I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL]
Chapter 60: Hunter Turns Into Prey

Chapter 60: Hunter Turns Into Prey

It was already way past midnight when Kade drove through the tall, metal gates, entering the massive complex that was the Bloodmoon Pack’s pack house. He drove for twelve hours straight to get back home, after driving for ten hours the night before to get to Silverfall from Purple Peak Pack.

All just so that he could spend... what, an hour with his cute little mate?

Well, it was the courting phase. A once-in-a-lifetime kind of experience. He would be able to whine about it to Felix once he finally won him over, to coax some extra kisses or favors.

However, while he didn’t mind that Felix was being rather... difficult - quite the opposite, he enjoyed that he had to put in some effort, chasing after his cute little mate - that didn’t change the fact that right now, he was a bit tired. He’s been awake for over forty hours, after all. He got out of the car, and after confirming that Felix’s samples had arrived safely and were sent over to the lab, he went straight to bed...

Or at least he intended to.

Unfortunately for him, the news about his return traveled past, and while most of the pack members had retired for the night, they were not necessarily asleep just yet... And so, those who were capable of doing their no-makeup makeup quickly enough, left their rooms to go on a hunt.

Their prey? Kade Blackstone, of course!

The first challenger was Thalia, a nineteen-year-old Omega with strawberry blond locks and a face full of freckles. Kade ran into her right at the front door of the main mansion, where she tripped over the doorstep, and bumped into Kade’s chest...

Almost. Except that his reflexes were too fast for that, and he dodged to the side in time. Which led to Thalia toppling over. She would have fallen face-first on the cold, hard stairs, if it weren’t for Kade catching her wrist in time and pulling her back, stabilizing her.

As much as he’d like for the Omega to suffer some consequences of her dumb actions, so that perhaps she’d finally learn her lesson, he was the Young Master. It was his duty to protect the Omegas, even from their stupid selves.

"T-thank you, Young Master!" Thalia smiled... Only to flush bright red as her eyes drifted down. "Ah, this! Y-young Master, please don’t look!"

A strap of her flimsy night gown had ’accidentally’ slipped off her shoulder when she tripped, exposing her bosom. She fumbled with it for a while trying to cover herself up, taking way longer than she should. All while trying to sneak glances at Kade.

Who had already let go of her, and walked through the door. How could he possibly fall for such a common trick? While most people would instinctively take a look when someone told them not to, Kade was the opposite, conditioned by a few years of Omegas trying their tricks on him, ever since his teens. He only said,

"You should head back to your room, it’s late," and walked away. No questions about what she was doing, going out at this hour or anything. Why would he, when he already knew all the possible excuses she might give?

Of course, his predicament was far from over. Next, he ran into Julien. A twenty-three-year-old Omega, a year older than Kade. Rumor is he rejected his fated mate because the poor guy was just a Beta from a medium-sized pack, not good enough for Julien, who had been eyeing a much better catch to sink his teeth into. And so, he appeared on the staircase, in shorts so short they could hardly be called ’shorts’ at this point, and a silky top. With his hair wet, droplets of water trickling down his neck and disappearing under the collar.

"Young Master?" His mouth turned into a perfect ’o’ at the sight of Kade. "When did you return?"

"...Just now," Kade answered curtly, climbing up the stairs, skipping two steps.

Just as he passed Julien, though, the Omega called out to him, attempting to grab his elbow. "Wait!"

Kade managed to take his elbow out of the way, but he still responded, "Yes?"

"Young Master, could I borrow your hairdryer? Mine just stopped working..."

Right. A reasonable request. Kade maybe could have believed it...

If he hasn’t been asked the same thing by other Omegas plenty of times already. Thus, he only smiled apologetically, "I’m so sorry, but mine is also broken," and quickly scaled up the rest of the stairs before Julien could even respond.

The disadvantages of being the heir to the pack. He had to pay a lot of attention to his reputation, and couldn’t afford to be rude for no reason (and being annoyed wasn’t a good enough reason in his mother’s eyes).

But it wasn’t over just yet. As he got to the hallway leading to his quarters, he ran into Elsie, who had no business being there...

"Ah, Young Master!" she called out, her eyes filled with tears... Or rather, eye drops. Unless she finally learned how to cry on cue? Because all of her previous attempts to do so were miserable at best.

"Yes?" Kade forced the corners of his lips to lift it a polite smile. "Is there any problem?"

"Ah, my Fifi ran off, and I can’t find her anywhere!" Elsie bawled.

"...Fifi?"

"My new pet bunny, Felix!"

Kade had to bite on his lip to stifle his laugh. "You’ve named your pet bunny ’Felix’?"

"Hmm?" Elsie paused, tilting her head, so confused by the reaction that she forgot to cry. "Yes, is there something wrong?"

"No, no, absolutely not!" Kade shook his head, fighting hard against the laughter that threatened to escape his chest. "It’s a great name!"

"Thank you! Then, Young Master..." Elsie lowered her head, playing with her night gown. "Could you help me find him? I am truly worried about my Fifi!"

She didn’t look so. As expected, she was still a terrible actress. And she probably hid the bunny herself, and knew exactly where he was.

Regardless, looking for a missing pet wasn’t something Kade had to help out with, no matter what was the name of the bunny, so he curved his mouth in a compassionate smile, and was about to politely excuse himself out of the situation, when a whiff of frosty rose scent wafted into his nose, and someone approached him from behind, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"I’m sorry to interrupt," Caelan smiled at Elsie. "But I need to borrow Kade for something important. Pack business. But, Elsie, if you’re looking for a bunny, then I think I saw one on the ground floor five minutes ago?"
