I Would Rather Be a Rogue [BL] -
Chapter 51: A Fox or Not?
Chapter 51: A Fox or Not?
Kade did come the next day, just as he said he would. And early in the morning, at that.
"I won’t take long," he promised through the closed doors, "I just have a few things I need to say, and then I’m leaving you alone..."
And so, Felix reluctantly opened the door.
"You have three minutes."
"Fifteen."
"Five and a half," Felix compromised. He pulled out his phone and turned on the timer. "Now, go."
Kade lifted his brows, slightly amused by Felix’s precision, but since his time was so limited, he didn’t comment on that. Instead, so unlike him, he got straight to the point.
"I’ve decided not to bring up you joining the pack for now," he explained calmly. "I was a bit too rash yesterday, I understand that it is a big decision."
...Was it really that easy? Felix glared at Kade suspiciously, not believing the man had given up so fast, not without some ridiculous reasons and conditions.
And sure enough, Kade soon explained, "You’re pregnant now. Full of hormones, not thinking straight!"
Felix’s eyes twitched, but Kade ignored it. He was short on time, so he quickly continued, "So I won’t bring up our bond either, not until you give birth and recover. Sounds fine?"
Felix thought about it for a minute, and nodded his head. Such an arrangement suited him surprisingly well. He had been worried about what breaking the bond might do to his body and the pup, so it was in his best interest to postpone it... The only problem was that Kade would be waiting for a few months in vain. But, oh well, he was the one who proposed it, so he’d have no right to complain!
"Great! Now, the next thing. I would like to bring my guards back to Silverfall. Not to follow you around, no!" Kade quickly added, seeing the change in Felix’s expression. "Just to be stationed here. I would give you their number, so that if you’re ever in trouble, they will immediately come to assist you."
"...Fine," Felix agreed again. In the first place, the main reason why he was so against the guards was that his pregnancy would be discovered if they were still around, and now that Kade already knew, it no longer mattered.
"Great. Next, I would like to bring a doctor to examine you again. I know that there are doctors in Silverfall, but they’re not shifters, are they? It would be better to be taken care of by an expert, no?"
Once again, an invasion of privacy. It must have been Kade’s hobby, trampling over personal boundaries, huh?
But, all things considered, his argument made sense, so Felix reluctantly agreed.
What was the worst that could happen? Kade would find out that Felix was strong and healthy, and good for mating. And if he wasn’t? Then that would be an argument the Omega could use against him, to convince him to end their ill-matched bond!
"Amazing!" Kade clapped his hands, a wide grin stretching on his face. He didn’t expect the conversation would go so smoothly. It was perhaps the most concordant discussion they ever had!
Unfortunately, he wasn’t done yet, and the last part was much more serious. He paused for a moment, sniffing the air carefully...
"What are you doing?" Noticing the Alpha’s action, Felix tensed up.
"Checking something."
What could he possibly be checking in Felix’s house, other than someone else’s presence, or lack thereof? He must have been looking for Remi, and Remi was gone! He had sneaked out somewhere even before breakfast!
And Kade quickly confirmed this as well. "Listen, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about it for a while now," he said as he stopped sniffing, the tone of his voice growing more serious. "That pet fox of yours... Are you sure it’s really a fox?"
Ah, so that’s what it was about! Felix exhaled softly with relief. Outwardly, though, he lifted his brows, as he scoffed, "If not fox, then what? I didn’t know that in the Bloodmoon Pack the education level is so low that they can’t even distinguish common animals!"
"I know it LOOKS like a fox, OBVIOUSLY," Kade rolled his eyes, imitating Felix’s manner of talking, but a moment later, he turned serious again. "It might look like a normal fox, but its smell and behavior are... odd. Surely you must have noticed it as well?"
Of course Felix did. A long time ago. And he was... well, maybe not close to figuring it out, since he had no solid proof, but he had a lot of hunches.
But that was his personal problem. Remi was still his ’pet’, and no one else had any right to question him!
So, he simply answered, "Seems pretty foxy to me!"
"It could be a shifter," Kade just wouldn’t give up, to what Felix rolled his eyes.
"Do you know how rare fox shifters are these days?"
"So are mermaids, especially on land, and yet there is one in Silverfall!"
Kade had... a valid point. And it’s not like Felix didn’t consider such a possibility. But he had no intention of discussing it with the Alpha, so he deflected the topic,
"Is there even a mermaid in town, though? I got the blood from the witch, who could have obtained it elsewhere! Speaking of which, didn’t you have something to tell me about the blood yesterday?"
"Oh, well, about that." Kade paused. Truth be told, it was just an excuse he used to be let inside Felix’s house... But admitting it out loud probably wouldn’t do him any good, so instead he said, "The patient took one dose so far, and although his condition has improved, he’s not completely cured yet... The doctor is planning to administer the remaining three doses within the next few months, after observing the results."
...That was all?
Felix lifted his brows. Was it really necessary for Kade to come visit him just for that? It could very well be said on the phone. ’The thing you gave me helps,’ or something like that, problem solved!
Luckily, at that moment, his timer finally rang, saving him from having to continue the conversation.
"Your time is up," he announced, opening the front door wide, and gesturing at the Alpha to get out.
Kade glanced at the door, then at Felix, and sighed. "Fine. I’m in a rush anyway, I’ve only stopped by on the way... I have to attend to some pack business now, but I’ll arrange for the guards to come to Silverfall as soon as possible, and I’ll come again with the doctor, in around two weeks, probably!"
"Yeah, yeah, no rush." Felix tapped his foot impatiently. Although Kade behaved less inappropriately now, he still couldn’t wait to be left alone. For a very simple reason - in his mind, his wolf was pacing around and panting, stupidly wagging his tail and whining! And it was way too distracting! He couldn’t help but wonder if the Alpha’s wolf was also so unruly. If so, he could almost forgive the man for his unbearable touchiness and clinginess!
Almost. But not when he took advantage of Felix lowering his guard for a second to sneak a quick kiss on his cheek! Felix instantly waved his hand, wanting to swat Kade away, but the man was already down the porch, getting into his car, and laughing merrily, proud of his success.
Ugh.
