I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 70: Future Mate’s Former Room

Chapter 70: Future Mate’s Former Room

The next day, Ashley approached Kade and Fen soon after breakfast. With a group of six other young Omegas, not all of whom were unmated, as Kade could easily tell by the scent. Ashley must have brought those who were most loyal to her and would make her look good, it seemed, rather than picking those who could attract Kade. She was probably determined to snatch the Alpha for herself, especially after Kade had ’shown interest’ in her the day before.

Well, whatever. It had actually suited Kade more. Among her close friends, Ashley was bound to feel more relaxed, therefore it would be more likely for her to run her tongue.

"Young Master," she said seductively, flipping her hair and batting lashes, "Would you like us to show you around?"

Typically, considering Kade’s status, most medium and small packs would have their leader attend to him, or eventually the pack’s Luna, the official heir, or one of the important Elders. Not some random young Omega, no matter how popular she was within the pack.

But Kade didn’t point that out, and just smiled in response. "I would be delighted."

Ashley and her group led Kade and Fen around, showing them all the buildings within the pack house, from the guest house, through the garden, the gym, and the swimming pool, and finishing in the main house. There wasn’t really all that much to show, as the Moonhill Pack’s pack house wasn’t all that big, at least not compared to the Bloodmoon Pack’s. Just an ordinary medium pack’s pack house, like many others. The only difference was that it was where Kade’s cute little mate grew up...

As they walked, Ashley slowly shifted closer and closer to Kade, until finally, she reached out her hand, and wrapped it around the Alpha’s arm. At first, Kade almost instinctively pushed her away... But he stopped himself just in time. Although it felt unpleasant, and especially disgusting considering he was in Felix’s home pack, if he were to reject Ashley now, it would only ruin all the efforts he put into acting nice...

So instead, he leaned toward the girl, and asked, lowering his voice to a whisper, "Where is the room of that missing Omega of yours?"

Ashley instantly tensed up, her eyes narrowing. "Why do you ask?"

"Well, I’m supposed to investigate this case, right? If I can take a look and confirm that everything seems to be in place, it will be easier for me to support your claim that he didn’t go rogue..." Kade paused for a moment, giving Ashley a smile. "I just want to help you. I’m sure you know how the others would look at the Moonhill Pack if it turned out otherwise."

Ashley hesitated for a moment, but eventually nodded her head. She had the permission from Jared to show Kade anything he asked for, except for his and the Elders’ rooms and offices, so there was no issue with taking Kade to Felix’s room. To maintain the pretense that Felix was truly treated well and respected as their ’future Luna’, however, she said, "I can show you the room, but only you can enter with me, as it’s usually off limits."

"Of course, I understand," Kade immediately agreed. Why would he want a bunch of other people to come with him to his (future) mate’s (former) bedroom?

They went up the stairs and stopped by a plain, white door with a tag ’Felix’ on it. Ashley quickly unlocked it with her master key, and opened it wide, letting Kade step in first, and following closely after him, while the rest remained in the hallway, waiting for their return.

The room was... better than Kade expected. A spacious en-suite, just as good as the guest room he received. It was nice... but oddly empty. Lifeless. There were various items spread here and there, covered with a layer of dust - the room probably hasn’t been cleaned since Felix’s disappearance - but it just lacked something. There were no failed knitting projects, no half-finished clay vases, nothing that would stand out and make Kade think, ’Ah, that’s really my cute little mate’s room’.

It was kind of... sad.

"What kind of person is he?" Kade asked, seemingly casually, as he flipped through a book lying on the desk, and spreading dust around.

"Who, Felix? Well... He is the only son of our former leader... And our current leader’s fated mate... He is a strong Omega, and his face is quite pretty..."

Ashley’s words were all very careful, it was clear that she was still reluctant to say too much. Kade lifted his eyes from the book for a moment, scrutinizing the girl, before letting out a light, mirthful chuckle.

"Well, he must be pretty great, if he can become the Luna when there’s an Omega like you in the pack!"

His hidden provocation hit the mark perfectly, because Ashley’s whole face twisted. "Great? Him? As if!" she scoffed, crossing her arms and pouting her lips. "Yeah, his father is great, but his mother was just a weakling! She was never even our Luna. Felix was weak as a pup as well, and who knows, maybe he’ll die young just like her! Seriously, if you ask me, Jared deserves much better! Felix is just... Uh, I mean..." Ashley’s eyes widened in terror, and she threw Kade a fearful glance. She was so used to berating Felix that she completely forgot herself for a moment...

"Ahem, what I mean to say," she cleared her throat, trying to quickly correct herself. "He is very lucky to have Jared, who wants him despite his faults."

Kade’s jaw was clenched hard, and his whole body was tense, as he barely managed to restrain himself. How dared she talk about his mate like that! And what was that about Felix dying young? His tests results all came out okay, he was in perfect health. Unless there was something more to it?

For now though, he closed the book in his hands, and forced a smile. "He must be lucky indeed." Lucky to have fled from this pack and met Kade, of course. "Anyway, where are his documents? I need to confirm they are all in place."

Seeing that Kade didn’t think much of her little outburst, Ashley exhaled with relief. "In the bottom drawer."

"Thank you." Kade smiled, and checked it out. Indeed, all of Felix’s documents were still there, from birth certificate, to his driving license and ID. He pulled out his phone, and snapped a quick photo of them, before turning back to Ashley. "Alright, over with the boring stuff. How about we go out now? I would like to see the area around the pack house as well, if that’s okay?"
