I Want to Die, But I Am Immortal
Chapter 99: Blash (3)

Chapter 99: Blash (3)

Adam knew this was his chance. He could use their panic to create even more chaos more confusion. He could turn them all against each other. It was the perfect storm and he was the one directing it.

"Look more people are dying!" someone screamed from the panicked crowd on the ground floor. "Hurry do something!"

The men on the walkway above fired another long burst of warning shots into the factory’s high ceiling. "Stay where you are!" one of their leaders shouted his voice amplified by the cavernous space. "No one moves until Johnny bro gives the order!"

But their attempts to restore order only fueled the flames of paranoia. They continued to argue shouting threats and accusations back and forth.

The men on the ground believed they were being set up. The men on the balcony saw a mutiny brewing.

In the midst of this escalating chaos Adam raised his silenced pistol. He took aim at a random mercenary in the crowd a man who was shouting louder than anyone else. He fired a single shot. The bullet struck the man in the head and he fell to the floor instantly his words cut off mid-sentence.

Adam used the ensuing confusion to fire six more shots in quick succession.

He was a phantom a ghost in the machine. Six more men fell their bodies hitting the floor with a series of dull thuds. The sight of their comrades dropping dead for no apparent reason pushed the remaining men over the edge.

That was the final straw. The dam of their fragile discipline broke. The men on the ground floor raised their own automatic rifles and aimed them at the men on the balcony.

The fragile alliance had shattered completely. They were no longer a unified force. They were just a mob a collection of scared and angry men all pointing guns at each other.

And then they opened fire.

The men on the ground floor unleashed a furious torrent of bullets at the men on the balcony. The air filled with the deafening roar of automatic weapons.

The men on the balcony fell one by one their bodies tumbling over the railing to the factory floor below a grotesque rain of death.

The men on the balcony returned fire. They had no choice. It was kill or be killed. The factory erupted into a full-blown firefight a chaotic storm of lead and death.

The fragile alliance had completely shattered. They were no longer a unified force. They were a mob a collection of scared and angry men all pointing guns at each other.

Adam saw his opportunity in the midst of the chaos. He saw two large pieces of machinery standing close together. They formed a small pocket of cover a temporary sanctuary from the storm of bullets.

He knew it would protect him from the gunfire from the balconies on three sides. He ran towards it his movements a blur. A few other men were already hiding there their faces pale with terror trying to escape the crossfire.

Two bullets slammed into his back as he ran. But his Iron Skin held deflecting them harmlessly.

He reached the machines. The men hiding there saw him coming and raised their own guns to fire at him. They saw him not as a fellow survivor but as another threat.

But he was faster. He shot all three of them before they could even pull their triggers their bodies slumping to the floor.

He ducked behind the machines. He was safe now from three sides. Only one balcony posed a threat the one where he had been shot in the back. He raised his automatic rifle and returned fire unleashing a relentless stream of bullets at the men above.

They fired back their bullets ricocheting off the metal machinery around him. A few rounds found their mark but they just bounced off his Iron Skin clattering uselessly to the floor.

Adam continued his relentless fire ignoring the bullets that bounced harmlessly off his skin. He emptied his magazine into the men on the balcony.

Thirty men fell under his assault their bodies riddled with bullets. He had cleared the entire upper level.

More men from the ground floor started to charge up the stairs their numbers overwhelming the few remaining defenders on the balcony.

The men on the balcony broke and ran fleeing into the side rooms for cover. The men from the ground floor pursued them their bloodlust ignited. The factory had descended into a chaotic free-for-all.

Adam waited for them to kill each other. He would let them thin their own herd. Then he would attack the other building where Johnny was hiding.

But his biggest concern was still Sophia. How could he save her from this inferno? He needed a plan a way to get her out before it was too late.

But before he could formulate a plan a massive explosion rocked the factory.

The shockwave threw him against the heavy machinery. His ears were ringing a high-pitched squeal that drowned out all other sounds.

Another explosion followed then another. A chain reaction had started. The factory was on fire flames spreading rapidly through the old building.

He realized then what was happening. The large metal cylinders he had seen in the storeroom were scattered throughout the factory.

They were filled with some kind of flammable gas. The stray bullets from the firefight must have ignited one of them setting off a catastrophic chain reaction.

The two large machines he was hiding behind also had gas cylinders attached to them. He saw the flames licking at their sides. He knew what was coming.

They exploded simultaneously.

Adam was unprepared for this outcome and was unable to respond. Therefore, he closed his eyes and accepted his fate.

The force of the blast was immense a wave of pure destructive energy. Adam was killed instantly his body vaporized in the fiery inferno. The world went black. There was no pain no thought no feeling. Just an endless empty void.
