Chapter 29: Guild Member

Chapter 29: Guild Member

Rise joining the guild was but a simple matter for Kamille, as he said. Now that he was no longer affiliated with the Union, it was easier to join another guild.

Of course, even though Rise seemed to be the type to not care about salaries, benefits, or whatnot, Kamille would not take advantage of him either.

Handing him the contract, Kamille watched as Rise just looked over it once and readily signed it. To the point, it was Kamille who felt the need to stop him.

"Are you not reading it?" Speechless, Kamille almost wants to snatch the contract and read it himself for Rise, who obviously was not concerned about its content.

Bewildered, Rise looked up, his hand that was about to sign was stopped in midair. "I already read it?"

"You can read it more deeply," he suggested.

Kamille was not an unscrupulous employer, but still, signing a contract was never a simple matter. Especially as an Esper where they were easily exploited by Guilds.

Realizing what he meant, Rise chuckled and shrugged casually.

"It’s fine. I trust you, Guild Leader," he reassured, which somehow was not convincing when he spoke too nonchalantly about it. It was almost blind trust, which confused Kamille.

Almost facepalming, but don’t know what to say, Kamille sighed. "Then just sign it."

In any case, he did not tamper with that contract, which had a higher offer than most new members, even veteran members. Rise was not only an Esper but would also become his Personal Guide so the treatment was just right.

The benefits were also not stingy either.

Rise nodded giddily and signed happily under Kamille’s astounded gaze. If he were to be asked, he really did not give much thought to these contracts. Even if Rise wanted to be exploited, Kamille would certainly not do that.

After signing his signature to all the necessary fields, Rise was officially a Dark Crimson Guild member, again. The thought of being under the same roof as Kamille made the grin plastered on his lips widen through his eyes.

"Here, Guild Leader." Putting down the contract, he raised his head and met Kamille’s gaze. "Now, I can really call you Guild Leader."

Deep inside, Rise was really emotional. In the past, in the months leading to his death, Rise had lost the qualifications to call Kamille his Guild Leader.

Rise was kicked out of the Guild because of the fact he colluded with the monsters beyond the gate. Although, it wasn’t really him, in essence, it was still him.

He already forgot; uh no, he did not even see Kamille’s face when he left the Guild. He did not want to see the disappointment on his face, or the despise even a bit.

Similarly, he was unable to see Kamille’s face when he died. He had the illusion of hearing his voice, but he had yet to confirm it.

Those were in the past though, and he was just happy that he was back again.

Kamille noticed a slight emotion that crossed Rise’s face as he called him Guild Leader. It was always these little emotions that made him intrigued and confused at the same time.

"You always called him that." He could only point this out.

Rise laughed, "It’s still different."

How was it different? Kamille wanted to ask but ultimately resisted.

Kamille leaned and took the contract, flipping it a bit before closing the contract folder. Shifting his gaze back to Rise, he formally presented his hand.

"Welcome to my Guild, Rise Lee." This is his standard way of doing things, sealing the formality as a Guild Leader.

Rise Lee stiffened slightly, his gaze landed on Kamille’s offered hand and then slowly shifted back to his face.

A memory flashed in his mind, somehow overlapping the current scene.

Kamille had said it before as well, the timing and environment were different but as the same. Rise blinked, and the memory vanished, all he could see was Kamille.

Rise smiled slightly and finally accepted the hand; the warmth spread from his hand through his heart, calming him instead.

"Thank you, Guild Leader." His tamed voice somehow surprised, but Kamille subconsciously lifted the corner of his lips as he nodded, acknowledging.

Although, Rise was reluctant to let go, he had to. Looking at the withdrawing hand in an unwilling gaze, he could only straighten in his seat.

Seriously, Kamille’s hand was so warm and just enough to almost envelop his.

Having the main agenda finished, Kamille leisurely played with the folder, feeling curious.

"Can I ask you something?"

Rise, looking at those hands, slowly averted his gaze and looked at Kamille again.

"What is it, Guild Leader? You can ask me anything!"

In front of Kamille, he was always a tamed and docile cat, unlike a fierce and rebellious tiger the world knew him.

Kamille was still not used to his enthusiasm, but he was beginning to try to do so. From now on, Rise would always be with him, so doing this was necessary.

Ignoring the twinkle of Rise’s eyes, he inquired: "How did you manage to leave?"

It said, he was expelled, and Kamille saw some pictures of a ruin ceiling and wall of the headquarters. Obviously, it was Rise’s doing. However, was that enough to actually expel him?

Rise had always been an unruly and troublemaker, but Union never kicked him out, always taking responsibility for his actions. It seemed their tolerance for Rise had gone beyond just treating their powerful Esper right but treating him as their son.

"Oh, this?" Rise did not think Kamille would ask this, and he suddenly laughed, recalling what happened.

A mischievous smile hooked his lips—something that made Kamille’s interest rise even more.

Usually, Rise would raise the suspense after seeing the audience was very interested, causing some to be infuriated. However, since it was Kamille, he always had preferential treatment for him.

So, he did not beat around the bush and told him the truth.

"You know, Guild Leader. It’s not always how the public sees it. The Union really covered it up for me, and that’s only because it’s their responsibility, isn’t it?"

Rise was rational, and knew his value the most.

"I’m a powerful Esper, yes. But what is another benefit of having me? Right, I’m hardworking, and I don’t complain too much! Most of all, I love thrills by seeking the hardest mission, and I always get the job done!"

As he said, he knew his value, and was thus confident about this. For him and the Union, both were in a win-win situation. In fact, his contract with the Union did not even have a stricter binding than most people would.

"Then why did they let you go?" Kamille was convinced, but the question returned, why did they let Rise go?

A knowing smile stretched Rise’s lips.

"Why wouldn’t they? They had no choice but to do so." Rise laughed, and thought of the shock and sour face of the Director.

Kamille questioned with his gaze.

"Another thing, why did they help me cover up?" Rise shrugged and leaned, almost whispering with a smile on his lips. "I know a lot, like a lot."

Rise laughed. As a troublemaker, of course, making trouble outside was not enough; doing it inside the headquarters and the higher-ups was equally exciting, if not more.
