I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 59: A Much Better Blessing
Chapter 59: A Much Better Blessing
Felix paused with a cinnamon roll lifted up to his mouth, just an inch away from biting. "You were listening?" he asked, arching his brows.
Even though it was obvious Kade had to. Otherwise, how would he know Felix was having a daughter? It’s not like there was any time for him to talk to the doctor in private or read the medical records.
And yet, he still stupidly tried to argue, "I wasn’t listening! I just happened to hear!"
As if. Yes, werewolves’ hearing was great, but would he have been able to hear if he waited in the car, as a normal person would? No, he had to be standing on the porch like an idiot that whole time to hear what the doctor was saying.
How ridiculous. Sometimes, it was hard to believe that this man was the heir to a powerful pack.
Felix let out a sigh and shook his head lightly, letting it go. He wasn’t even angry about this blatant invasion of privacy, at least not this time. After all, Kade would undoubtedly receive a full report from the squirrel doctor anyway. It was something to which the Omega had indirectly agreed by accepting the examination.
Which made Kade’s behavior even more stupid in Felix’s eyes. What was he even trying to do here? Was his behavior affected by the pull of the mate bond? Or was he trying to appear more harmless in front of Felix? Either way, he wouldn’t get what he was hoping for.
But it didn’t mean Felix had to ignore him completely, not when the Alpha was so helpful, so Felix said, "I was thinking about Elaine, Vivian, or Selene... But I haven’t decided yet."
"Hmm... I think Selene would be nice!"
...Or perhaps it was better to draw a clear line? Felix merely answered one question (’answered’ was the key word. He wasn’t asking for advice!), and Kade already wanted to pick the name for his daughter!
Well, okay, perhaps that was an overreaction. It was a rather normal response for Kade to say which one of the options he liked the best. Maybe it was his pregnancy hormones acting up, or maybe it was simply because it was Kade, but Felix just couldn’t help but defiantly say, "I think Vivian is much better!"
"You think so? But Selene means ’moon’," Kade pointed out. "It’s like fate!"
Ugh. Now Felix liked the name even less. Why would he name his daughter like that? He wouldn’t wish for her to be bound by fate!
Still, he couldn’t help but ask, "How do you even know it? Are you some sort of name expert?"
"Hmm? Ah, the meaning behind the name?" Kade grinned widely. "That’s because my maternal grandmother’s name is Selene!"
And that settled it. ’Selene’ was definitely crossed out from the list of potential names.
Seeing Felix’s discontented expression, Kade shifted the focus of the conversation a bit. "What about Vivian? Why this name?"
"Well, I think it’s nice," Felix shrugged his shoulders. "And it means ’full of life’. I think that’s a much better blessing than some stupi..." He bit his tongue, not finishing the sentence. He was about to say ’stupid fate’, but he realized in time that perhaps it wasn’t the best idea. No matter how annoyed he was at Kade, offending his grandmother was taking it a step too far... A few steps too far.
Luckily, the Alpha either missed it, or chose to ignore it, and just smiled at Felix. "Yes, it’s a good name. So, Vivi then?"
"...I guess."
"Nice. Then our second daughter can be named Selene!"
Felix’s face twisted in utter disgust. He glanced at his half-eaten pastry, and put it down. "I think I’ve lost my appetite."
"Eh? No way! You have to eat well!" Kade pushed the plate with the pastries even more toward Felix. "If you don’t like the cinnamon roll, then how about you try the cheese danish? Or the apple turnover? Or-"
"The pastry is not a problem," Felix cut him off. "Your face in front of my eyes is."
"Eeeh? Wow, that’s... that’s quite a blow. I didn’t expect it." Slouching his shoulders, Kade clutched his chest, acting hurt. Only to brighten up a second later. "Oh, I know. You probably meant that I’m so handsome that you can’t focus on eating, right? Because instead of pastries, you’d rather eat ME up, right? I’m right, right?"
Once again, Kade managed to leave Felix at a complete loss for words. The Omega could only stare at him blankly, struggling to believe that a person like that truly walked the Earth. In the end, he just sighed softly, and picked up his pastry, chewing on it absentmindedly. Appetite or not, he had to eat, and the sooner the pastries were gone, the sooner he could return home.
At least Kade stopped bothering him after that, letting Felix finish the breakfast in peace. Only when they got back in the car, did he speak up again.
"I will be leaving now," he said, as he drove Felix home (taking a roundabout route, of course).
"Huh?" Surprised, Felix couldn’t help but look at the man. "So soon?"
"It’s sad, I know," Kade sighed theatrically, causing Felix to roll his eyes. "But I’m a busy man. There’s a lot I need to do... So I want to take care of it now, to make sure I will be free in July and August."
"Uh, okay?" Felix lifted his brows, pretending to be confused as to why Kade was telling him this.
But although Kade knew it was just an act, he still wanted to leave no confusion, real or fake, so he explained, "Your due date is in July, right? I want to be here for it."
It was... a nice gesture. Caring. Still, Felix turned away with a shrug. "What for? It has nothing to do with you."
"Well, I think otherwise. After all, you are my..." Kade paused, not finishing the sentence. He had promised not to bring up the mate bond again until some time after Felix gave birth.
Even though he kind of already broke it by talking about them having children together.
How stupid.
"Well, anyway, I want to be here with you," he said after a while. "And wouldn’t you want a werewolf doctor to assist with the delivery, rather than a human one?"
"Do whatever you want," Felix scoffed, staring out of the window. "Just remember that whatever favors you want to push onto me, I am not obligated to ever return."
The corners of Kade’s mouth lifted in a wide, silly grin, like a kid who had just been given a candy as a (consolation) prize. "Of course."
