Chapter 155: Similar

Gathering a huge crowd...

"It’ll be proven once more," Rise muttered, watching the commotion outside. His eyes did not hold any sort of sympathy but only mockery.

Huge crowds in a green zone were acceptable, but in a yellow zone? It only made the monsters’ attention gather in one direction. And one such common sense that the people outside failed to remember.

"Huge concentration of human presence attracts gate the most."

Punish Rise Lee!

Espers should protect humans!

Out Rise!

Human Equality! Espers Don’t Rule The World.

Such signs could be seen all throughout the crowd, with some of them not having any relation to what happened itself yesterday. They were only there to vent their inferiority and the so-called unfair treatment of ordinary people compared to Espers.

It could be noticed though that while media drones were recording around, their presence was low and not a lot attented in person. Their trauma to the name Rise even somehow surpassed those of Espers.

"There’s so many people."

"I heard some of them also came from different zones?"

"Huh? How did they get here so fast?"

"Probably someone sponsored a bunch of people."

Rise’s enemies and those who hated him were enormous; he might not even know who they were. However, they were just waiting there for the opportunity.

For them, this was that opportunity. Rise was not a Union member anymore, and so the union would not shield him anymore. As for Kamille Han, no one would think the Guild Leader would risk his reputation for just one Rise Lee.

As time passed, the crowd only increased. It was like the time had returned to when festivals were a thing.

The noise also became so unbearable that some Espers’ were so irritated.

"Can’t we do something?"

"Without orders, all of you stay inside!" A commanding voice, one of the captains voiced out.

And that was what made it strange; they had not heard any instructions from the Guild Leader yet. So, they had no choice but to stay put.

Some gate raids had to be delayed; otherwise, the people outside might just mobbed them.

Few hours passed, almost the late afternoon, and things only got worse.

"They seemed persistent to see him." Someone noticed, looking outside.

Some agreed, watching the spectacle. They had nothing to do, so they could only spectate.

"Hey, do you think... Something is odd in the air?" An uncertain voice reached everyone’s ears.

"Odd?"

"Something in the air?"

The Espers, bored out of their minds, could only think of any entertainment. So, all of the Espers around that floor also try to sense the atmosphere.

It was faint, but most espers were so sensitive to this energy that a wisp of mana could catch their attention.

Suddenly, it went silent. The chatter stopped as gradually, serious expressions appeared on their faces.

"Fuck! A gate will appear!" Someone exclaimed, voicing out what was on their minds.

They immediately stood up, alert.

"Just how far things will escalate?" One wondered in disbelief.

If Rise were here, he would answer him...

"Worst than what you can imagine."

At Kamille’s office, the three also noticed the changes in the air, which unfortunately could not be sensed yet by ordinary people.

"Guild Leader, what should we do?" Hayes asked in a somber tone.

This was in their territory; what was more, this was happening in front of their building.

Kamille clasped his hands together, eyes fixated on Rise.

A few seconds passed as he glanced at Hayes with a pair of apathetic eyes.

"None."

His order was like a death sentence, giving Hayes a chill. He lowered his head and sighed.

Meanwhile, Rise just continues to stare outside. He also felt the changes in the air, mana forming and concentrating in one direction.

The scene reminded him of one event.

The crowd of angry protesters and the forming gate. Where his gaze landed, the scene just kept flashing in his head. They were the same but also different.

Was it really happening? Rise had to observe for a longer time to decide whether he would be convinced that the same scenario was about to happen.

No, he already had a hunch since earlier. It was only becoming real.

The scene...

Rise’s jaw tightened, his shoulders tensed. Recalling that memory, he could not help but grit his teeth, emotions becoming a mess.

Everything was almost the same, but one missing person... Epsilon.

His temple throbbed, aching from anger and also jealousy. Rise’s nails almost sank on the flesh of his arm, tightly crossing his arms.

"What are you thinking?"

A voice reached out to him, pulling him out of his thoughts. Rise’s nails relaxed, and so did his arms. He turned and looked up at the person behind him.

Kamille was already standing behind him, and he did not even notice.

The other observed his expression, landing on Rise’a arm, which now had nail marks. Kamille’s brows immediately creased when he saw that, reaching out and removing Rise’s crossed arms, holding them.

Rise did not react but let him, touching the marks as though soothing them.

"What are you thinking?" Kamille repeated, tone firm and almost scolding him.

"You." Rise answered, then gave a bitter smile. "And someone."

Rise blinked and looked up, not wanting to leave Kamille out of his sight. He moved closer, snaking his arms around the other.

"Someone?" Kamille frowned harder, looking at him in the eye, waiting for the answer.

