I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 76: One Should Be Enough
Chapter 76: One Should Be Enough
"Your... what?" Felix asked, staring at Kade blankly. Surely he had misheard? He must have had, right?
But no.
"Hmm? What?" Kade blinked innocently, as if he had no idea what Felix was so dumbfounded by. "My bunny Felix," he then repeated calmly. As if what he was saying wasn’t the most ridiculous thing that came out of his mouth that evening, maybe except for calling himself Vivi’s father.
"You... You named your pet rabbit ’Felix’?" Felix took a guess. It didn’t seem like Kade was talking about him, so that was the most reasonable explanation.
Not that it made the situation any less ridiculous.
"Yes!" Kade looked incredibly proud of himself. "Do you want to see? He’s really cute, almost as cute as you!" he said, and pulled his phone out of his pocket, showing a picture of Felix the bunny to Felix the werewolf.
The bunny was indeed very cute. A tiny ball of fluff with round, glossy eyes and long ears sticking up. But...
’The color is wrong,’ Felix noticed. He wasn’t sad about it or anything, just curious about Kade’s choice. Why white?
He didn’t ask about it though - he doubted he would get a proper answer anyway - and just nodded his head. "Yes, he’s cute. So now that you already have a ’Felix’ for yourself, there’s no need for you to bother me any longer, right?"
"Well..." Kade paused. It wasn’t quite the reaction he had expected (or had been hoping for). "But it’s a bunny."
"So what? You chased after me even when you thought I was a hybrid. Surely you aren’t going to discriminate against bunnies now?"
Felix’s words were complete nonsense. Felix the bunny was a literal BUNNY, not a rabbit shifter. Not that it would make things any different if he were a shifter - the one Kade wanted was Felix Embermane, his fated mate, a wolf shifter, the Omega son of Wilder Embermane and Sienna Winterfell, a former member of the Moonhill Pack... Not just any other ’Felix’.
But Felix already knew that, obviously, so there was no need for Kade to point that out. "No, of course I am not going to discriminate against bunnies... It’s just that bunny Felix is not... my bunny actually," he said instead.
"Oh?" Felix (the werewolf) lifted his brows. "Then whose bunny is he?"
"One of the Omegas from the pack."
"Then why did you say he’s yours?"
"Well, that’s because... I am currently taking care of it. Since I couldn’t allow anyone else to keep ’Felix’ as a pet," Kade admitted hesitantly.
"So... You stole him, you’re trying to say?"
"What ’stole’, Elsie put him in my room herself!" Kade tried to argue, but Felix shook his head.
"You really need to fix your habit of taking people’s pets away from them," he said with a heavy sigh. "If you really like this bunny so much, then you should take the Omega in as well. As your mate. Then you two could be pet parents together..."
Kade’s expression fell, his smile vanishing without a trace, as uncomfortable silence fell around the table. They sat like that for a long while, Felix calm but serious, Kade with his face darkened, Fen glancing between the two of them with an uneasy expression... Only Remi seemed unmoved, watching the situation unfold with pleasure, nested inside Felix’s clothes, against his bare chest.
...Did he take it too far? Looking at Kade’s face, Felix felt as if he might have. Truth be told, he also didn’t quite like the idea of Kade with someone else...
But that was just because of that damned ’fated mates’ thing. He was influenced by the bond that was still between them, that tugged on his body and heart, trying to pull him closer to the Alpha. It would all be gone once they finally went on with the rejection and broke their bond. Surely, Kade would also realize it was better this way then, and would just leave. Get together with a suitable Omega, and he and Felix would never meet again.
Reassuring himself that what he was doing was best for both of them, Felix stubbornly ignored the whining of his wolf, that tried to get him to apologize and snuggle up to Kade, and maintained his calm expression.
In the end, it was Fen who spoke up first, trying to break the uncomfortable tension hanging over them. "Well, that was good!" he smiled, putting his fork away. "We’ll be leaving now, since you probably need some rest. We’ll come back tomorrow!"
"Thank you, but there’s no need." Felix forced a polite smile.
"But we want to! Surely you won’t be so heartless as to just turn us away, hmm? Or... I can come without Kade if you prefer?" Fen suggested. "Oh! And. Should we exchange numbers?"
"...What for?"
"Hmm, just in case you want to chat with me? I grew up together with Kade, so there’s nothing I don’t know about him..."
"Hmm." Felix paused, hesitating. To be honest, he wouldn’t mind learning more about Kade... It would be convenient, since the Alpha was so bent on clinging to him. How to deal with him, or what to be careful of... It was just that Fen didn’t seem like a reliable source of information. There was a chance that he would try to butter Felix up, and warm him up to the idea of becoming Kade’s mate... They were probably close, considering that Kade brought him along on this hospital visit, instead of making him wait outside.
It could very well be a trap.
Still, exchanging numbers... wouldn’t hurt, probably. Kade already had Felix’s number, so it wouldn’t matter so much if he gave it to Fen as well.
"Okay," he eventually nodded his head, causing Kade’s jaw to drop. It was so easy? Fen obtained Felix’s number in less than an hour since they met, while Kade had to wait three months before (officially) obtaining it!
"Oh. I... don’t have my phone on me," Felix suddenly realized, as he reached into his pocket.
"No worries! Give me your hand," Fen took out a pen, pulled Felix’s sleeve up, and wrote the number on his arm. "Call me later!" he grinned.
All while Kade stared at the two of them with disbelief and betrayal written all over his face. If it wasn’t for the fact that Fen was his friend...!
