I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 50: Come With Me
Chapter 50: Come With Me
"...End what?" Kade asked, the tone of his voice carrying a hint of danger.
Felix’s wolf stirred. Whether it was because of Kade’s tone, or because it knew what Felix was going to say next, it was unclear, probably both to some extent. It didn’t matter anyway, since Felix only ignored it, focusing his whole attention on Kade, trying to sound calm and confident as he said,
"Our bond, of course."
For a moment, Kade looked like a predator about to attack. Felix was almost certain that he was going to jump on him, and... Well, he had no clue as to what the Alpha would do next. Nothing Felix would like, that’s for sure.
In the end, though, nothing happened. Kade just stood all tense, dark and menacing for a minute or two, and then suddenly relaxed. Forcing his lips to bend in something that was probably supposed to resemble a smile, as he lifted his brows and said, "So you admit there is a bond between us?"
A quiet sigh escaped Felix’s lungs. "We both already know the truth anyway, no?"
What was the point in continuing to deny it, when it was obvious it wouldn’t work? Not that Felix wasn’t tempted to try, but... Now that he knew that Kade wasn’t cruel enough to kill him, at least not now, not because of his pregnancy, it was best to just try to have an open, honest discussion. Then they could negotiate the...
"Since you know we’re fated mates, why are you still running away?" Kade asked, interrupting Felix’s thoughts before the Omega could come up with an idea on how to lead the conversation.
Was any complicated idea even needed, though? Wasn’t it obvious now why they couldn’t, or shouldn’t, be together? Even, or especially, from Kade’s point of view?
"I’m pregnant with someone else," Felix reminded. As if they haven’t just made that clear a few minutes ago.
Kade nodded his head in response. "I am aware."
...Just this?
Seeing Felix’s blank, confused gaze, Kade let out a sigh. "Well, I can’t say I’m excited about it. But what can I do? I can’t just get rid of your pup, unless you want me to."
Felix’s arms wrapped protectively around his stomach clearly showed that no, he absolutely DID NOT want Kade to.
"You can just reject me," he pointed out, still shielding his stomach. "You can do much better than a pregnant rogue. I don’t understand why you haven’t done that right away!"
"What if I don’t want to do better?"
"Ugh, why are you so stubborn?!"
"Right back at you."
They both went silent, breathing fast, agitated, staring each other down. Even now, when the big secret was revealed, they still somehow ended up at a standstill.
Truly, weren’t they just a terrible match? So what if they were fated, so what if there was a deep, instinctive attraction between them, caused by the pull from their bond. How could they possibly hope to have a peaceful, harmonious life as a couple, if they couldn’t even agree on such a simple issue?
Well, said ’simple issue’ was whether they should be together or not, but that was not the point.
Just as Felix thought, the fated mate bond couldn’t be relied on!
"Come with me to the Bloodmoon Pack," Kade eventually said.
"No." Without even a hint of hesitation, Felix instantly refused.
"I’m not telling you to seal the bond with me right away. But wouldn’t it be easier for you to leave in a pack? Especially now that you’re pregnant. You wouldn’t have to worry about the money, you would get everything you need, and professional health care, and once you gave birth, you could just focus on raising your pup."
"Just focus on raising my pup?" Felix lifted his brow, scoffing. "Does that mean you would stop bothering me?"
"Well... About that..."
"No, never mind," Felix shook his head. There was no need to ask such a question. Especially since it wasn’t the reason for his refusal - if he just had to endure Kade flirting with him, then that was still alright, even if the Alpha was a bit annoying sometimes, but...
"How do you think my pup and I would be treated there?"
"Huh?" Kade blinked twice, taken by surprise by the question. "Of course, you would be treated well! I would make sure you are well taken care of, and wouldn’t allow anyone to bully you!"
A mirthless chuckle escaped Felix’s throat. As expected, someone like Kade had no idea. Ever since he was a child, everyone around him must have been fawning over him, trying to earn his favor, so he couldn’t even begin to imagine what life was like for the... less fortunate ones.
Such as Felix. He was bullied as a child, before he became strong enough to defend himself, and even then, he was treated kind of like an outcast by most. And he was the son of the leader at the time, biological, and fully recognized. Even his mother, while looked down upon for being weak, was a member of the pack her whole life.
So, how would Felix’s pup be treated, an illegitimate child of an outsider, a rogue who abandoned his former pack? Kade might have been able to stop any obvious bullying, but he wouldn’t be able to stop anyone from treating the pup with disregard!
And something like that could be felt by the target of such treatment. And it could sting.
So, no, Felix still believed he could take better care of his pup on his own!
Feeling Kade slowly shift closer, Felix took a deep breath, before calling, "Remi! Come here! We have an unwanted guest!"
"...Huh?" Kade paused, with his hand lifted halfway, as he intended to either embrace the Omega or cup his face. But now there was a fox barking at him energetically, his voice sharp and high-pitched, truly unpleasant to the ear!
"Please leave." Felix crossed his arms, feeling more confident now that there was Remi standing in front of him. No matter how tiny the fox appeared next to Kade, at least he gave Felix the emotional support he needed!
"But..."
"Grrr..." Remi bared his teeth, while Felix repeated,
"Leave."
For a minute longer, Kade stood in place, unmoved. Eventually though, he decided to back away.
For now.
"...It’s late, you should go to sleep," he said calmly, as if trying to make it seem he was leaving out of his own will. "I’ll be back tomorrow."
"There’s no need."
"But I still will."
