Chapter 1090 - 55: Double Punishment
Chapter 1090: Chapter 55: Double Punishment
The number of demons doubled rapidly, and even with the lesser ones, it was impossible to clear a wave within twenty seconds. Watching over five thousand demons pour out of the Teleportation Gate and fill the clearing, the skies were filled with their roaring and screeching, leaving the newbies pale with fear.
Ghosts and Demon Dogs were crowded together, and the terrifying number of them was enough to make one’s scalp tingle. The flies flying in the air darkened the sky, and as their levels increased, they could even spit green Venom arrows for long-range attacks.
Tang Zheng drew the First Bow to its limit and fired continuously, sending out a barrage of speckled arrows that cleared a large area, but the four of them were still in grave danger.
The Demon Rhinoceroses were heavy Tanks that moved with incredible speed. Except for Tang Zheng’s Velociraptor Mount, the other three’s War Horses couldn’t shake them off. Moreover, the sheer number of demons was rapidly shrinking the area they could use for hit-and-run tactics. Yu Manli thought about fleeing but was immediately warned by Trojan.
"Please note, leaving the Teleportation Gate’s five hundred meter range will be considered a mission failure, and erasure punishment will be given."
"Are they even allowing us to live?" Yu Manli roared in anger, throwing a heavy punch that turned an attacking Demon Dog into Meatloaf.
Lin Fachan had no spare time for attacks anymore, as dodging alone consumed a lot of his energy.
Pang Meiqin controlled her horse’s reins with one hand, while Hell’s Song kept firing Explosive arrows, each one piercing through several demons. A new Teleportation Gate appeared on the flank, disgorging many more demons that surrounded the Beautiful Leg Stewardess.
Pang Meiqin released the reins and took out the Demon Ripper, swinging it and colliding with the attacking demons, chopping them into Broken Flesh.
Watching Pang Meiqin, drenched in a bloodbath, cutting her way out of the demon horde, even Dantai couldn’t help but admire her. The woman’s growth was truly impressive.
Tang Zheng was quite at ease, drawing out the Gunpei marked with the characters for Wind, Forest, Fire, and Mountain. With a wave toward the demons, three thousand Kai Cavalry in red armor appeared in sight and charged forward.
The fiery red Armor made them look like a sunset cloud of fire, blindingly brilliant. The Cavalry pulled out their Bronze Cannons from their backs, and with a volley, a massive cloud of white smoke billowed from the muzzles, creating a fog. The lead bullets were like a steel Barrage, striking the charging demons and knocking over a large number at once.
The two forces closed in to fifteen meters in an instant. There was no time to load a second shot, and the Cavalry decisively dropped their Bronze Cannons, lifting their Yari, and like a furious wave, they crashed into the demon horde, stirring a bloody storm.
Horse Hoofs trampled, crushing the bodies of demons, while some Cavalry were pulled off and torn into Broken Flesh on the spot. In the blink of an eye, the Battlefield had turned into a meat grinder, the pungent stench of evil mixing with the odor of blood.
"Tang Zheng, destroy the Teleportation Gates now," Yu Manli shouted.
As the waves increased, the number and strength of demons would multiply. The tenth wave had arrived, but because there were only two Gates, it wasn’t their turn to appear. It was imaginable what kind of situation Tang Zheng and the four of them would face when those demons burst forth.
"Wait a bit longer," Tang Zheng’s Moon Blade shot out, plowing four trenches of blood among the Demon Dogs, then his six-barrel machine gun fired rapidly, clearing a path for him. The few that were lucky to avoid death but lunged at him were knocked away with a punch.
Yu Manli was dissatisfied but dared not question Tang Zheng, managing to only dodge the best she could. She had no Golden Seed and her Ability was hand-to-hand combat, so the consumption was significant, with sweat already appearing on her bridge of her nose.
"Use Human Train Tactics, don’t clash head-on. Didn’t the Kai Cavalry open up a space?" Tang Zheng shouted, reminding them. Pang Meiqin’s killing intent surged as she massacred demons with frenzied zeal. The Ripper had now turned completely red, dripping with thick Blood.
"That blonde boy is dead," Teng Yuangxiang excitedly called out. She enjoyed seeing others misfortune, "Yay, another soldier has fallen. The American team leader is not up to par."
With so many demons coming at them, Rogers and the black man naturally prioritized self-preservation, and wouldn’t waste their energy for the newbies. The last chosen soldier managed to last less than ten seconds before being torn to pieces.
The American and Japanese Teams had Virtual Screens in front of them, too. Seeing Lin Fachan’s icon as the only newcomer left—and without an X marking him—envy was beyond words. Being under a good Group Leader was truly a blessing.
"Group Leader, destroy the Teleportation Gates now, or this will never end," the black man rode his Motorcycle in circles, also engaging in hit-and-run Tactics. While these monsters wouldn’t kill him, they were just too annoying and also consumed Ammunition and Life Energy, which would negatively impact future battles.
"Just wait," Rogers was cautious, worried that destroying the Gates would cause problems.
"Wait for what?" the black man, who was more straightforward, said, focusing only on the immediate benefits, "You can’t see what that Chinese Captain is doing, can you?"
"Wait until that newbie dies, then we’ll strike," Rogers set a bottom line for himself, but two minutes later, he found that the newbie was still alive and well.
