In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL] -
Chapter 67: Annoying Item
Chapter 67: Annoying Item
Rise found this item really annoying, and it seemed tailor-made specifically against him. It was also mostly compatible with Epsilon, something he did not want to see being offered with the silver platter once more.
"Since you can’t see my fate. Perhaps, we can try a different approach. Let’s forget about the future. Are you able to see what I came here for?"
After traversing through the gates, Rise realized that the item might not really appear in front of him no matter what he did. It was like he was gambling, letting his nonexistent luck play its part.
He was no Epsilon, the protagonist.
Waiting unrealistically would not do, in a few days, they would leave this gate. Rise could not possibly stay in this gate for months, hoping for the item to show itself finally.
It seemed that Kamille’s luck as the male lead was triggered, and they stumbled upon this little prophet monster.
The four eyes blinked; the monster paused and shifted to Kamille, its eyes shivered and then lowered its gaze.
"It’s... not for you."
Rise froze slightly then suddenly burst into laughter, the kind with excitement. He stared at the little monster, far more intense than the previous times.
This little monster was a real one, having to know what he came here for.
His eyes sparkled. "So? As I said, everything’s not set in stone."
The monster, while reluctant, did not disobey after looking at Kamille with a frightened expression.
Two gates overlapped, miraculously creating a path. The chaotic space suddenly became stagnant, time seemed to have stopped. In this space, everything and anything fell into such a state of calm.
"I can’t believe there’s such a place." Rise sighed, his emotions quite conflicted.
If he just aimlessly wandered through gates, Rise would not be able to find this.
"This is also the first time I’ve seen one," Kamille revealed surprised for the first time in a while.
"If it’s not for it, we’ll not be able to see this." Rise’s gaze naturally landed on the little monster, sleeping in Kamille’s arms.
Rise now realized that the little monster was indeed just like a kid.
Kamille also glanced at the little monster. Other than its four eyes, it did not have much difference from a normal child. Its height was similar to an average five-year-old kid. Although, this did not change that it was still a monster.
"Divining this place took a toll on it." Rise subconsciously reached out and touched the little monster’s forehead. It was hot; it seemed it was also having a fever.
"It will not be able to use the same ability for about a year."
"Really? Well, it made sense for this to have limitations." Rise nodded in acceptance.
The little monster’s ability to not only glimpse at fate but actually accurately pinpoint a certain location was such an overpowered ability. If it did not have limitations, then they could just ask a lot more to it, then.
Rise’s plans would also go more smoothly, if ever.
The two fell silent and stared at the little monster for a while. Rise also did not feel repulsed by it, one of the few monsters Rise could tolerate. And the same for Kamille as well.
Not long after, both halted, and a kind of rejection surged inside Rise. His gaze became sharp, focusing on one item floating in midair.
In the shape of a ring, the item floated calmly. It did not have any overwhelming aura or a kind of magical presence. It looks too ordinary, even.
However, Rise could not help but bite his lips, recalling the memories.
Rise took a step forward; the rejection increased. He ignored this feeling as he took a few more steps and another until he was already before it, enough to reach out and take it in his hand.
The annoying item. This ring made him suffer defeat again and again. While it was not entirely because of this, this ring still contributed greatly.
Field Disruption.
This ring had that cheat of an ability, countering his forcefield.
See how this fucking sucks and seemed especially created by the author just to deal with him.
Rise’s forcefield ability was enough to be called an S-rank ability, no one could come close to him unless he allowed it to do so. Only those long-ranged abilities had a chance to attack him, depending on how fast it was.
Epsilon, being gifted the rare ability of telekinesis, could attack Rise using projectiles. However, that was the limitation of it, as Rise was also his weakness, just as Epsilon was to him.
Projectiles, in a sense, were still objects that would be interfered with by the forcefield, making it harder to manipulate the objects inside it.
This ring just fits the criteria, to increase that chance. Epsilon was like a free bird, no disruptions would be able to pin him down with it.
Especially not Rise.
Of course, there were limitations, such as limited range and energy stored, but that was not important to Rise. He hated this fucking ring so much.
"I hate this ring." Rise muttered out loud, not afraid for Kamille to hear. His hand snatched at the ring, ignoring the way he wanted to just destroy it.
The ring did not really nullify his ability; it only disrupted it for a few seconds, but it still left him with a bad taste in his mouth. To think an item out there had his complete weakness pissed him off.
This was not an item that was compatible with him; just by touching it, he could feel his ability would be weakened when he released it.
"I came here for it." Rise lifted his head, locking gaze with Kamille. "Guild Leader, aren’t you curious?"
Will you ask why I knew? Will you doubt me even more? But, I don’t want to conceal anything.
Rise could work behind Kamille’s back, hoard these items, and plan for his future. However, that was not what he wanted. He would be more suspicious that way.
Operating in front of Kamille suited him more.
"I’m always curious," Kamille casually answered, approaching Rise as he held the little monster in his arm. "And you’ve always been suspicious."
He said these words with calmness, without any hint of accusation at all.
Rise could not help but laugh. His heart settled down. Having this ring did not mean everything was fine or that he had a huge chance against Epsilon in the future.
The author could just create another if something arises.
The thought that he seemed steps ahead, that he managed to snatch something that should be for Epsilon...
Huu. I feel refreshed.
Rise felt like laughing more with such an immature mindset, but he really was so refreshed and delighted.
"Guild Leader," Rise called, his head leaning on Kamille’s shoulder, closing his eyes. "I’ll be more suspicious in the future."
There was a pause, Kamille not saying anything, and so Rise.
After a while, Rise murmured. "Please tolerate me more."
These were such sincere and hopeful words.
Kamille’s gaze lowered slightly, glancing at Rise’s face.
In the end, he still did not say anything. For some reason, though, the silence was his sincere answer.
