Chapter 107: First Glimpse (3)

What were they talking about again?

Rise could not be bothered to explain himself, it was good enough that the people involved knew what he was talking about.

Again, Zarilan showed another expression. The old clan leader looked more embarrassed now. It was not only him, but even the elders with him. They knew that their stares could not possibly be hidden from the man himself.

"Well," Zarilan simply scratched his beard under everyone’s gaze and poured on him, the most intense coming from his son, Rise, and also Kamille.

"...we don’t know you in the truest sense." Zarilan pondered, and Rise could tell that the old man was having a hard time articulating or revealing what was on his mind.

There might be more involved to it, which could not be casually talked about.

Suddenly, Rise was reminded again of the incident about that flesh from the public gate. He did not know, but the way this situation was turning out... He would not be surprised a similar case was about to unfold again.

Zarilan took a deep breath. Look at Rise, then at Kamille shifting back to the former.

His expression gradually became solemn.

For some reason, Rise’s heart also began to pound from anticipation and something else.

He was actually slightly anxious about this. Rise instinctively lifted his gaze and looked at Kamille, who was already watching him.

Rise shifted a bit closer, which the other readily accommodated by wrapping an arm around his waist. The two naturally showed such natural action without caring about the other’s opinions about it.

Surprised flickered slightly at Zarilan’s eyes, but he recovered quite quickly.

"If you may... We want to show you something." Zarilan cautiously inquired. Zarilan sighed once more. "We can’t just simply reveal it."

Rise frowned, but somehow he could understand.

He bit his lips then asked, "Do I need to be alone?"

This question had a basis, and if his guess was right that it had something to do with the plot or worse, about the author, then they could not casually talk about this.

Just like about that massive flesh, which needed to even spend its vitality for Rise to know some things, they were not even that significant in Rise’s opinion.

At least the information would not help him much. And so, it could be considered that everything about the plot or the author was taboo. One needs to spend a considerable amount to be able to talk about it.

"We preferred it to be so." Zarilan solemnly answered. However, when he said that, the older man appeared to already anticipate Rise’s next words.

And sure enough, this did not surprise him, except for the few elders.

"Can I bring someone?" Rise finally found the opportunity to hint something to Kamille without him paying the price himself. While he did know the consequences, giving it a try was already a good thing.

"Someone?" Zarilan still asked, even though he already knew who it was, just to confirm.

Rise nodded and then looked at Kamille and smiled.

"I’ll bring him with me."

Kamille did not say anything, but the arm around Rise tightened. In his mind, even if Rise did not propose it, he would not let him be alone with these guys.

Kamille did not fully trust them, much less be around his Guide.

Zarilan glanced at the elders first, and as though talking about each other, they slowly nodded, indicating they agreed. Zarilan also did not have a choice, they already noticed Rise’s strong personality.

"Then, we’ll bring the two of you." Zarilan also relented and agreed.

"Wait, what is it about?" Zenos could not take the curiosity anymore and asked. He did not get where this conversation was going.

He did not like the feeling of being left out much more about how the outsiders seemed to have an upper hand against his father, whom he respected so much.

Zarilan did not directly answer and instead spoke in a vague tone.

"It was also time for you to know this."

Zenos furrowed his brows. Know? Know what?

Zenos did not manage to know the answer until later.

"This is?" Rise asked, when the group entered a secret path.

With him was Kamille, of course. They already left the four cubs; honestly, Rise did not want for the four to be involved too much if it was indeed about the plot or the author.

Knowing too much was not a good thing. He preferred them to be as they normally would, without being tainted by the truth. His intuition had already alarmed him to this.

Rise was selfish. He loved to create chaos for the plot, but he did not sacrifice those people he treasured and was fond of being with.

"It will lead us to the Lionheart Clan’s ancestral hall," Zarilan answered him. Behind him were the elders and also Zenos.

Zenos lips already twitched when he realized where they were heading. He wanted to complain at first since they could not possibly let outsiders set foot in their ancestral hall, but seeing his father and the elders were adamant about this, he could only stay silent.

"Can you give me a hint of what this is about?" Rise inquired, letting his playful side show.

Letting anxiety take over him was not his way of doing things.

"Guild Leader, are you curious?" He had not even heard the answer yet, and he had already talked to Kamille.

Kamille appeared to be leisurely walking beside him, but his eyes were wandering about for quite some time now.

"I am." Kamille simply replied. His gaze was becoming deeper and deeper.

Inwardly, he was intrigued about this whole thing as the True Sight gave him some inexplicable details.

[Lionheart Clan Ancestral Hall]

[Unknown Gate of Time]

Gate of time, huh?

Zarilan chuckled more comfortably now.

"Maybe this place is already fine?" He looked back and asked, "Can we give details even though we haven’t reached the location?"

One elder pondered and answered. "Just hints, this place is not safe yet." He looked cautious and at the same time helpless.

There seemed to be a real danger if they revealed things without reaching the so-called destination.

Zarilan thought of things safe enough to reveal. After a while, his face brightened, and the old man looked pleased to have thought of it.

"A story of a villain is waiting for us there."