"Group Leader, I really can’t hold on. This kind of consumption is very disadvantageous for later," Yu Manli pleaded with Tang Zheng again to blow up the Gates, at this point almost wanting to kneel and lick his toes.
"Wait a minute more," Tang Zheng noticed Pang Meiqin was temporarily safe, so he hardened his heart. Since having an open and honest talk with Yu Manli in Reality, he had come to trust her. This opportunity wasn’t about using Yu Manli up or taking the chance to eliminate her to clear potential threats, but out of caution.
Yu Manli was almost worried to death, and at this moment Lin Fachan was following Tang Zheng closely, relying on his support to stay alive.
"Rogers, that Chinese Group Leader is clearly too kind-hearted. Don’t wait, let’s do it," said the black man, hopeless after seeing how resilient the newbie was.
Hearing the dissatisfaction in the black man’s voice, Rogers hesitated. The second-in-command’s opinion should always be considered, and he knew if he didn’t agree, the guy would surely act on his own.
"FU~CK, these uncultured black bastards, that’s why I hate them," Rogers silently cursed to himself, nodding his head.
The black man was overjoyed and immediately opened fire on the Teleportation Gate with his Heavy Gravity Gun, desperate because he and Rogers lacked the ability to slaughter in groups.
Five seconds later, the announcement sounded.
"The American Team has destroyed the Teleportation Gate, encountering six extra waves of demons as a so-called punishment!"
"Please be aware that attacking the Teleportation Gate is forbidden and will result in extra punishment!" added the Red Trojan Horse, "Eliminate all demons or survive an hour to clear this challenge."
"Isn’t this a total fucking trap? Wait until after we do it to tell us?" Teng Yuangxiang’s tone sounded nothing less than gleeful at their misfortune.
"Get used to it. There are some rules that you have to discover for yourself," Dantai sighed with relief, Tang Zheng’s patience had indeed been good enough.
Yu Manli was terrified and relieved in retrospect, thankful that Tang Zheng hadn’t listened to her; otherwise, they would have been in big trouble. At first, she even thought the Group Leader was seizing the chance to get rid of her.
"Damn, there’s always a trap," Tang Zheng determined the danger and didn’t wait any longer, activating Steel Sky.
The moon and stars in the sky were instantly obscured, and as the air vibrated, a five-hundred-meter square of Steel Sky appeared, its moving mechanical patterns forming a giant Orbital Cannon, while ten Kirov airships also descended abruptly.
The missiles on the racks avoided the Teleportation Gate, carrying out a carpet bombardment on the ground.
The Bullet Nest opened, and one heavy bomb after another tore through the air, plummeting down to create a sea of fire amidst the demon horde, leaving no remains behind, the bodies blown to pieces and burned to ash.
Lin Fachan stood beside Tang Zheng, feeling the blast of hot air over his cheeks, his heart racing with a mix of shock and the relief of having survived the calamity.
Yu Manli and Pang Meiqin also gathered around, no longer needing to act, just waiting for Tang Zheng’s bombardment to end it all.
The several thousand demons were practically handing sin points over to Tang Zheng, offering no resistance to the crushing power. The twelfth wave brought three bulky Abyss Demons which, unluckily, didn’t even make it to Tang Zheng before being targeted by the Kirovs and the Orbital Cannon for precision strikes.
The scorching white energy beams, like a military knife, plowed the ground, hitting an Abyss Demon squarely. It roared unwillingly, enduring for only three seconds before being vaporized, leaving behind a Golden Seed.
The ten Kirovs targeted and obliterated another, and just as the last one charged toward Tang Zheng, the Orbital Cannon descended once again.
"Every time I see it, I’m blown away. This kind of mass killing is just too sharp." Sha Ou couldn’t hide his overwhelming envy; Tang Zheng alone had combat power matching an entire legion.
"Now I’m somewhat looking forward to his sixth ability," Dantai waved his hand, "Let’s clean up the battlefield and then sleep."
The demons had unexpectedly contributed a Star Seed, a surprising bonus for Tang Zheng.
"Warhammer Team has finished their punishment time, and the American Team, being behind, will now face six more waves of demon attacks." This was the rule, which the Trojan Horse wouldn’t proactively tell the survivors.
"Miserable Americans," Sha Ou took pleasure in their misery, hugging Tang Zheng’s arm, "Come on, let’s go for late-night snacks. I’ve got to treat you to a drink."
"So powerful," sighed Kawagawa Shingo, "It was unwise of us to have meddled with the Warhammer Team."
"There are no regret pills for you to take," Asakura Sakura tossed him a Black Iron Seed, "Use it; this thing can at least - I need the combat power now."
Kawagawa Shingo didn’t refuse, knowing the proud Sakura Princess despised such low-level Seeds; she would settle for nothing less than a Golden Seed fitting her status.
The American newbies watched Rogers and the black man fighting, their pride shattered amidst their disappointment.
A homeless man’s dog had died after all; when he sought a vet, who saw him through the cat’s eye, the vet didn’t even open the door.
"Please save my dog, I have money," the homeless man clutched a handful of coins, crying sadly, even kneeling on the ground, begging the doctor.
"Get lost, come back tomorrow, the doctor isn’t in." The doctor replied with a yawn and continued his sleep, not believing a word the homeless man said. How could he have money for the dog’s treatment if he couldn’t even feed himself? What a joke — did he take him for a fool?
