In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL] -
Chapter 66: Destiny
Chapter 66: Destiny
Rise and Kamille, clearly taken aback, could not help but focus.
Monsters beyond the gates could communicate, such as higher-level monsters and more specifically the nobles. Both could understand each other even if they did not use the same language.
However, the same could not be said for the lower-ranked monsters, who only had violence engraved on their minds. Some might say incoherent words just like the monsters around them, but they could not understand them, so communication was impossible.
There was also deep-seated enmity between humanity and the monsters, and reconciliation was not part of the equation.
Looking at this little monster, it did not seem to be a higher-level one.
"Why do you want to die?" Kamille’s deep voice rang, asking the question instead of Rise, continuing the conversation.
Rise remained crouching, his eyes fixed curiously on the little monster.
It embraced itself, clearly afraid, but somehow it also appeared calm, as though prepared to really die.
"That’s my destiny," it said, appearing cryptic just like a prophet would.
This made Rise laugh—not that he found it too ridiculous, but that was he absolutely hated that word, after all. To hear the same word from a monster, he just found it really funny and crazy.
He propped his chin on his arm, chuckling.
"What do you even know about destiny?"
The monster, embracing its knees tightly, fell silent for a few seconds as though Rise’s words hit something into it. Just as Rise was about to make fun of it again, four eyes became fixated on him.
"I can’t see your destiny." The monster suddenly spoke, and the smile across Rise’s lips faded. It went on as it stared at Rise, "Someone stole it."
These words made Rise’s heart skip even further. Someone stole it? The author? His mind spun, but then he found the situation more absurd. Seriously, why was he trusting the words of a monster?
Rise laughed it off, ignoring the anxiety deep inside of him.
"If you can see destinies, why don’t you look at my Guild Leader as well?" He only thought of it as a joke, but the monster took it seriously; its gaze then shifted to Kamille, who was watching everything with a serious expression.
Unlike Rise, he could see more.
[The Sightless One]
[The Current Mother of Oculus]
Moreover, Kamille could feel it, the moment those four eyes became focused on him. He knew they were not ordinary.
Rise’s heart tightened, seeing that Kamille was not saying anything. It seemed this monster was a real deal.
The monster suddenly paused and averted its gaze, almost huddling more on the corner as if scared. Moisture also appeared at the corners of its eyes.
"What is it?" Rise asked on behalf of Kamille. Could it be it saw something? Something related to the book? What?
He was anxious, even more when the monster said his fate was stolen, which was possibly by the author.
Rather than to call it stealing, it was more like the author just retrieved the fate they bestowed.
Kamille was also curious about what it saw for it to react like that.
The monster fidgeted and looked up with a frightened expression.
"Flames. There were black flames everywhere. Your destiny... was shrouded by black fog, it made me unable to peek on it." The monster finally responded after a moment of anxiety. "You..." It blinked and slowly met Kamille’s gaze once more.
"I only glimpse one thing."
"What is it?" Rise just could not take this suspense.
Its four eyes glimmered as it uttered ominous words.
"You... are lost."
Lost? Kamille and Rise made eye contact at this moment. What did it mean?
About earlier, the black flames made sense, and as a higher-level ability that even a noble feared, it was understandable that the monster would not be able to see through Kamille’s fate under its protection.
However, about Kamille being lost... Rise could not think of any relations about any of it all.
"Lost." Kamille repeated the monster’s word, pondering about its meaning. He stared at the monsters, who might have retreated more in fear if not already huddled in the corner.
"Guild Leader, can we take it?" Rise suddenly interrupted both parties’ thoughts and came up with a more ridicolous idea. "It might be useful."
Getting spoils inside the gate, even monsters or beasts, was not illegal. It was only that the government still had to know the danger and its existence.
Even the government also takes monster spoils, even intelligent ones, for experiments. The Guilds were also allowed to have their own laboratory and research.
Before Kamille could answer, the monster spoke as it shook its head, "I’m destined to die."
Its voice was as steady as ever; it did not have the same fear or hesitation of their impending deaths.
"I can’t come with you," it added.
It was as though if it could, it would come.
"You did not have a choice, though?"Rise, titled his head, a sly smile on his lips. He stood up and looked down at the monster. "Destiny?" He laughed, a mocking one.
Rise turned and looked at Kamille as he continued, "We can change our destiny. I don’t believe everything is set in stone unless it already happened."
He was supposed to say this to the monster as a continuation of his words, but it appeared he was saying it more to Kamille and to himself.
He really hated that word.
"Guild Leader, what do you think?"
Kamille paused, as if entranced once more by Rise’s appearance or maybe by his speech, or both.
"Hmm." He nodded, not even giving the chance for the monster to say its opinion. "We’ll take it."
As long as Rise liked it, they could take everything.
"But..." The monster sensed something was wrong but was interrupted again.
Rise with a huge grin on his lips, glanced at it once more.
"If your destiny is to die, is there any difference whether you die here or outside?" Rise left the monster speechless somehow because he made sense. "But before you do, we can still use you."
Rise’s words were devoid of any sympathy.
He then leaned forward and asked, "Ah, I remember. Can you also find something?"
The monster, not finished processing his words, was taken aback. "Something?"
Rise nodded, grinning widely.
"An annoying item."
