In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL] -
Chapter 154: Unbothered
Chapter 154: Unbothered
The first thing that came to Rise’s mind when he noticed Kamille’s expression was...
Did he say something wrong? He repeated what he said in his mind, but he could not see anything off with it.
"Guild Leader," and so he repeated once more, clarifying. "I take full responsibility for what I did and..."
Rise had to pause as he felt how Kamille’s arm around him tighten, his expression growing darker.
Wait, something was really off... but what?
Was it wrong to take full responsibility? After all, everything was all his doing, and he did not want to involve Kamille and the guild in it.
For him, this matter was trivial too—nothing to be really concerned about.
Rise chose to shut up, assessing Kamille’s expression while also thinking of what was really wrong with his statement.
Just as he did so, Kamille glanced at Hayes, standing awkwardly to the side, gripping the tablet in his hand.
"You may go." Kamille’s voice was like a salvation. Hayes’s expression brightened before he cleared his throat and nodded.
He did not leave immediately but waited for a few more instructions that Kamille might give. However, he only got a deep gaze, which immediately made him want to leave right away!
His presence was no longer needed. Okay!
Rise watched Hayes as he left with huge strides, as though his ass was on fire. "Guild Leader, why did you dismiss him? We’re in the middle of discussion."
About countermeasures, Hayes was somehow an expert on that.
"He’s not needed."
At his tone, Rise was taken aback slightly, turning toward Kamille again.
"Guild Leader, did I say something wrong?" Rise’s brow knitted, becoming confused.
He could not understand why his Guild Leader looked angry for some reason. Just earlier, they were teasing each other, and suddenly, he became cold.
Rise stared into Kamille’s eyes, wanting to know at least the slightest clue of what he was thinking.
With his question, Kamille’s mood seemed to get worse.
Rise was starting to get concerned. Okay, Kamille’s mood swings were always real.
A faint smile appeared on Kamille’s lips, but the intensity of his gaze had not softened. Instead, there was a hint of distance on it, making Rise’s heart sank.
No... His heart pounded immediately seeing that.
"Guild leader... Tell me, please?" A rising panic crawled into him, touching Kamille’s cheeks softly, as if coaxing. "I wouldn’t know if you don’t tell me what’s wrong."
"Uhh," Rise bit his lips and thought. "Was it because of me taking responsibility? Or, because I caused trouble?"
Rise could not think clearly, thoughts becoming a mess and jumbled at that thought of the relationship progress he had with Kamille returning to square one.
Kamille’s eyes blink, seemingly stunned, not expecting Rise’s panic reaction. His expression relaxed slightly, which went unnoticed as Rise was more focused on thinking about what was wrong this time.
What did he need to do to fix things?
"Do you really not know?" Kamille finally spoke, giving Rise a momentary relief. However, his heart was still tense.
He shook his head. "I don’t."
Kamille, looking at him, seeing how clueless he was, just sighed and pulled Rise closer against his chest.
"Everything related to you, I can’t ignore," Kamille spoke softly, brushing Rise’s back, soothing his anxious heart. "I won’t ignore them."
Kamille looked Rise in the eye, wanting for him to understand some things.
"Don’t exclude me... Always think of me as your accomplice." His words sounded like a plea.
Rise had never heard Rise speak in such a tone, somehow making his heart race for a different reason this time.
Kamille reached out as he was now the one who touched Rise’s cheek in an affectionate gesture, making Rise lean on it, closing his eyes for a moment, savoring it.
He then opened his eyes and immediately met Kamille’s amber pupils, which became tainted with crimson shade as days passed. He stared at them the same way they stared at him.
He finally understood. Oh, so he was that stupid... huh?
Kamille’s expression eased, giving a small smile before he whispered, making Rise chuckle, turning to wild laughter, his head dropping on Kamille’s shoulder.
"I’m your sidekick... remember that."
Seriously, the male lead being reduced to a villain’s sidekick was truly hilarious. Now, that was truly a development that the author would never have anticipated.
As his laughter gradually ceases, Rise tightly hugs Kamille, not giving distance from each other.
"I’ll remember that," Rise mumbled, both for Kamille and himself.
