Don’t get distracted, wait for the fourth wave."
This time the difficulty suddenly increased; in addition to the previous two kinds of demons, there were now demonic flies, but the most troublesome were the huge demons with a body size like a rhinoceros, very good at ramming and armor-piercing.
Tang Zheng had not even activated his ability, slaughtering these creatures without breaking a sweat, while Pang Meiqin impressed everyone, wielding a gun in one hand and blasting away a few demons. When one got close, she dodged like a matador and then swung a horizontal cut. The Ripper sliced into the head of the demon and then chopped the body in two.
Because of inertia, the halved corpse ran far before collapsing.
The remaining Japanese also died, breached by a demon dog and torn into broken flesh, but they had managed to obtain a Black Iron Seed.
Without a break, the fifth wave came immediately. This time, in addition to a large number of foot soldier demons, humanoid ones began to appear; they had wings, carried bows and arrows, and attacked the four people with overwhelming strikes.
"Don’t use Iron Firmament, it’s not worth it," Pang Meiqin wanted Tang Zheng to save it for the end.
Tang Zheng shot out a Light Spot Arrow Rain with the First Bow, covering the demons with strikes.
"Every twenty seconds, the next wave will descend." Red Trojan Horse hadn’t expected both group leaders to participate, misjudging the situation, but he adjusted promptly. (To be continued.
