In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL]
Chapter 90: Special Department

Chapter 90: Special Department

The three individuals’s uniforms were also slightly different from the common uniform of the Union members; other than pure black, it was more accurate to say it was a black camouflage military uniform instead.

The way they stood and presented themselves was more disciplined, straight, and without any flashy movements.

"Heya, long time no see... Captain Nikolai." Rise even saluted, yet it was rather crude and obviously not seriously executed. He was even leaning leisurely on the wall, not bothering to straighten his posture.

Unlike with others, who would definitely be offended or angry when they saw Rise’s disrespectful nature, the three seemed used to this and took his greeting lightly.

"You actually left the Union." Nikolai, just like his clean and more robust appearance, his voice was strong and deep—the type that would echo in a silent place.

Rise laughed at this. "Why, am I not allowed to?"

The man on Nikolai’s left scoffed. "You never take things seriously."

Rise looked at him and also sneered. "And when did you take things seriously, Alphen?"

Alphen was taken aback. "That..."

A loud laughter reverberated then. "Alphen, please. Rise’s right."

The man on Nikolai’s right finally spoke this time. Compared to the three, he had a gentle appearance and a much more refined voice.

"Still, you left without warning." He sighed and yet did not reprimand Rise as the reality, as they did not have any right to stop Rise if he wanted to leave. "But you should’ve given us a heads-up at least."

Rise’s attitude mellowed slightly, he rubbed his neck and chuckled. He was not really guilty.

"Let’s be real, Yvez. Rise won’t tell a soul about his decisions." Alphen finally calmed down, yet his mood was still bad.

Yvez forced a smile, since Alphen was right.

"Joining a guild." Nikolai’s deep voice now took over, he looked at Rise. "What’s good with Dark Crimson?"

He was genuinely curious, so this question did not piss off Rise.

Rise’s lips curled, his smile reaching his eyes. "Everything."

Of course, Kamille was allocated to that everything with few things about his former party.

With this smile, not only Nikolai, but even Yvez and Alphen appeared so surprised seeing this smile. They even exchanged glances, shock written in their expressions.

Since they had known Rise, they always saw him with his playful smile and mocking tone, which were already part of his personality. This was their first time seeing that smile, a smile that truly seemed genuine and a lot more.

A thought flashed in Alphen’s mind and blurted out, "Wait, are you in love?"

Nikolai and Yvez turned to him, and then at Rise, who did not deny, and instead his eyes shone further. The answer was clear for all to see. He was indeed in love.

And it seemed saying he was in love was still an underestimate of the truth.

"No way!" Alphen exclaimed and moved closer, "Really? Are you really in love? "

Nikolai could only shake his head, their conversation suddenly took a turn. However, neither of the two stopped Alphen from asking Rise since they were also curious.

Rise laughed and teased, "Guess?"

Instantly, Alphen’s expression soured. "Who is this unlucky person?"

"You jealous?" Rise teased.

Alphen almost choked on his saliva with this question. "Damn! Please, don’t disgust me, okay?"

Rise laughed harder. Yet he did not reveal who it was.

Nikolai finally shifted back their conversation, which was ruined by Alphen. "You joined the guild because you’re in love?"

If he could, he was already smoking. Rise was also one they also considered part of their party, although Rise did not consider himself one.

Rise was a unique existence in the Union; he did not have a formal and fixed party, but for the time he was in the Union, he still had his semi-party, one he always joined.

"Never thought love would make you whipped enough to join a guild." Alphen held contempt in his tone.

"Alphen..." Yvez scolded.

"What?" Alphen became defensive.

Rise squinted his eyes at him, making Alphen zipped his mouth. He did not get made though. Instead, he readily admitted.

With a soft and affectionate tone, Rise answered. "Yes, and so what?"

Right, so what?

This time, they fell silent again. The three were only disappointed, but they really were not mad at Rise. After all, his leaving did not really compromise them.

"Whatever, just let it be," Nikolai finally ended with that. They could neither ask for the real reason nor any details, so instead of falling into a stalemate, they might as well reunite in a lighter tone.

"Will you enter the gate?" Rise asked, which was also a way to change the topic and the atmosphere.

Nikolai nodded, and so did the two.

"Any details to spill?" Rise probed them, any more information was welcome.

Alphen gave him a side eye. "Nah, you’re not a Union member, so you’re an outsider."

"Really, stingy?" Rise clicked his tongue. "Just a tiny bit is enough."

"Tell us who you’re in love with, then we’ll tell you," Alphen cunningly remarked.

"Wow," He turned to Nikolai and Yvez. "Captain, are you sure Alphen isn’t replaced or something?"

This made the two laugh. "Maybe?"

"Hey, what are you talking about?"

"It means you’ve gone smart, and that’s... concerning."

Alphen was in great disbelief, especially as Nikolai and Yvez laughed.

He was once again defeated by Rise’s tongue.

After a while of silence. Rise’s expression became serious.

"They are sending you so; this gate must be so dangerous."

Rise was not part of the first batch that entered the gate. Also, while this gate was where he first met Kamille, that was already a year later, when the federation had explored and navigated the other world.

They also already have allies on the other side, making it easier for the Espers to explore it. This time it was different, they were only going to make contact on the other side for the first time.

The Union was part of the government, and so they were also considered the Esper department of the military. This did not mean every Esper in Union was part of the army.

There was still another department inside, which was called the Special Department. This was truly where the elites of the Union gathered.

They were the standard and militarized aspect of the Esper Union.

And Nikolai, Alphen, and Yvez were part of it. Nikolai being one of the captains of a party equivalent to an elite squad.

Being elites, they could rival any official party of the top guilds except the Guild Leaders. That being the case, the government sent them only any dangerous missions.

Which was also one of the reasons Rise always joined them.
