I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 58: If You Want To Thank Me...
Chapter 58: If You Want To Thank Me...
The sepia image moved on the screen, and with every little jerk, Felix couldn’t help but let out a soft gasp. It was simply impossible for him to pull his gaze away. Although it was just an unclear image, it was such an incredible feeling, to watch his daughter suck on her tiny thumb, as she adjusted in the womb... She seemed to look like Felix more, although he couldn’t quite tell whether it was the truth, or just his wishful thinking.
Which is why he was extremely happy when he heard the doctor say, "She resembles you a lot."
It would be good if that were really the case. Of course, Felix would love his daughter no matter what, but it was just a matter of her safety. Of Felix’s safety. Because if she grew up to resemble Jared, and then ended up being seen by someone even remotely familiar with the Moonhill Pack... Her identity might be suspected, and they could end up getting caught... She would end up being brought to the pack, when she was unlikely to get good treatment, with Felix as her mother. As for Felix... Well, there was a high chance Jared might decide he was no longer needed anymore, since he had already given birth, and dispose of him. Or at least lock him up.
As Felix’s father did to his mother.
And Felix didn’t want this to happen. Put his pup in this situation. Or leave her alone.
"Would you like to keep a video recording?" the doctor asked, interrupting Felix’s thoughts.
"Ah, yes," Felix blinked a few times, snapping out of it. "Thank you very much!"
He took a deep breath, calming himself down and pushing the worries away. He shouldn’t stress himself out for no reason. Stress wasn’t good for his pup. Rather than pointlessly dwell on what problems the future might hold, he should just focus on the present. Be happy that his pup was healthy, and think about the name. He had some ideas already, of course, but he had yet to decide.
Now that his examination was all over, Felix put his T-shirt back on, and scrambled off the treatment chair. He wanted to call Remi to show the fox the recording the doctor sent to his phone, but stopped himself from doing so at the last moment.
Was it really a good idea to treat Remi human-like in front of the squirrel doctor, Kade’s subordinate? Unless it was normal to show ultrasound photos and videos to your pets? Felix never had a pet before, so he wouldn’t know. Regardless, he would rather avoid doing anything that could look remotely suspicious. Even if he simply wanted to show off his pup to someone, anyone.
And Kade wouldn’t do. It wasn’t that he HATED the Alpha so much, but it felt just... awkward, to show his pup that he had with someone else to a man that had been trying to make him his mate.
So, Felix just slid his phone back into his pocket with a sigh, and went to open the door. "We’re done," he announced. "Thank you very much. You can take the equipment back now."
"Just this?" Kade tilted his head.
"What else?"
"Well, if you really want to thank me..." Kade drawled, giving Felix a meaningful look that made the Omega groan, "Then you will go have breakfast with me. My treat. I just want your company."
Now it was Felix’s turn to be surprised.
"Huh?" He blinked a few times, staring at Kade. "Just this?"
"Well, of course, if you want, we can always-"
"Breakfast sounds fine!" Felix quickly cut Kade off.
Only to regret it a second later. Why was he going along with Kade’s wishes again? Wasn’t this examination supposed to be FREE?
However, now that he had already agreed, there was no point trying to back out.
"Just don’t get used to it," he only warned, throwing on his jacket as he waited for the driver to move all the equipment from his house back to the van.
To which Kade smiled widely in response. "Too bad, I already did!"
"..." Felix gave Kade a long, pointed look. And not a single word. He just put on his shoes in silence, and then stood by the door, watching the driver go back and forth with the equipment. He would have offered his help to make things quicker, but with his pregnancy, perhaps it wouldn’t be the best idea. As for Kade... He was a Young Master of a Supreme pack, such an idea probably didn’t even cross his mind.
Eventually though, the driver managed to stuff everything back in the van, and drove away, taking the squirrel doctor with him, and leaving Felix alone with Kade.
"Shall we?" the Alpha smiled, opening the car door wide for Felix.
Felix glanced inside, meeting Remi’s gaze as he hesitated for a moment. However, even putting Kade’s likely protests aside, it was unlikely that any restaurant would just let him bring a fox in, so he had no choice but to leave Remi alone, to get food for himself. He wasn’t a real pet, after all. If he wanted to, he could easily transform into his human form, and grab something to eat himself...
So, Felix nodded his head, and got in. He was kind of starving already, after going through all those tests.
Most restaurants were still closed, as it was still pretty early. After some deliberation, they settled on a small bakery. They ordered a selection of pastries, coffee for Kade, and hot chocolate for Felix, and sat down by the table in the corner of the tiny but cozy interior, with cherry wooden furniture and warm, dimmed lights. Perhaps not the healthiest choice for breakfast, but Felix was craving something sweet, so it suited him just fine.
"So," Kade started, sipping on his coffee as he pushed the nicest pastries toward Felix’s side. "A daughter, huh? Have you already decided on the name?"
