Chapter 24: Subjugated

Since the accumulated mana toxins inside Kamille were only being suppressed by himself and the Guides, the guiding session took almost an hour.

It could take longer than that, but fortunately, their compatibility was high enough, and Rise’s wavelength himself was also considerable.

Despite all that, the exhaustion still seeped into Rise, making him tired and weak. He did not fight it, this was because he would always feel safe with Kamille.

His scent and warmth... Rise thought he could stay in his arms forever.

Of course, forever was unrealistic at this moment, but a few hours wouldn’t be impossible. Perhaps, Kamille also aware of his exhaustion, did not budge and let Rise sleep on his arms.

For the questions in his mind, it had to wait. At least, after everything was settled here.

"Guild Leader!"

"What happened here, Guild Leader?"

"The... the Viscount?"

A lot of questions poured down on Kamille after the members woke up after another. Kamille also returned to his composed expression and demeanor; there were not any traces of injuries or battles on his body, though.

This only makes the members and the Guides all the more curious. They could still remember the terrifying aura that came from the crystal coffin, as if a devil was about to wake up.

However, as they looked at their surroundings... While some chaotic traces of battle were seen, it was not as tragic as they imagined.

As if... What they experienced was a mere illusion.

Kamille’s disposition was rather calm, too relaxed even. He felt so light and fresh, as though all the suppressed illnesses of his body had been healed. In a way, it was true.

And so, he answered the questions patiently. Moreover, that was also the purpose of these guys, in the first place.

On the other hand, Rise, who also witnessed everything and had even slept in his Guild Leader’s chest, was both in a good mood and frustrated.

He hated that the members had to wake up so quickly!

Rise stood at the side, watching all the fuss of the members. His energy had also returned, and those unaware would not even suspect of his exhaustion to the point of fainting.

One of his advantages against other guides was his quick recovery. Making even more compatible with Kamille’s tenacity as an Esper.

"The Viscount is so weak?" Hayes pondered what Kamille said and looked at the crystal coffin, a conjecture was already formulating in his mind.

The same was true for the others and specifically for the Guides.

Since they had not witnessed the battle themselves, and also thinking about the bizarre situation of the dungeon actually being empty despite housing a noble, and a Viscount at that.

It was obviously abnormal. Coupled with the crystal coffin, one thing was concluded in an instant. The Viscount was somehow injured and recuperating in this place; being weak, Kamille quickly subdued them without any difficulty.

Rise’s eyes flickered, feeling amused by the flock of sheep suddenly imagining the battle between a lion and an injured tiger. Of course, calling the ice woman a tiger was already a respect; otherwise, Rise would call her a mere rabbit.

His eyes specifically swept through the Guides. While they were part of the team, they were temporary members, and the people sent by the government.

Guilds and the government were not enemies, but not allies either. In terms of benefits, they could only be called collaborators with fragile partnerships and delicate relationships.

The former wanted equal autonomy and the latter wanted to return to the central and dominant position, controlling the Guilds for their disposal.

It was common knowledge for Guilds that the Guides’ affiliation was with the government, and they could be used as government spies to know what happened inside the gate.

And so, Kamille was actually guarding against them the most than his actual members, although the fewer that knew his ability the better.

The same with Rise; despite a lot of things they had to clear up, both seemed to be riding the same chariot now. And Rise loved that to happen.

And just like that, the gate was subjugated. There would still be an official process, but the actual combat was finished. This somehow ended in such an anticlimactic way, but everyone was just relieved that it was already the end.

The events after that seemed to align with what actually happened in the past, with slight differences. Instead of two days, they only cleared the gate within a day. And that was already clearing most of the wolves that suddenly became brave enough to go out, seemingly sensing the Viscount aura disappeared.

They didn’t need to completely wipe them out, and that was impossible in a short time as well. Their mission to stop the gate from evolving to S-rank was completed, and that was enough.

The measurement of the mana inside the gate continued to decrease until it stabilized to C-rank. A huge surprise, considering it was an A-rank Gate before. Potentially making a red zone disappear, is another success for this mission.

Was it the same as what he knew? Rise pondered, then shrugged.

Forget it. It doesn’t matter. I’m here to rewrite everything, so it’s a win.

When they exited the gate, they were greeted by the army, which was garrisoned there, and the media, which suddenly clamored after seeing them.

This was unexpected since these media and the garrison thought they would stay inside for a week at most, that was if it was subjugated.

"Mr. Kamille, what happened inside?"

"Is it a success or a failure, Guild Leader?"

"Guild Leader..."

A lot of questions were asked at once, if not for the army guarding in front in time, they already charged at Kamille without any fear.

Rise frowned, displeased by these media. He always had a low regard for these people who acted like vultures, waiting to tear up anyone’s reputation.

He was also a media favorite when it came to scandals, and so his impressions of them were rock bottom. He, an Esper, fought the beasts and cleared gates for them to live safely, and yet all he had on the news were his scandals.

Not that he cared too much, but he was just pissed because of these ungrateful bitches.

Unlike him, Kamille always answered them patiently; his tone was neither arrogant nor gentle.

While Rise stood beside Kamille, it was inevitable that someone would notice of him. He was famous, after all. The walking calamity of the Union.

"Mr. Kamille Han, what do you think of Rise Lee’s performance inside the gate? Did he make any trouble inside?"

"Did Rise Lee make another disaster?"

Rise’s eyes quickly glanced darkly at those reporters, making them step back but not enough to truly back down. For them, Rise could not do anything to them!

He was an official Esper, and hurting innocent civilians was a criminal offense!
