I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 73: Who’s the Father?
Chapter 73: Who’s the Father?
"...Father?" Felix’s heart stopped for a second, all the blood draining from his face.
His daughter’s father? Surely not...
But, he quickly shook his head. No, there was no way it was Jared. How would he know? How would he find out so fast? Felix did give the hospital his real name - almost. He introduced himself as ’Felix Winterfell’, with his mother’s surname - as he was distracted at that time and couldn’t think clearly...
Still. It would take almost twenty hours to drive here from the Moonhill Pack. Shorter if one were to take a flight, but werewolves typically weren’t too fond of flying, rarely using planes or helicopters. Jared would have had to hear about it as soon as Felix was admitted, or else he wouldn’t have made it here so fast. And unless there was someone who could recognize Felix working in this hospital - which would be an insane coincidence - how was he supposed to find out so fast...?
"Sir?" The nurse looked at Felix with concern. "Is everything alright?"
"Ah." Felix gasped, snapping out of his thoughts. He almost forgot she was still there, waiting for his answer. "I’m sorry, but there must be some mistake. My daughter doesn’t have a father."
"Ugh... Alright, I understand." The nurse looked a bit uneasy, but she still left the room.
Only to return a few minutes later.
"Sir? The man insists that there is no mistake and he is the father..."
Felix bit on his lip, hugging Remi tighter to his chest out of anxiety. Normally, he’d be feeling self-conscious now, with the fox under his clothes, but with everything going on, he kind of forgot that his furry ’pet’ was actually a hot, handsome man. At least for now, he was just a source of comfort and support that could help him get through whatever (or whomever) waited for him outside the room...
However, a moment later, he was able to relax a bit, when the nurse said, "He even knew your daughter’s name..."
"...Did he introduce himself?" Felix immediately ask, needing to make sure.
"Ah, yes. He said his name is Kade Blackstone..."
Felix exhaled with relief, all the tension instantly disappearing from his chest.
So it was Kade. Then it made sense that he knew. Felix was taken to the hospital by his men, after all.
But father? Why would he give Felix just a scare?
"Ah, thank you, I know who it is," Felix said to the nurse. "I’ll go see him now." He squeezed Vivi’s hand one last time, and left the neonatal unit.
Kade was waiting in Felix’s room, together with a white-haired werewolf whom Felix did not recognize. But he didn’t have much of a chance to get a good look, before Kade rushed to him, hiding the other man from sight. Not intentionally, he was just so tall and big that when he got too close, he naturally filled Felix’s whole vision.
"Congratulations on giving birth!" he said with a wide smile, reaching his arms to wrap Felix in a hug that the Omega barely dodged. "How is our daughter? Is she alright? I’m sorry I’m so late, but I didn’t expect you to give birth so soon! Why didn’t you call me? Well, I’m glad that you at least called the guards, but-"
"Hold up." Felix lifted his hand, interrupting Kade’s rambling. "What do you mean by OUR?"
"Hmm? Well, you’re mine, so naturally she’s also... Ah." Kade bit his tongue. A bit too late, as most of the sentence had already left his mouth, with the meaning of it more than clear, but he forgot himself a bit in excitement and said his real thoughts. Even though he wasn’t supposed to bring up the topic of their mate bond until Felix properly recovered after the pregnancy.
Felix’s brows twitched, but he continued, "And what’s this about being a father? Do you know what a scare you gave me?"
"Hmm? But why?" Kade frowned, confused.
"Well, with my daughter’s father?"
"But I gave the nurse my name, so I thought you would understand?"
"...Right from the start?"
"Yes, of course."
...So it was the nurse’s fault. Or, mistake, rather, Felix didn’t blame her, since she didn’t do it in bad faith. She was just unaware.
He let out a heavy sigh, rubbing his brows. Well, as long as Jared wasn’t here.
"So this is your ’cute little mate’, huh?" The unknown wolf that came with Kade spoke up all of a sudden, interrupting the awkward silence. He approached the two, stopping right next to Kade, and tilted his head as he observed Felix with his pale blue eyes. Almost as tall as Kade, only about an inch shorter, he was also an Alpha, judging by the faint scent of his pheromones - fresh snow and pines, like forest in winter.
"He’s beautiful indeed... But, didn’t you say he had already given birth?" he lifted his brows, as his gaze fell on the bulge on Felix’s stomach.
Felix quickly hid the bulge, wrapping his arms around it defensively. "That’s... That’s just my pregnancy weight!"
"Oh, okay," the white-haired Alpha just nodded his head, but Kade wouldn’t be fooled so easily. His purple black eyes narrowed with suspicion, and before Felix could react, he jabbed the so-called ’pregnancy weight’ with his finger. It let out a surprised, high-pitched "yiip!" in response and stirred...
"I didn’t know the hospital allowed any animals in," he remarked, staring intently at the bulge, which once again became quiet and still, as if its unusual movement from a moment ago didn’t happen.
Felix only tightened his arms around his stomach - and the fox - and turned away from Kade. "What, are you going to report me?"
"Of course not. But it would be better for me to take your little pet away, don’t you think?" Kade grinned widely, although the smile didn’t quite reach his eyes. "Those rules exist for a reason. Your furry friend should wait outside, while I take care of you and our... I mean, your pup."
Felix only scoffed, and marched away. "Thank you for your concern, but I’m good on my own! Remi is my emotional support pet, I’d rather he stay with me. Young Master Kade, thank you for your visit, but isn’t it time for you to go?"
