Chapter 89: Gathering (5)

Kamille did not say anything in response, which made Rise’s heart sink slightly. Of course, if both fight, he would be on Kamille’s side. However, if it could be prevented, he did not want to see them too opposed to each other.

Perhaps, just the same situation as in the past would be enough, as long as they did not fight for real.

After staring at him for a while, Kamille finally replied, his gaze inexplicably deep, and something unreadable was within.

"Do you really think he..." Kamille frowned but still continued, "he thought of you as his little brother?"

This was a question almost out of the blue but at the same time still related to their topic. Rise did not even think too much and answered almost as soon as he was asked.

"Of course; if not, then what?" Rise’s impression of Mitchell and their relationship seemed fixed, not accommodating other thoughts.

Kamille’s gaze seemed a little odd, but then he nodded, rather unwilling to provide his own insights. Being with Rise, Kamille found himself being introduced to some thoughts that otherwise would not have emerged before.

It was as if Kamille was only recognizing himself once again. This change, whether they were good or not, Kamille did not mind one bit.

"Maybe it is." Kamille’s answer confused Rise, but he could only nod as well.

Whatever they would discuss, they had to set it aside for now. Kamille’s attention was also diverted and no longer thinking about Thalia, as compared to her... Mitchell seemed to be a bigger threat.

Oblivious to all these thoughts, Rise followed Kamille into the venue.

He could only sigh and blame the situation for not taking advantage of Kamille’s jealousy. No matter, he would have a lot of chances in the future as long as Thalia was there.

The venue of the gathering had to be huge, as all of the registered guilds had participated. This was an important part of the year, and no one wanted to miss it, as already discussed before.

Once they entered the venue, Kamille and Rise’s figure quickly became the center of the crowd; everyone’s gaze seemed to become attracted to them.

Kamille’s appearance, needless to say, was sought after and extremely popular among the crowd. Beside him, everyone could only stare; thoughts were conflicted.

After all, it was Rise Lee, someone whose deeds were known far and wide. Want to admire him? Do you dare?

The two quickly arrived at the location of the other members. As the top guilds, they were in front. The venue only had tables and without any chairs in sight.

The Espers also would not eat anyway; at least that was generally the case. Still, this greatly disappointed Rise, who would never miss the food if it were available.

The gathering, to say the least, was boring.

This was only a time for everyone to socialize, as each zone was far apart, and all year round the Espers had to focus on clearing and challenging gates.

For people like Rise who did not care about such stuff, it was indeed pretty boring. Especially when Kamille was not beside him. Shortly after they entered the venue, the Leader and Vice Leaders of the guilds were called, just as Kamille said.

So, leaving inside the venue were the members. There were not only Espers inside but also the Guide of the association. They were also rather popular since Espers tend to be more gentle and attracted to guides.

Rise was left with the three cubs, who were silent, seemingly afraid of him. Contrary to the silence at their table, the whole venue was only starting to get lively.

The three appeared envious, or at least it looked like that when they started watching everyone interact with each other.

"You can also join." Rise finally could not take it and spoke with them. He also did not want to just stand here like a lost cub, and he had places he needed to go.

The three simultaneously turned to him, making Rise chuckle.

"Walk around a bit, we’re also a top guild, and you’re part of Dark Crimson." Rise sternly spoke. "Might as well act like one and experience it."

He stared at the three, his lips hooked up and pointed at the center. "Asserting authority... The three of you should start doing that. Look at the other top guild members."

The top guild members, who were also part of their respective Guild Leader’s parties, were now roaming around. They did not stay at their table, but they also did not actively converse with the other guilds. However, it was enough for everyone to seek them out and earn their connection.

This was a boring gathering and did not have much practical use for the top guilds like them, but it also served the purpose. To cement their authority and name among the smaller and medium guilds. This was a world where power was more important than anything else.

"Remember who you are now."

His voice became low, but the emphasis on his words only became clearer as he stared at the three.

"You’re part of Dark Crimson, even more so... You’re in Guild Leader’s party." Rise’s firm voice was like a loud thunderclap that shook the three.

Their pupils shrank slightly, trembling.

This was a reminder. Even if they were timid, even if they were uncomfortable inside, they had to look dignified on the outside. Their appearance alone was enough for all these small and medium-sized guilds to look up to.

Even though it was a pretense, that was how the world of the strong works.

"Come on," Rise smiled sweetly, yet his gaze carried an unfathomable air that made the three unable to breathe. "Chill out and walk around."

This was a command, and neither of the three could refute. Strictly speaking, Rise had no right to command them as all of them were equals. However, in terms of standing and experience, it seemed reasonable enough for the three to obey him.

And not like they could argue with him.

Just like that, Rise was finally alone.

What he said was the truth, more or less. The main reason though was that he wanted to get rid of them. He did not have time to babysit inexperienced Espers.

"Now..." Rise smiled and rubbed his neck, stretching it. "I’ll wait for you to come."

Since he entered this room, he already sensed their gazes. The timing was just right... He was rather bored.

Standing at the blind spot, away from the center of the venue, Rise waited.

Not long after, three Espers with black uniforms approached him. In this venue, only one group did not arrive with formal suits or dresses as if taking pride in their uniforms.

Esper Union members.
