Chapter 68: Riri
Chapter 68: Riri
They managed to sneak out the little monster somehow. The two did not use the B-rank gate where they entered but exited in a different route of a gate connected to it.
Their excuse was valid as well.
"We have no choice."
That was right. Kamille had called and told the Union staff these words, and the other could not say anything more after that.
After all, in such a chaotic gate, some Espers could really not find their way back and had no choice but to find the exit in the current gate instead.
The B-rank gate adventure concluded like that, with the two gaining an addition when they left. Clearing the gate was also not necessary and not in line with their goal.
The two, or it could be considered now as three, found themselves in another location, and it was a wilderness at that.
The little monster had woken up at some point; Kamille also put it down as he turned to scout and find out where they were, leaving Rise with the little monster.
Rise crouched in front of the little monster as though looking at a kid, which was not that different from what he was doing.
"Do you have a name?" Rise could not possibly call him little monster all the time, right? It was quite inconvenient.
The little monster pursed its lips and timidly shook its head.
"I don’t have one." In his mind, there was only his purpose and nothing else. He did not have a sense of kin or self. The little monster seemed to only exist and die soon after.
A meaningless existence.
Rise thought for a moment then exclaimed, "Then, let’s call you... Kamri?"
Rise laughed at his own absurd ideas; it sounded nonsense and cringy, but so what? He clapped at himself and enjoyed the confusion in the little monster’s face.
"Or Riri, as a nickname?" He grinned, brushing the little monster’s hair fondly. It was as though he found another form of amusement or something.
The little monster, or Kamri, or Riri from now on, frowned slightly and repeated.
"Kamri? Riri?" It repeated, not quite used to it and also indifferent.
The concept of names was still nonexistent to it before, and suddenly it had a name.
"One more thing." Rise looked at Riri’s face, which was not much different from humans’ but with four distinct eyes. It was not as hideous, but it was still not normal. "Can you hide your two other eyes?"
If not, they need to find an artifact to change one’s appearance.
Unexpectedly, Riri nodded. "I can... but my abilities will weaken." Its voice was low and still timid.
"No matter. You can’t use your overpowered ability yet anyway, so, there’s no need to glimpse one’s fate more than necessary."
Under Rise’s gaze, Riri’s eyes shrank, and the two seemed to integrate with each other, becoming one, then it began to rearrange similar to humans.
In a matter of a few seconds, Riri’s appearance was so human-like, it did not have a flaw. Inf act... It also looked so cute.
Wait.
"Are you a boy or a girl?"
Again, Riri shook its head. "I don’t know."
Riri also did not have the concept of gender.
Once again, Rise decided for it.
"Then, you’ll be a boy!"
There was no reason for it other than Riri really does look like a boy more than a girl, and that as he would be with them, it would be more convenient than a little girl.
Riri blinked its... his eyes innocently and slowly nodded, agreeing immediately. "Uhn, okay."
Rise could not resist and pinched Riri’s chubby cheeks. Seriously, he looked so cute. There was indifference in his face, but at the same time, the innocence that was present in his gaze made him cuter.
For some reason, his temperament was also similar to Kamille’s.
"Let’s dress you up." Rise’s excited voice rang, his mischievous nature showing up.
Riri would not even be able to escape Rise’s grasp!
When Kamille returned, he paused slightly, his gaze shifting to the two. Rise, with a huge grin on his face and the ’kid’ that was in his arms.
The ’kid’ looked like a handsome and pampered young master.
"Look, Guild Leader. Isn’t Riri’s cute?" Rise showed the kid as if it were a masterpiece, excited for praise.
Kamille stared speechless. To be fair, this ’kid’ was really cute, and someone would not be able to connect it to the four-eyed little monster.
He was somewhat thin, but his white and fair skin only gave off a sickly vibe; paired with his indifference, not unlike a normal child, which could be attributed to his impressive upbringing.
The little monster, Riri, only met Kamille’s eyes for a second before lowering his gaze again, and hugging Rise’s neck. Clearly, he was afraid of Kamille.
"Riri?" Kamille’s lips twitched slightly.
"Yes! His full name is Kamri, but Riri will do as a nickname. Isn’t it fitting?" Rise appeared to be fond of Riri or the idea of the name, probably.
Kamri? Kamille somehow understood how Rise came up with the name of the kid. He also did not reject the idea of treating Riri as a kid. His identity as a monster was quite troublesome, and if they could hide it, the better.
Also, Riri’s ability was special and might be coveted if it was known.
Sighing, Kamille went closer. He could tell, Rise enjoyed this so much.
"We’re closer to the Blue Guild," Kamille informed, offering and gesturing with his arm. Rise also understood and gave him Riri, who did not have any opinion as always, and let Kamille take him.
Rise brushed Riri’s hair once more, looking more shy in Kamille’s arms.
"Are we going there or call the headquarters?" He finally shifted his gaze and looked into Kamille’s eyes, who shook his head.
"We can stay for the night in the city and go back on our own." Kamille did not want to inconvenience the guild.
"It’s a plan then,"
Rise naturally held Kamille’s right arm, and soon the three took off to the nearest yellow zone.
While in the air, Riri’s gaze lit up slightly, no longer as indifferent, awed by the scenery. While it did not look amazing from the human perspective as there were ruins everywhere, it could not be said for Riri, who was only confined in such a small world, that was a gate.
Rise and Kamille exchanged glances, and their pace slowed down considerably.
