In This Rebirth, The Male Lead Is Mine [BL] -
Chapter 110: Choose
Chapter 110: Choose
Almost ten minutes had passed since they arrived and the magic circle was activated; the elders were also beginning to show signs of exhaustion and being drained of mana.
No one gave up though and continued to persist.
And during this time, Rise was still unconscious. At some point, since his eyes were open without blinking once, Kamille had to close his eyes for him.
Additionally, to prevent any discomfort for Rise, Kamille had already embraced him in his arms, waiting for him to wake up.
"Tell me, what’s going on?" It could be noticed that Kamille’s tone had mellowed down; although still tinted with coldness, it did not have the same threatening manner as before.
What they were doing was their only hope, so they were desperate. Kamille could see that. He could even understand that. However, it was simply unforgivable to involve someone without fully explaining what this hope entails.
Kamille was also more or less biased for his own people, especially so, if it was Rise.
He already noticed that everyone was trying so hard to maintain the magic circle, even at the cost of their lives. It was obvious they were desperate at a glance.
However, Kamille was not that kind to wait without knowing what was going on or if this magic circle was harmful for Rise. He was also at a point where his rational mind was clouded and just needed one push to explode.
Zarilan, whose shoulders were slumped and his face pale, could tell Kamille was not taking no for an answer. He sighed and closed his eyes.
How many minutes? No, it might take hours? Zarilan almost shed tears at the thought. Maintaining this magic circle for even a few more minutes was already draining everything they had.
They would reach their limits in a couple of minutes at most.
He then opened his bloodshot eyes and looked at Kamille’s dark gaze.
"We... We have been waiting for him."
When they said that they did not know Rise in the truest sense, that was not a lie. Although, they knew his appearance and even his name.
Rise Lee.
That was a name that was relayed to them by an artifact that they discovered in this very gate. A priestess of another clan managed to even talk to it and relay its message.
Using her ability to create an image of what she saw, she was able to let every leader and elder see it too. However, as a consequence, her lifespan would greatly decrease. And as though it was extremely hard to bear the image that she relayed, she soon passed away soon after; her lifespan was drained, only leaving her ashes.
Kamille frowned; he was somewhat unconvinced. And yet, in this situation, lying would not benefit Zarilan and the others. He also thought of the child at home, Riri, who could peer at the glimpse of fate.
Everything seemed not too impossible to happen either.
He had a lot of questions, but he held them back and decided to ask what made him concerned the most.
"About Rise... this magic circle, what did it do to him?"
Kamille noticed just how Zarilan seemed to pass, as he did not respond immediately as though guilty.
Instantly, harsh winds began to surround them again; the flicker of red hue in his pupils was intensifying at a faster rate than before. Kamille stared darkly at Zarilan.
Zenos at the side bit his lips; his heart sank. His heart was racing; the threatening aura around Kamille affected him as well. His instincts were telling him to escape, as fast as he could.
He, a proud member of the Lionheart clan, was scared by a mere gaze.
Zarilan choked as he coughed and tried to speak. "I... I don’t know. We don’t know."
That was right. They seemed to forget this point. They did not know what would happen to Rise when he finally made contact with the magic circle.
All that was on their mind was Rise, and that was he was their hope. Everything else seemed not important anymore, and that included his well-being.
He knew how it sounded so absurd, and this answer did not please the man before him in the slightest.
The answer almost echoed in his mind.
They did not know what would happen to Rise.
Rise was now unconscious; he did not know the cause or how to wake him up.
They harmed Rise.
They were a threat to Rise.
These thoughts began to resound in his mind like a thunderclap.
"You..." Kamille’s voice sounded more ominous than his words of the previous times.
Suddenly, Zarilan, the elders, who were slowly showing signs of collapse, and even Zenos had this illusion that they were hearing their heartbeats out loud.
No, it was not an illusion. Their heartbeats were pounding and echoing in the whole cave. This was not just terrifying in a sense; the alarm bells deep in their souls sounded at the same time.
They were going to die.
Zenos, for the first time, was shaking. He was trembling with fear. No, he could not help it this time, no matter how he wanted to calm himself down.
