Chapter 25: Troublemaker Rise

Of course, hitting a civilian was a criminal offense. Too bad, he encountered Rise. Someone who never cared about the rules.

This also proved that the reporter was new or that he barely interacted with Rise before and had not known this. Some who were familiar stepped back a little more, seeing Rise’s dark gaze.

Rise did not care about the opinion of others, but that did include Kamille. In front of Kamille, he always instinctively wants to look good; being humiliated in front of him was out of the question!

A sweet smile appeared on his lips as he stepped forward slightly. He faced the reporters; his demeanor seemed gentle, someone unlikely to cross the lines.

The unfamiliar reporters, while knowing the rumors and yet having to confirm anything up close, became confident enough seeing Rise like this. However, those aware and having witnessed Rise in person before, cautiously took their distance.

The clamoring media suddenly went silent, even the surrounding members. Knowing Rise’s tempers from the rumors, it would not be less than his actual temper.

"You’re asking if I made another what you called it... disaster?" Rise’s tone sounded melodious, his eyes carried amusement.

For some reason, despite his sweet smile, a dangerous omen seemed to quickly spread in the area.

The one in front, a middle-aged man, gulped but nodded, trying not to show a hint of fear. What could an official Esper do? They were all civilians here—even more part of the media!

Why should he be scared? They were in broad daylight and a lot of his colleagues were around! Even how much of an unruly of an Esper Rise was, he would not be able to do anything to him!

"R-Right! Yes!" The middle-aged exclaimed, somehow sounding in a righteous manner. Gaining an act of unknown courage, probably also driven by pressure exuded from Rise, he directly asks the question he had on Kamille to Rise.

"Did you make any trouble inside the gate like you always did?" His manner of speech was not respectful, more like interrogating. He then mocked as he answered his own questions, "Of course, you did. Am I right?"

Unbeknownst to him, most of the reporters around him are already dispersed, afraid to be implicated at all! Cold sweat also damped most of their backs.

Should they call him brave or foolish? No matter what, this idiot better not implicate them! These thoughts cross their minds.

The man himself did not notice it yet, only marveling at his heroic air.

Rise’s smile remained on his lips, sweet as it always has been. A glint flickered on his eyes as he faced the man, slightly looking down at him.

"Did I create a disaster?" Rise tilted his head, smiling. "I don’t think so. At least, I did not cause any trouble inside the gate. However..." he paused, the smile slowly fading off his lips, and squinted, looking at the man as if he were a fool.

His indifferent gaze filled with disdain. He hated reporters like this man the most. An ungrateful fool who only knew how to be brave using his ’civilian’ status against him.

Soon a sense of foreboding seeped inside the middle-aged man, but it was too late.

"The same can’t be said outside the gate, for example... now." Rise chuckled, sounding mischievous. "After all, like you all said... I love trouble the most."

As Rise said that, a heavy atmosphere suddenly went down. The reporters, not only the man felt the pressure on their shoulders; some with weaker constitutions groaned and almost collapsed.

Of course, most of the pressure was concentrated on the man. He’s bound to have a special treatment from Rise today!

Rise stepped forward once more, and the pressure then increased.

"Ugh..."

"Hurts... ahhh..."

Groans resounded; the middle-aged man’s face went pale. He stared at Rise in shock and fear.

"Y-You! You are attacking a civilian! An Esper is attacking a civilian!" The man shouted in fear, hoping to get help from the garrison guards around.

Rise rolled his eyes and waved his hand casually. Screams of terror alongside the sounds of breaking lenses resounded. The cameras were immediately destroyed; bits and pieces fell or flew in the air.

"Cough... you-ughh an esper..." The middle-aged man, almost suffocating from the pressure of the force field, even if it was the weakest force Rise could muster, was already significant for ordinary people.

It was like something was pressing down on them, making it hard to breathe, much less move.

Rise looked down at the reporters and glanced at the side, noticing some of the army moved but they seemed hesitant to intervene. He smiled at them, earning scared gasps.

He shifted to the reporters again and looked directly at the eyes of the man, whispering.

"Do I look like I care? A civillian’s status—is that a privileged?"

Rise did his job as an Esper, saving people he did not know, and giving safety to an ungrateful bunch like these reporters. And now... Did they want to restrain him with their status?

He was about to say something again, but a calm voice stopped him. Of course, Rise immediately went from a ferocious tiger to a gentle kitten in an instant.

"That’s enough." Kamille swept his eyes around, seeing the media were distraught and would not be able to continue interviewing him. He decided it was time to end this and went on to more important business.

Rise stepped back, obediently taking the position at Kamille’s side. The members closed their jaws and pretended not to see anything, making themselves invisible as much as possible.

"If there’s no more questions, we’ll now leave." Kamille seemed to also not care about the reporter’s well-being. If he was, why would he not stop Rise earlier?

Kamille’s impression of reporters was not good either, he only conducted interviews for the sake of it.

No one answered him, no one had the mind to stop them or ask any questions after that.

Having settled that, Kamille just nodded to the garrison forces there and left the area alongside his members, not giving a second glance to the reporters.

Rise followed with a complete realaxed mind. For sure, after the reporters recovered, another dark article was about to be published about him.

However, as he said, did he care?

He had no shortage of such articles, and if they would report about Rise’s behavior to the Union, it was not his part to get a headache but the Union.

Rise being a troublemaker, it seemed everyone was used to it.
