I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 69: So-so
Chapter 69: So-so
"Felix Embermane is my fated mate, and the future Luna of the Moonhill Pack."
Hearing Jared’s words, Fen almost choked. Although he already had heard a few things from Kade, his friend had always framed it as ’my cute little mate’s stupid former mate’. So to hear Jared declare Felix as his future Luna so boldly... Fen immediately threw a furtive glance at Kade.
And sure enough, there was a vein pulsing at the side of Kade’s neck, and his eyes were a bit too dark, his smile too tense. But at least he managed to remain calm enough to keep on the act.
"I understand," he nodded his head solemnly. "In such case, what do you think happened to him?"
"This..." Once again, Jared exchanged uneasy glances with the Elders. "Since he hasn’t run away, then it must be a kidnapping."
"Have you been contacted for the ransom?"
"No, we haven’t."
"Hmm." Kade rubbed his chin. Well, not every kidnapping was for ransom, it could also be for information, or to weaken a pack, and in Felix’s case, it could also be because of his father, so there wasn’t anything particularly odd about it.
"Then, who do you think could have kidnapped him?" he asked next, causing Jared and the Elders to grow even more consternated.
"This..."
"Surely you must at least have some suspicions, no?" Kade curved his mouth in an encouraging smile.
But Jared wouldn’t fall for it. Although he was young, he was a pack leader for a reason. He had prepared for this role for years, and could handle such a conversation appropriately, no matter how nervous he was.
"Even if we do," he said, neither confirming nor denying it, "I don’t dare say. If I were to make any accusations without sufficient evidence, it could only escalate the problem. Potentially putting my mate in even more danger."
Kade’s eyes twitched at the word ’mate’, but he nodded his head with understanding. "That’s true," he said, reaching for a glass of wine and taking a sip.
And then scrunching his nose a bit, and putting it down, as if it wasn’t good enough for his palate.
Not that the wine was bad, it was acceptable. Nothing too fancy, just something that would be branded as ’everyday wine’ in the Bloodmoon Pack’s main mansion, but still quite tasty. It was only because Kade wanted to show his dissatisfaction (caused by Jared’s words, not the wine) somehow that he rejected it after just a small sip.
But the wolves from the Moonhill Pack didn’t know it.
"Mr. Blackstone, is the wine not to your taste?" Jared asked, gesturing at the servants. "Would you prefer a different one?"
"It’s so-so. There’s no need to, I would like to take a little rest now if that’s okay?"
"Of course. Ashley and Shiloh will take you to your rooms in a moment," Jared pointed at the two Omegas sitting by the table. "May I ask how long you are planning to stay in the Moonhill Pack?"
"Hmm... A few days, I think. I would like to investigate this case for a bit longer, if that’s okay." Kade smiled widely, causing Jared and the Elders’ expressions to drop.
But they didn’t dare refuse the Bloodmoon Pack’s heir, not to mention, it could potentially be beneficial for them, depending on how things went. If they made a good impression, potentially they could strengthen their relationship and have a connection to one of the supremes... Not to mention, Kade was still unmated. If one of the Moonhill Pack’s Omegas managed to catch his eyes...
Jared exchanged glances with Ashley, giving her a nod. ’It doesn’t matter who, just make sure one of our Omegas seduces him!’ was what his face said.
Ashley flipped her long, dark hair over her pale, slender shoulder, and approached Kade with a sweet smile. "Young Master, would you mind following me?"
"...Of course," Kade returned the smile, flashing his white teeth and making the girl blush. He was not only rich and powerful, but also incredibly handsome, after all. He stood up and followed Ashley, who walked ahead swinging her hips and releasing her peach pheromones, as she led them to the guest house.
"Here are your rooms," she said, stopping on the top floor. "Is there anything else I could do for you?"
Kade smiled brightly. "No, thank you, we’re good for now. But I’ll make sure to find you if I need anything later."
Naturally, he knew very well what was going on, but it didn’t bother him that much now. Rather, it was convenient. He could use all this flirting to his advantage, to gather more information. Anything was useful, whether facts or gossip, especially when coming from the Moonhill Pack members. It might help him understand his cute little mate better, and perhaps finally find a way to win him over!
So, not caring whether he was being a jerk, he released a bit of his sandalwood pheromones, inciting the Omega to keep on trying to seduce him.
Blushing heavily, Ashley bowed her head. "I will be waiting, then," she said and excused herself, leaving Kade and Fen alone (although not without casting a good few backward glances).
"Well then," Kade nodded at Fen, and they separated, each stepping into their own room.
Only for Kade to message Fen a moment later. They had things to discuss, after all, it was just that they couldn’t have a proper conversation in the Moonhill Pack’s pack house, where their rooms could be bugged.
Where their rooms were most certainly bugged.
[I will ask them to show me around tomorrow, and to take me to his room. Find our spy then, and arrange a meeting somewhere safe. I want to talk to him in person.]
Fen’s answer came not even a minute later. [Okay. Are you going to take his stuff away?]
Kade tapped his fingers on his thigh, as he sat down on the edge of the bed. He was tempted to do so, as he hated the fact that his mate’s things were still in his former pack, but...
[Not yet.]
There wasn’t any reason he could give the Moonhill Pack to confiscate Felix’s things, and he didn’t want to create any unnecessary problems. He still hasn’t won Felix over, and he didn’t know how the Omega felt about his former pack, so Kade wouldn’t do anything to them.
For now, at least. Not until he had Felix’s explicit permission to eliminate them.
