I Want to Die, But I Am Immortal -
Chapter 100: Blash (4)
Chapter 100: Blash (4)
The familiar blue system window materialized before Adam in the endless black void.
[Host has died.]
[Congratulations. Host has eliminated another 80 people. Host will receive a reward.]
[Host is being revived.]
Adam’s eyes snapped open. He was back in the hospital room the sterile white ceiling the faint smell of antiseptic. He did not waste a single second.
He jumped out of the bed and ran to the window. He threw it open and leaped out without a moment’s hesitation.
He was on the third floor. He fell through the air his hospital gown flapping around him. He landed in the soft manicured grass of the hospital garden below. He tucked and rolled absorbing the impact of the fall with a practiced ease. He sprang back to his feet completely uninjured.
He started to run. He scaled the hospital’s high boundary wall with a single effortless leap and headed back towards the factory district.
He was still wearing the thin hospital gown but he did not care. His only thought was to get back to the factory to try again.
The system window appeared before him again as he ran its blue light a familiar companion on his lonely journey. He did not even bother to read the full message.
"Give me all the stat points," he commanded his voice a low growl.
The window flickered and changed displaying his updated status bar. He saw that only 40 stat points had been added to his attributes this time. He was surprised. Is it giving me fewer points the more people I kill? he wondered.
The diminishing returns were a new and unwelcome development.
But he could still feel the subtle increase in his power a familiar warmth spreading through his limbs. He dismissed the window with a thought and kept running.
He reached the factory district again. He stood across the street from the building where he had just died his mind racing. I made a mistake last time, he thought a cold determination settling in his heart.
But this time I’ll use it to my advantage. He had not known about the gas cylinders inside the factory before. He had not known they were powerful enough to destroy the entire building.
But now he did. And he had a new plan. A plan that was far more ruthless far more destructive than anything he had conceived of before. He would not just kill them. He would erase them from existence.
Adam entered the storeroom the same way he had before through the shattered window. This time when he saw the stacks of large metal gas cylinders he smiled a cold predatory smile.
He knew what he had to do.
He did not need to provoke them. He did not need to start a chaotic firefight. He had a much more elegant a much more destructive solution.
He walked over to two of the cylinders and with a practiced ease opened their nozzles just a little. A slow steady hiss of flammable gas began to escape into the enclosed space.
He set the flow rate carefully.
He estimated it would take about fifteen or twenty minutes for the room to fill with enough gas to become a volatile explosive mixture. He was setting a timer a countdown to oblivion.
He tied the dark cloth around his head again covering his face and hair. He then knelt down and rubbed handfuls of dirt and grime from the floor onto his thin hospital gown staining it and making it look filthy.
He smeared more dirt on his hands and arms completing his disguise. He was no longer a hospital patient. He was just another one of the hired thugs.
He took his automatic rifle from his inventory and walked out of the storeroom. He went to each of the other rooms along the corridor. He found more gas cylinders in each one just as he had suspected.
He opened their nozzles as well setting them all to the same slow steady release. He was turning the entire building into a giant ticking time bomb.
Every room was now a potential epicenter of a massive explosion. He was not just planning to kill them.
Adam finished his grim work in a matter of minutes. He moved through the building with a silent deadly efficiency opening the nozzles on every gas cylinder he could find.
He even went down to the crowded ground floor moving like a ghost through the oblivious mercenaries.
He tampered with the cylinders attached to the machinery there setting them to an even slower release so that the men standing right next to them would not notice the faint smell of leaking gas.
He returned to the storeroom the point of his infiltration.
He took off the dirty cloth from his head and wiped the grime from his face with the back of his hand. He climbed out the window dropping silently to the ground below.
He had armed his bomb. Now all he had to do was wait for the right moment to light the fuse.
He walked around to the front of the old factory the one where Sophia was being held. The last time he had come here he had been a prisoner a lamb being led to the slaughter.
This time he was the executioner.
He had not wasted any time at the hospital. He had not gone to Sophia’s house.
He had come straight here. He checked his watch. It was only 6:30 PM. He was well ahead of schedule.
He walked towards the main entrance of the old factory. The guards outside raised their guns when they saw him approaching. But they recognized his face.
They were the same men who had been stationed here in the previous loop. They were surprised to see him but they did not stop him. They led him inside just as they had been instructed to do.
Johnny was sitting in his familiar armchair playing a game on his phone. He looked up when Adam was brought before him. He was surprised by his appearance.
Adam was still wearing the thin hospital gown but it was now covered in dirt and grime. He looked like he had just crawled out of a construction site.
The men guarding him looked at him with a mixture of concern and confusion their expressions a mirror of Johnny’s own bewilderment. They did not know what to make of this strange disheveled boy.
