Chapter 106: First Glimpse (2)

Rise could not help but frown; this speculation was surprising but even more so extremely absurd. While thinking of this ridiculous assumption, Rise could not help but keep staring at Zarilan.

He wanted to know the answer for some reason, even with how absurd it was, Rise wanted to confirm. He hated that feeling when he already knew that something was wrong but just could not figure out what the fuck it was.

Since he began to pay attention to him, Zarilan suddenly stopped taking a glance at him and only continued to talk with Kamille, almost making Rise think that it was only probably his imagination.

However, he was sure that it did happen. Even now, he could feel those subtle glances from the elders.

Somehow... It annoyed him as much as he was curious.

Rise turned and shifted his gaze again to the elders, all of a sudden the elders began to lower their heads as though they were not sneaking a glance at him, only a moment earlier!

His brows knitted, as he subconsciously clicked his tongue.

Rise was certain that he did not know anyone of these people prior to this meeting. He had not even entered this world yet. Also, even in his past life, he never met any of them.

Tsk. He hated overthinking things. And he hated those people that made him overthink things more.

Slowly, he swept his gaze to these elders again until he suddenly met Zenos’ gaze. The second male lead of the novel and the current leader of the Lionheart Clan showed a puzzled expression, clearly confused by Rise’s behavior.

This fellow had no clue. Rise nodded at this confirmation.

He did not bother to smile sweetly like he always did, no matter how fake it was; he was not in a good mood for that. Without explaining things, he squinted his eyes and leaned on the couch.

Rise finally stopped observing those elders and paid attention to the conversation again. While he was dying to know the answer to this strange atmosphere he felt, this was still Kamille’s stage.

Rise always expected Kamille’s position, and thus he could naturally step back and lower his presence if necessary. Well, it was not like Kamille needed it.

"We can’t represent our world, but I can guarantee a meeting with other clans." Zarilan’s words seemed convincing enough, and in fact, since he was a legendary figure, Rise could tell that his words should have that much weight.

At least compared to the young clan leader.

Kamille paused and stared at the former clan leader; he studied his expression. His pupils flashed slightly as he slowly nodded his head. However, a slight sense of confusion lingered in his expression, which was directly concealed by his stoic expression.

"Then, we can..." Before Zarilan could finish, Kamille spoke first.

"Before that, I’m just curious about one thing." Kamille did not mind if the other found his interruption rude.

Zarilan seemed not offended and gestured as he said, "Go ahead."

"What is the reason that you agreed to meet us?" Kamille knew the situation at the so-called capital was dire and an impending war was soon to erupt, but they had only been inside for three days at most.

Kamille was certain that even if the Three Nations attacked first, the two sides would not immediately fight the moment they saw each other. Of course, everyone was not a fool, and the time might even be dragged out until it was gradually inevitable to fight.

He sensed the sincerity, and Kamille respected that, he was also convinced. Yet, he was not that naive to think there weren’t any other motives for this. This motive did not necessarily mean bad news for the party, but it was crucial to know this reason.

"Thinking from your perspective, outsiders like ours aren’t worthy to personally visit as we negotiate." Kamille thought of this first as strange.

He already sensed that something was odd. And another thing was... He observed just how they look at Rise. They were subtle glances, potentially could be mistaken for curious glances.

It did make sense since Rise could naturally stand out among the crowd, and it would not be too unreasonable if these natives looked at him in curiosity.

And yet, if it happened again and again, Kamille did not think it was normal. Not to mention, he did not like it one bit.

Kamille stared at Zarilan deeply, waiting for the answer.

The moment that Kamille asked this, Rise already straightened in his seat. He was so curious and realized that Kamille also noticed this. This much did not surprise him.

Zarilan fell silent for a good few seconds, he did not avoid breaking eye contact though, and even shared a deep gaze with Kamille. And then slowly, the former clan leader let out a smile.

The wrinkles around his eyes stretched as he even chuckled. "I’m waiting for this question."

"Your answer?" Kamille did not become intimidated by age; at this negotiation table, they were equals.

Zarilan did not answer immediately, but he again glanced at Rise, who was looking at him so intensely. Kamille could not help but frown at this.

The four cubs also noticed that something changed. What? Why? The conversation was just going smoothly earlier! The four were just clueless cubs. And it was just not them; Zenos was just clueless.

"Do you know him?" Kamille asked again, his tone slightly harsh this time. It was as though everything that related to Rise, his temper was not as calm as he usually was.

Zarilan seemed to finally realize that he was looking at Rise far longer than he intended to. This time, the former clan leader who looked dignified, and whose name resounded throughout this world suddenly seemed to become ashamed.

"I apologize." Zarilan softly apologized to Rise, his tone was even a bit different when he was talking to Kamille than with Rise. As he talked with Rise, there was this sense of caution and even a hint of respect.

Rise finally could not help this time and asked for himself. He was just itching and eager to know the answer, and he did not like how Zarilan was taking longer to respond to such a simple question.

"Do you know me?" Rise’s gaze was sharp, carrying the suspicions he already had since earlier. "You kept staring at me."

Rise did not even hold back. This statement of his was clear to everyone that was aware of what they were talking about, but once it reached the ears of the four cubs plus Zenos, it naturally held another meaning!

Zenos’ lips parted slightly, and confusion filled his face. He shifted his gaze to Rise and to his father. Hayes even choked at his own saliva.

The hell. What was this situation again?
