Chapter 72: Tiny Little Pup
Chapter 72: Tiny Little Pup
With the help of the guards left in Silverfall by Kade, Felix arrived in the hospital not long after. He was quickly admitted and taken to the maternity ward to be examined by a doctor. However, he didn’t end up staying there too long, as after the blood test and the examination, the doctor assessed that it wouldn’t be recommended to stop the labor...
Thus, Felix had been fed medicines to slow down the labor, a steroid injection to try to help with his pup’s development, before leaving the hospital again. Silverfall was just a small town, after all. Although they had a maternity unit, it wasn’t well-equipped, with no neonatal intensive care unit that a premature baby might need. Felix had to be transported to a different hospital, in a city an hour’s drive away.
He gave birth the next day, in the early hours. Alone, with just the Bloodmoon Pack’s guards waiting... somewhere. Felix didn’t quite know where, since it was long past the visiting hours, but they were just strangers to him anyway, so their presence didn’t bring him much reassurance.
After close to two hours of painful pushing, he finally delivered. A tiny little pup, his daughter... He barely got to hold her for a moment, before she was taken away from him again to be placed in the neonatal unit. Her condition wasn’t severe, as the nurses quickly reassured him, but she still needed intensive care...
It wasn’t quite how Felix imagined this moment. The hospital’s white walls felt so cold, and everything felt so empty, despite the doctors and nurses wandering around... Luckily, at least his condition was good enough so that he could get up from the bed within fifteen minutes, going straight to the neonatal unit. He stayed there for hours, holding his daughter’s tiny hand, until the nurses finally managed to coax him to return to his room to get some rest.
By the time he woke up again, it was already afternoon, and there was a surprise waiting for him. Among the intense smells of disinfectant and cleaning products, with strong notes of bodily fluids underneath, all characteristic of hospitals, there was now a hint of jasmine mixed in. Light and concealed, but impossible to miss for a wolf’s nose.
And that wasn’t the only thing. There was also something warm, soft and furry pressed to his side...
Felix lifted up the blanket, taking a peek. "Remi? What are you doing here?"
The fox raised his head, got up, stretched... And lay back down, except that now with his head on top of the Omega’s chest.
"You’re awake?" The door opened, and Brielle walked in. "How are you feeling?"
Felix looked up, surprised. He didn’t expect anyone to drive all the way to the city to visit him. Well, except maybe Kade, if the Alpha wasn’t busy with some pack business somewhere else. Not that he needed anyone to accompany him... But it felt nice that someone cared enough to do so.
"I’m alright, thanks," he smiled at the mermaid. "Did you bring him here?" he then asked, pointing at Remi with his chin.
"Yes, it’s my day off today, so I had time. I also brought you some clothes and some other things you might need. Remi packed, so if there’s anything wrong, just complain to him."
There was indeed a duffel bag placed right next to his bed, filled to the brim with various necessities. The bag wasn’t his - it must have been from the witch - and while the clothes inside were mostly his, there were other things he most certainly didn’t buy. He didn’t have anything prepared for his potential hospital visit yet, as he didn’t expect to give birth so soon.
"Thank you so much, you didn’t have to!" he said, both to the clingy fox, as well as to Brielle, who took the time out of her day to come all this way.
"It’s not a problem, really," Brielle waved her hand dismissively. "Is there anything else you need? I have to leave soon, the afternoon visiting hours are almost over."
"Ah, no, thanks a lot, I’m good! What about Remi though?" Felix eyed the red ball of fur. "How did he even get here? Are animals allowed in the hospital?"
"They’re not, so you have to hide him well! Don’t worry about it too much, he can take care of himself. Unless you want me to take him away?"
"Ah..." Felix hesitated for a moment. He didn’t want any problems - and any potential fines he might have to pay on top of already exorbitant hospital fees. He didn’t really know what might happen if they were to get caught - but at the same time... Remi’s presence felt reassuring. It was good to have the fox around...
"No, let him stay. As long as he can stay out of the nurses’ sight," he finally said.
"Alright then. I’ll be going now, but let me know when you’re out. I can come pick you up if you need a ride!"
"Thanks a lot."
Shortly after, Brielle left, and the nurses came to check up on him. Then, Felix got changed, putting on one of the skin-to-skin tops that he had found in the duffel bag. His pup was still too fragile for Felix to hold her in his arms... But Remi insisted Felix wear it, and the Omega soon found out why - it wasn’t for his daughter, but rather so that the fox could sneak in and hide underneath his clothes! Felix let it be, though. He just let out a sigh, and slid on a thin, loose sweater on top to try to hide his new ’bump’. This way, Remi could accompany him to the neonatal unit to see Vivi.
She was doing well. Although she was still connected to the breathing support and fed through a tube, the doctor said that unless any complications arise, she should be able to leave the hospital within ten days. They stayed at her side, Felix rubbing her tiny hand as she slept...
Until two hours later, shortly after 6 PM, the door suddenly opened.
"Um, Sir," the nurse spoke, looking a bit startled. "You have a visitor. He claims to be your daughter’s father?"
