Chapter 74: Not Alone
Chapter 74: Not Alone
So boring...
Rise did not have any assignments, and he was told to rest. Kamille was off to do some work, and he did not want to bother him. It might not look like it, but he still had a sense of propriety and knew where to place himself.
Of course, there was no way Rise would really rest obediently. He would not cause trouble, though.
"Riri, behave here. I’ll be off to do some business." Rise put on a simple shirt and a hoodie, with black casual pants.
"Where... Are you going?" Riri cautiously asked. He remained timid, but Rise sensed he was getting comfortable now and knew how to ask questions.
Rise smiled meaningfully.
"I’m going to cause a fire. Do you want to come?"
Riri flinched, he curled up once more and shook his little head.
"I... I will behave here." His ability was limited with two eyes, but he still sensed the danger despite Rise’s casual and gentle tone.
Rise laughed heartily, expecting this reaction. He messed up Riri’s hair playfully and left.
Riri now had an assigned nanny and a room on his own, but he wanted to stay with Rise, and so before he left, Rise called for that nanny and let her in the room.
"Too bad, Eubin is now assigned to guard Riri." Rise sighed, disappointed. He loved playing hide and seek with Eubin, which was something he enjoyed in the past.
Eubin really dodged the bullet there.
Riri’s identity was not only sensitive but also his ability was important, and so Kamille had decided to shift Eubin’s assignment to him.
As for monitoring Rise, Kamille had already deemed it not necessary. When Rise said he would continue to be suspicious in the future, Kamille was already aware that it was no use even if he continued his surveillance.
Let it be.
So... About the fire, where should I start to ignite it? Rise smiled and set his plans.
Rise returned to the small underground base of his information network organization.
Needless to say, when he arrived, everyone was so flustered, and fear spread in an instant. It was as though the devil had arrived to finally collect the offerings.
"Next week, I’m going to the capital." Rise started, resting his back comfortably on the seat. Dino was in front of him and two others. "But don’t mistake it. The plan will continue to be set in motion."
Dino nodded, not interrupting. The air was extremely tense, making them stiff. A stark contrast to Rise’s casual demeanor.
"Any progress?" Rise raised a brow; his gaze fell to Dino, who immediately sweated on the spot.
Dino cleared his throat, calming his nervous heart.
Rise had given sets of instructions. They were incomprehensible and almost unbelievable. If not for their fear of Rise, they might think he was making fun of them.
The mystery around Rise only increased, giving them a slight sense of awe over their biggest trauma.
"Master..." Dino trailed off, he exhaled, and the middle-aged continued. "We already planted the black seeds at the gate you told us."
One, when Rise contacted them via the mirror, Rise had already told them a special gate where the seed of betrayal would grow. This was also a gate that was not recorded.
Rise was not a responsible Union member; thus, his spoils or gates he discovered were not correctly reported. One, he already claimed them as his own. Two, and most importantly, he did not bother to report.
Some of the gates would not emit mana and thus would remain unrecorded, some of the lucky individuals would stumble on these, giving an opportunity or their doom.
"I mean the important ones." Rise waved his hand off.
These were just side quests, useful and necessary but not part of the grand scheme of things.
Feeling scolded, Dino trembled, the same with the other two.
Gulping the fear, Dino continued and began his report.
Rise listened attentively, his face serious and devoid of any of his usual playfulness. He always paid attention to the main plan.
The information network’s purpose was for Rise to be updated on any changes and, more so, to confirm some things. Another important purpose, finding important individuals that were part of the plot.
Of course, Rise would not slide the advantage of his future knowledge, whether about the plot or in general itself.
Rise frowned.
Dino and the other two’s chests tightened, gripped with fear seeing that frown.
"Too inefficient." Rise criticized, earning heavy gasps from the three individuals.
As expected, the information network was too small and thus inefficient. He planned to encompass the whole federation and possibly extend even further than that.
Rise looked up and eased the tension.
"I’m still reasonable." Rise crossed his arms. "The organization is small, and so the result isn’t satisfactory."
Again, his smile returned.
"That’s hardly a problem, though. If we’re small... then, we just need to expand, right?"
Rise stared straight through Dino’s eyes and swept the other two.
"Ignite the fire." He paused, the menacing glint blinded the three, and more so... evoked a certain ambition inside of them.
The fire was not only to harm others but... It gave them a future to look forward to.
"I don’t need a small organization."
They seemed to hear in their hearts. Their position will not just be a small member but even bigger than that.
Rise smiled when he saw the ambitions sprout to the three.
That’s right. I need ambitious individuals. Only then... Everyone will efficiently do their work for their own benefit.
This was the reason he did not need puppets. He did not need overly loyal individuals, either. Rise wanted chaos, even in his own organization.
He wanted them to have their own thoughts, to compete, to have desires and ambitions.
To have a future, Rise would resort to anything.
Rise gave the three the time to daydream for a minute, processing his words. He then put another document on the table, which Dino took.
"There are the lists." Rise revealed, letting the three read the lists with wide and astonished eyes. "The list for individuals to recruit. And the other... Well, you know already, they are the must-kill individuals."
Rise’s expression changed slightly at his last words.
He wanted to test. How... This world would react when, Epsilon’s future connections were to be killed?
Rise was truly looking forward to it.
He was merely an insignificant villain, a stepping stone for the protagonist, but this time, it wouldn’t be easy. He would make sure that this time he would not fall into the depths of hell alone.
