In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL] -
Chapter 111: Anxious
Chapter 111: Anxious
Zarilan’s heart fell into the deepest despair; it was not entirely because he was about to face his death but because of the fact that their hope, their world’s one last rope to survive, was about to be cut off prematurely.
He could not help but close his eyes in helplessness. There was no way to reason or beg either; the man before them would not listen to any of that.
And that was the truth. This Kamille was not one to negotiate, his impulsive and irrational side.
"AHHHH!" Soon a terrified scream resounded, but it was not loud, more like a hoarse and unwilling shout.
As Zarilan predicted, the formation was about to fall apart. Coupled with the pressure that came from Kamille and the black fire surrounding them, the exhaustion of mana had finally come for them.
It started with one elder, and a few elders soon followed. They collapsed to the floor as they fainted, their faces devoid of any color. However, their expressions were filled with reluctance, not from death itself but from their own incompetence.
Zarilan could not open his eyes to this; he just could not take how their years of plan were falling apart before they could even move forward.
His fist subconsciously clenched, trembling.
One after the other, the elders fainted on their own, their mana drained to a critical limit. The once bright magic circle soon dimmed significantly; there were also gaps as some parts not supplied with mana had their lights die out.
Only one remaining light continued to shine brightly; it was the center where the former clan leader stood. Yet, it seemed soon he too would succumb to exhaustion.
Kamille watched all of this with his dark crimson pupils, not any hint of sympathy within. He did not shift his gaze to others and only stared at the old man.
As the silence stretched, impatience gradually showed in his face. He turned and looked at the man beside the old man. The one that he also found unpleasing to the eye, the one that interested Rise to the point of excitement.
Well, should I erase him first?
The gaze was unsettling, sending a threatening chill into the depths of Zenos’ heart. The man bit his lips; his hands were trembling, just like his knees weakened to the point that he might not stand for long.
Between fighting or escaping, the latter was resounding more in his mind, urging him to do so. However, even if he did, how could he escape?
There was no way to escape!
Kamille squinted his eyes and observed Zenos with his dark crimson pupils.
"You," Kamille spoke, indifferent but also filled with curiosity at the same time.
"H-Huh?" Zenos snapped out of his reverie; his gaze lifted, almost making him dizzy. "What is it?" He asked, wary.
Why is this devil prolonging their death? Was he going to play with them until he was bored enough to kill them?
"Tell me, what’s special about you?"
Zenos paused. "Special?"
"Hmm. Although probably not that special for me to spare you." Kamille’s voice had a natural way of provocation when he was in this state, no matter how indifferent or bored his tone was.
Zenos breathed; he was scared. Yes. But he was also angry and, more so, helpless. He had zero chance of winning; no, it was absolutely impossible.
Just as he was about to answer Kamille, Zarilan’s groan of pain was what stole his attention.
"Father!" Zenos, quickly attended to Zarilan, who was about to collapse on the floor as well, if not for him catching him in time.
Zarilan’s chest was heaving; his temperature was so high. Zenos called for his father again and again, but Zarilan was not responding. His heart sank further; the fear was gnawing all of his being at this moment.
"Haah, boring." Kamille’s voice resounded, and his footsteps also echoed as he approached the two.
Zenos was already squatting on the ground as he embraced his father, who seemed to be in such a critical situation. He looked up, only to meet those devilish gazes.
As the main center of the magic circle also died down, the light of the magic circle completely disappeared. In this darkness, Kamille’s crimson pupils were far sinister and ominous.
"Why?" Zenos could not help but blurt out, "Why are you doing this?" The terror, despair, and fear of losing one had combined, giving him that one last courage to should these questions to the man of darkness of himself.
With every step Kamille took, the black fire surrounding them seemed to become closer. Their appearance carried an indescribable sense of horror, as though at one command they would be able to swallow the collapsed elders on the ground.
In a way, this was not far from what would happen.
"Why?" Kamille tilted his head slightly as he looked down at Zenos; his crimson pupils flashed as he let out a chuckle without any humor. "You should’ve asked that old man."