Instead of answering, Rise’s jaw clenched even further, also frowning.

"Are you curious?" His brow rose, asking in a tone that was almost angry.

Okay, he was not angry at Kamille, but... The thought of that person with Kamille made him feel all sorts of emotions.

He was madly scared.

"Did I do something?" Instead of answering, Kamille then asked. As though he knew there had to be a reason why Rise was suddenly throwing a tantrum.

Rise did not answer immediately; he only stared at Kamille. After a while, he buried his face in Kamille’s chest, closing his eyes, feeling unsettled.

Why? Why was this scene coming at this time?

Wait, was this even the plot or not? But...

Rise bit his lips, his mind racing in different directions.

The scene of which he personally witnessed and also read.

Maybe, this was just the same scene? And I’m just overreacting?

Rise’s mind had suddenly shortcircuited; scenes of the past flashed by him, combining with the scenes he saw in the book. His hand tightly clenched through Kamille’s clothes, wrinkling them.

As Rise was having a hard time processing what to do, being shaken by his memory, Kamille had already lowered his gaze and looked at what was happening outside.

The protesters, who bravely screamed for Rise’s name and wanted him to come out, were now screaming for a different reason. Not far from the entrance of the headquarters, mana fluctuations appeared; a gate was forming!

The gate should be a common thing for the citizens of the yellow zone, but something seemed to be different with this gate.

The people were now escaping, wanting to get away as the forming gate atempted to swallow the citizens!

"Hayes,"

"Yes, Guild Leader."

Kamille shifted his gaze and looked at Rise, whose face was still buried in his chest, not intending to move. A crease appeared between his brows again.

"Mobilize the guild." Kamille could not turn a blind eye. This was in front of their headquarters. "Let them prioritize their safety."

"Yes?" Hayes could not help but wanting to clarify; Kamille’s tone was also unusual.

When Kamille turned to him, Hayes almost went stiff as he forced himself not to turn around and flee.

"Humans... must learn a lesson," Kamille stated expressionlessly.

Hayes eyes shook as he quickly lowered his gaze, knees trembling. Did he just saw... the Guild Leader’s eyes flickered with red?

He could not even focus on the fact that Kamille spoke of humans so indifferently as though... They were merely insignificant. If he did, Hayes escape instincts would truly go off, escaping for his life.

Rise also did not hear all of it; his mind was now drowning in the memories.

Fine, he had brazed himself to the changes and that adapting was necessary. However, he had yet to truly embrace the memories and moments, specifically those of Kamille with Espsilon.

This particular scene, or the similar scene in his memory, gave the biggest impression on him.

Rise hated Epsilon’s guts even before he found out he was a villain. As early as Epsilon entered the team, Rise’s impression of this Esper was that of a goody-two shoes or white rose filled with thorns.

The majority of them, at first, Rise admitted was because of his jealousy.

He had been pursuing Kamille’s back for years, and suddenly, a rival had appeared. It seemed petty, but for someone chasing the person they thought would be theirs with time, it was a big blow when a newcomer appeared who only took a few months to warm up the person they had been chasing for years.

Rise was like that. Epsilon was such an obstacle, someone he could not destroy because he was part of the party.

So, it came to the scene in his memory, the crowd of protesters had gathered not because of him then but for the Union. A huge gate had also appeared. It so happened that the party had rested in that city after clearing a gate nearby.

A gate in a yellow zone? That was common and so should not be a matter of concern, right? Wrong, This gate was strange; it seemed to be swallwoing the citizens around, and through that, its rank quickly rose up!

As a matter of course, their party also arrived at the scene.

"Guild Leader... I..." Rise was about to come forward but was stopped by a firm command.

"No. You stay here."

Kamille’s tone deeply hurt Rise, who was already pissed off because Epsilon was also getting in his way for some reason.

"But,"

"It’s an order. Stay here and rest."

Rise bit his lips then, reluctant. Then, Epsilon volunteered.

And... Kamille?

He looked at Epsilon, paused, then, after thinking about it, nodded.

Obviously, Rise had to raise his discontent.

"Why? Why him and not me?" Rise exclaimed, just pissed off with everything and so fucking envious and jealous.

He should be the closest one with Kamille; he had been for so many years.

Kamille pupils shook, somehow stunned by Rise’s outburst, and were about to say something, hand almost reaching out to Rise, but before he could, he and Epsilon were also swept into the gate, leaving Rise watching his backs, unable to move.

The gate, as though its mission was complete, stopped swallowing citizens and calmed down.

Rise remembered wanting to enter, but as if full, the gate fell into a semi-closed state; no one could enter.