It was as though this was an instinctual reaction after the pressure of a higher being suddenly pressed down on them.
Zarilan’s eyes widened, his eyes filled with shock. This was not his first time being pressured by Kamille, as he had already done it earlier, yet this was by far more horrifying.
No, his pressure earlier seemed just child’s play, like throwing a tantrum after being anxious.
Now, he was truly mad.
Kamille’s jaw clenched; the crimson hue in his pupils had fully taken over the gray ones, much less the original hazel ones. They were even flashing dangerously in a dim light, more prominent, just like a predator eyeing his prey.
This time, the predator did not plan to eat them at all. He had planned to tear them to shreds, or in fact, there was a better choice. He could just... make them cease to exist, in a literal sense.
"No!" Zarilan’s voice trembled; he was filled with fear. His body wanted to flee, but his resolve, which was tainted with despair, was more overwhelming. "Please... just please... let us finish."
He wanted to beg. Zarilan could even fall to his knees if the other wanted to. This was their last chance.
"F-Father..." Zenos called his father in a murmur. He too felt the weakening of his knees. Something that did not even happen, even when he became face-to-face with a baron.
Zarilan choked, and tears began to well up in his tears. It came to a lot of factors: pain, exhaustion, despair, and most of all, the primal fear that Kamille brought.
The other elders were not spared; they almost collapsed if not for their consciousness and will clinging to provide mana for the magic circle, and it was not for long either before they succumbed to it.
"We... Please, we need him. This is for our world; I don’t want to see our world destroyed." Zarilan spoke in urgency, his voice cracking, but he spoke at a faster pace as though afraid that his voice might leave him due to fear and not be able to beg.
Kamille did not move, his hands embracing Rise tightly and securely in his arms. Rise even looked like he was only sleeping peacefully, quite a contrast to his surroundings.
No one, other than him, was at peace.
Kamille’s crimson pupils stared at Zarilan as the old man pleaded for his world, shedding tears. However, his expression was devoid of any expression; there was no pity or sympathy in them.
His mind was only repeating the words: They were a threat to Rise.
I don’t like them. They should not exist.
If I erased them... Rise will be safe.
If they were gone, he would not be annoyed anymore.
Also, he did not care about this world. Was this world more important than Rise? Kamille was selfish and in this state, everything about his emotions was amplified.
The wild Kamille had finally taken the stage once again! Slowly, his crimson pupils flickered with light, and black fire slowly seeped from the floor and the wall of the cave as they slowly took over the surroundings.
In just a span of seconds, the black fire had surrounded everyone around the magic circle. They coiled and seemed to want to reach out, hungry to devour everything from within their reach.
The heartbeats grew louder, amplified by the appearance of the black fire, adding an eerie atmosphere to the already messed up scenario.
"T-This..." Zarilan paused, his lips quivered as he noticed the black fire. He did not know what they were exactly, but his senses alone told them that making contact with them meant a death more terrifying than death itself.
Zenos gulped. He stepped closer to his father; he was standing at the edge of the magic circle earlier. He felt the ominous touch of the black fire, only for a moment, but it was enough for his consciousness to almost leave him.
This was not mere fainting, but in the truest sense. His heart was gripped with fear; everything seemed like a nightmare as the Grim Reaper... No, the King of Death himself appeared to collect their souls.
Kamille watched them for a moment. The despair on their faces seemed so amusing for him, making him want to witness their death as slowly and painfully as possible.
"I’ll give you a choice. at least." Kamille’s lips hooked in a devilish smirk while his gaze remained sinister, just like the blood-red pupils.
Kamille then shifted and lowered his gaze at Rise’s face; his gaze softened slightly before it returned to the same intensity as he looked up again.
"Want me to erase you now or later?" Kamille’s smirk then faded as he locked gazes at Zarilan’s despaired ones. "Choose how you want to die, either way..."
"All of you will die here." Kamille’s tone was like a stamp of death, as visions began to appear in everyone’s minds.
He would not forgive anyone who wanted to harm what was his.
The black fire then moved slightly; they seemed to be cheering, waiting for the orders of their master.