His expression turned fierce; the impatience was now fully displayed in his face. His mood became worse, and so the black fire could be noticed to have been growing, almost twice as they first appeared.
Soon enough, they might have taken over the whole cave.
"Why is my guide now unconscious?" Kamille’s voice was low but with firm and strong emphasis on his words.
In fact, Kamille might not act this strongly if Rise was merely unconscious. What angered and made him anxious was that he could not feel any signs of warmth from Rise.
Thinking of this, Kamille grinded his teeth, and his pupils glowed even more intensely.
It was as though... The body he was holding was a shell. It was alive, but his soul was not present.
"Where is my guide?" Kamille growled; his emotions became chaotic, and as a result, the black fire grew and erupted further. They also seemed to become alive as they finally coiled around the elders and also at Zarilan and Zenos.
They were like tongues, licking their prey, tasting them, and could not wait to devour.
This feeling was unpleasant; Zenos’ expression hardened.
Kamille’s jaw clenched even tightly, his expression as dark as the abyss itself. In this state, he was never the patient one.
Rise’s cold body was also making him truly anxious, to the point that he was losing his mind.
"I don’t know..." Zenos managed to utter.
He should’ve just stayed silent instead since Kamille hated that answer more.
"If you don’t know..." Kamille coldly spoke, "What’s the use of being alive?"
As always, he did not have any hesitation in this state. No, even if he was in the normal state, his decisions might not differ from each other.
The eerie sounds that seemed to come from the depths of hell howled as the fire soon spread and slowly began to move. They were cheering as they began to envelope everyone as if swallowing the elders; this was what he last saw before Zenos breathed and closed his eyes.
So, this was how he was going to die.
Was he unwilling? Extremely so. However, he could only wait for death, despite his reluctance.
One second... two second... and the enxt seconds. Zenos did not feel the pain of death. Or, Kamille had granted them a painless death? Was the devil that generous?
Slowly, he steeled himself and managed to open his eyes again. His eyes then widened as he realized what was greeted him was not a sea of black fire.
The black fire that was about to devour them retreated and was nowhere to be seen around them. Yet, it was also not a dream because at the center, just before him, was a dome of black fire.
Zenos blinked as he embraced his father’s body tightly; he could not even breathe properly yet, not sure if they were already safe.
He stared at the dome of fire; it was like a curtain, preventing anyone from taking a peek at what was inside.
Zenos swallowed, only to find out his throat had long since dried, making it harder to gulp any saliva.
Where was Kamille? Was he inside? With Rise?
What happened? What made Kamille stop and create a dome of black fire? Zenos could not understand, making him still uneasy despite being alive.
So what exactly happened? After Zenos closed his eyes and could only wait for his death as Kamille decided to erase their existences, just at the nick of time, someone saved them.
Who? Of course, only one could make a wild beast suddenly calm down and be distracted.
Since the maagic circle was not provided with mana, the connection of Rise’s body to the black space was suddenly severed. He was also not too disappointed when his conversation with the book was cut off, as Kamille’s situation was more important.
For some reason, he already had the inkling of what would greet him. And sure enough, his intuition was not wrong. The wild Kamille was now set loose again.
Rise had only woken up; he was slightly groggy, and he did not even know what happened fully yet, but his reaction was faster than even his thought process.
Just before everyone was about to be devoured by the black fire and be killed, Rise reached out and touched the other’s cheek.
With a weak voice, he called out, "Guild Leader."
Unusrprsingly, Kamille paused; his gaze quickly turned to Rise in his arms. Their gazes then met.
The black fire stopped, although seemingly unwilling.
"Ri... Rise?"
Rise suddenly let out a chuckle. His body was weak, but his mind was clear. He then smiled and caressed Kamille’s cheek.
"Did I make you anxious?"
Kamille did not immediately answer and soon let out a huff of laughter, too stunned to speak.
And so, instead of answering, he only clenched his jaw, and within seconds, the black fire then surrounded them, creating a black dome.
