I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -

Chapter 75: Biologically (Im)Possible
They sat down at the table in the corner, where they wouldn’t be disturbed by people passing around, Felix taking a seat with his back turned to the rest of the cafeteria, so that Remi could peek out from his shirt unnoticed. After all, although he was a witch and could solve many things with casting a proper spell, they had two Alphas with them now, one of whom was already very suspicious of the fox’s identity. It would be best to remain careful in front of them.
"So," Kade started, when they were all seated down. "What happened? It’s still over a month before your due date. And is... your daughter okay?"
"Oh, well. There were several reasons. What happened was..." Felix briefly described all of the events from the last two days, from the contractions that started when he was at work, through his hospital visit in Silverfall, and the subsequent transfer to his current hospital, to how he had given birth to Vivi. He didn’t go into too much detail, just relaying what happened in general, since there was no need for Kade to know it all.
"...And she’s fine now," he finished his story. "She just needs to stay in the NICU for a few more days, and we’ll be good to go. Thank you for your concern."
"Well, that’s good then... But why didn’t you put me as the father?"
At Kade’s words, Felix immediately froze, with his fork lifted halfway to his mouth, the piece of chicken hovering in the air a few inches above the table.
Was Kade seriously bringing it up again?
"And why would I do that?" Felix scoffed, the tone of his voice cold. "You are obviously not the father."
"But I could be," Kade insisted.
"How so? It is simply... biologically impossible." After all, they’ve never slept together. Not to mention, they didn’t even know each other yet when Felix conceived.
"I’m an Alpha, you’re an Omega, so that COULD be biologically possible," Kade still wouldn’t give up. "And yes, I know that I’m not the biological father, but so what? Wouldn’t it be better to have me listed as a father? Then, if Jared Thorne ever found out about your daughter, you could just slap the birth certificate in his face to prove that she’s not his?"
"...Huh." Felix just blinked, staring blankly at Kade, at a complete loss for words.
That was not what he expected. When Kade brought up the fatherhood topic, Felix was convinced it was going to just be more of that ’fated mate’ nonsense. What Kade had (almost) said earlier in the room, ’You’re mine, so she’s also mine’. But instead, Kade not only didn’t even make a single mention of their mate bond, but also presented a clear argument? A reasonable one, at that?
However.
"It doesn’t necessarily have to be you, does it?" he pointed out.
"...Ah?" Kade paused, taken aback. "Well... But wouldn’t it be best if it were me? I mean..." He paused again, thinking for a moment, before he came up with "I’m the heir to the Bloodmoon Pack, so it would be particularly effective. I’m not someone whom he can afford to offend. If you were to grab some random person from the street, then they might get killed, don’t you think?"
Once again... Kade had a point. Him claiming Vivi as his daughter would be far more effective in dealing with Jared.
Except that it also came with some problems. If anyone were to find out that Vivi was Kade’s pup, she would undoubtedly be dragged to the Bloodmoon Pack. Even if Felix refused. As a single rogue, what could he possibly do? If the Bloodmoon Pack was determined to take her, they would do it, even if they had to take her by force. And if Felix tried to deny it, saying she’s not really Kade’s daughter? Then both he and Vivi might lose their lives.
And he didn’t know if Kade would protect him then. If at that point, he’d still be willing to. Or if at that point, he would already want Felix dead for not submitting to him...
He still didn’t know the Alpha well enough, after all. No matter how nice he seemed right now, it could just be an illusion. A facade meant to lure him in.
The Alphas and the mate bond couldn’t be trusted. So, even if Kade claiming Vivi seemed convenient at this moment...
All of a sudden, a red, furry head poked out from Felix’s top, causing him to let out a surprised gasp. A gasp that quickly turned into scolding "Remi!", as the fox craned his neck, and snapped his jaws, capturing the piece of chicken that was still hanging in the air.
Straight from Felix’s fork.
A red flush instantly blossomed on Felix’s cheeks. Wasn’t that an indirect kiss? Yes, Remi was just in his fox form now, but that didn’t change the fact that he was actually a hot witch!
As expected, Felix shouldn’t have let him under his shirt!
"I’ll bring you a new one," Kade instantly offered, staring daggers at the fox, who was clearly very pleased with himself. That’s precisely why he didn’t like this furry ’pet’! He was making moves on the Omega faster than Kade could! And wasn’t even punished for that! How was that fair!
"A nice... pet you have here," Fen lifted his brows with amusement, speaking for the first time since they came to the cafeteria.
"Thank you." Felix cut another piece of chicken, and fed it to Remi. The fork was already used by the fox, so a few more bites wouldn’t make a difference.
"His name is... Remi, did you say? Where did you get him?"
"Oh, he just sneaked to my pantry before. And he’s such a beautiful fox that I just couldn’t help but adopt him."
It wasn’t quite what happened, but there was no need to tell Fen all that.
"I see. Then..." It seemed Fen wanted to say something more, but at that moment, Kade returned with the fork.
Or, well, a whole basket of forks.
"There!" he said, placing it on the table right in front of Felix. "Now we have enough forks for everyone. There’s no need to share!"
"And as for your fox," he added, sitting back down. "You really need to train him better. My bunny Felix would never act so out of line!"
Felix paused, giving Kade a blank stare. "Your... what?"