He felt Kamille also engulf him in an embrace as the two fell into silence, hugging each other.
Rise closed his eyes firmly and succumbed to this warmth, his heart at peace.
Right, what he feared would not come.
The wall... did not exist this time.
An hour later, the three, which included the already awake Riri, returned in Kamille’s room. They had dinner, just talking about this and that.
It was like a simple family dinner, as though all of the commotion happening outside never affected them in the slightest. Or simply because it truly did not affect them.
"He enjoyed playing so much; look how exhausted he is." Rise smiled, stroking Riri’s hair for a second, fixing it.
Kamille did not respond, but he knew that the other was also looking fondly at the sleeping little one. Watching Riri sleep peacefully gave a relaxing emotion for some reason.
"I already took down the pictures online."
Kamille spoke in a low tone, informing Rise.
Rise expected as much and so did not react strongly; he only smiled, but his eyes flashed with a vicious light for a moment.
"There won’t be any pictures spreading for a while." His tone relaxed and satisfied.
For what he did, only those brave fools would try. Anyone who was familiar with Rise knew that he never made empty threats.
A comfortable silence soon descended between them as the two only watched Riri with a relaxed expression.
"Do you like kids, Guild Leader?"
"Not really."
"I also don’t."
Rise’s hand reached out, intending to touch Riri’s small hand but stopped, afraid to wake him up.
"I hate kids... I think they’re annoying." Rise grumbled, speaking honestly. He had enough of kids’ evil minds when he grew up in an orphanage and so was never fond of them.
And not like kids were also fond of him either, always trembling with fear or crying when he was around.
"But... I like Riri." Rise smiled, slowly turning to Kamille as he met his gaze; seeing the same fondness made his smile grow.
He did not know what actually made him so adamant to protect Riri, or that what was the reason he and Kamille were so fond of him. His protective instincts just activated almost automatically.
A fresh face... Maybe that was it?
No matter, Rise shrugged it off and would do what he wanted to do, as always.
By the next day, things escalated in a direction everyone anticipated. No one was already surprised by the huge crowd gathering outside of the building.
Although some of the Guild members and staff felt troubled by this, thinking everything was inconvenient.
"Can we drive them all out?" An esper looking out of the window asked, concerned but also frowning with discontent. "We still have a scheduled gate raid, and we can’t get through."
The protesters were blocking the way; even the back gates were occupied. Not anyone could use the aircraft, so the sky was out of the question.
"They are fussing over anything."
"These citizens were too ungrateful. We’re protecting them from monsters, but here they are protesting in front of our headquarters, disrupting our operations!"
The situation made the dissatisfaction and division between ordinary people and Espers apparent. Since the start of the awakened era, such discussions never ceased.
"But... is Rise..."
"Shhh..." Someone stopped her, nudging her with a cautious tone. "Don’t mention his name! Do you want to explode here?"
Rise was well-known for making his opponents ’explode’ until only their flesh and gust remained. Although it only happened to monsters and has never been used to his fellow Espers.
But everyone was afraid of it, and more so, the terror of his name was only rekindled after his display of power just yesterday! It was rumored that the aircraft was already unusable after that incident.
The same discussion was happening throughout the building and also on social media.
His intention was achieved; everyone was paying attention to him, and no one became interested anymore in talking about Riri; most were afraid to post it.
"A representative from the Union is coming tomorrow." Hayes finished his report. His reports were mainly about all kinds of organizations wanting appointments to meet Kamille.
The topic was obvious.
"What do you think will happen if I show myself outside?" A curious but playful tone echoed.
Hayes sucked a breath and looked at the man looking out the window, not least bothered that the commotion was caused by him!
He wished he was at least half, no, even just 1% of being this unbothered.
"You can try it," an amused tone replied.
Hayes’s lips parted in shock.
Was his Guild Leader really playing along with Rise’s antics? Yeah, Rise was his lover, but... Was this still the same Guild Leader he knew?
Rise grinned, crossing his arms as he watched the protesters leisurely.
"Then all the fuss will become bigger," he mumbled, smirking.
Humans were brave, especially in such a large crowd.
He looked at them; his eyes blinked, and the scene changed in his eyes. He did not succumb to the memory, letting it pass.
