I Want to Die, But I Am Immortal -
Chapter 98: Blast (2)
Chapter 98: Blast (2)
Adam decided to use their carelessness to his advantage. He moved through the crowded ground floor a shadow among the oblivious mercenaries. He saw a group of three men standing with their backs to him engrossed in a loud conversation.
With his stats now soaring well over 450 his agility and strength were on a completely different plane than these ordinary hired guns. He was a wolf and they were sheep.
He held the automatic rifle in one hand cradled against his chest. His face was still covered by the makeshift mask. He casually lowered his other hand to his side.
The crowd was so dense so noisy that his small movements went completely unnoticed. He summoned his combat knife from his inventory. The cold steel materialized in his hand instantly its weight a familiar comfort.
He stepped silently behind the three men. His knife was a blur a silver streak in the dim factory light. He slit all three of their throats in a single fluid impossibly fast motion.
His speed was so immense that they did not even know what had happened. They did not even feel the razor-sharp blade as it severed their arteries.
They just looked at each other with confused expressions as their strength left them. Then they crumpled to the floor their lives ending before they even realized they were under attack.
Adam moved away before the bodies even hit the ground. He melted back into the crowd a silent predator. He stepped behind another group of two men who were laughing at a crude joke. He repeated the process.
Two more fell. He moved again.
Three more. He was a phantom a whisper of death moving through the crowded room.
He struck at their throats a fatal blow that left no room for survival. There were no screams no shouts no signs of a struggle. Just the soft thud of bodies hitting the concrete floor.
One by one the armed men in the crowd began to fall. The people standing near them the unarmed club staff the low-level thugs they looked on in confusion.
They saw their comrades suddenly collapse their eyes wide with a final silent surprise. They did not understand what was happening.
They thought their friends were fainting from the heat or from drinking too much. The idea that they were being systematically slaughtered in the middle of a crowded room was too fantastic to even consider.
At first they did not know what was happening. They just saw their comrades suddenly collapse their eyes wide with a final silent surprise.
But then they saw the blood. It poured from the throats of the fallen men a dark crimson river that stained their clothes and the dusty concrete floor.
A man screamed. The sound was sharp and piercing a single note of terror in the noisy factory.
Then another person screamed. The screams spread through the crowd like a virus a wave of panic and terror that washed over the entire room.
Everyone’s attention was drawn to the growing number of bodies on the floor. In that moment of collective confusion and horror Adam struck again.
He moved behind another group of unsuspecting mercenaries and slit their throats with his silent deadly blade.
More bodies fell. The panic intensified. The crowd became a mob a stampede of terrified people all trying to escape the unseen killer in their midst. They pushed and shoved each other their fear making them irrational and dangerous.
The ten men guarding the walkway to the other factory raised their automatic rifles. They were supposed to be the enforcers the ones who maintained order.
They fired a burst of warning shots into the air the sound of the gunfire deafening in the enclosed space.
"Everyone on the ground now!" one of them shouted his voice a desperate roar. "Stay where you are or we’ll shoot!"
But their words had no effect. The crowd was too panicked too terrified to listen to reason. They saw the men with the rifles not as protectors but as another threat.
"You brought us here to die!" someone screamed from the crowd a man with a wild look in his eyes. He raised his own pistol a weapon he had kept hidden and fired at the guards on the walkway. The shot went wide but it was enough. It was the spark that ignited the powder keg.
Adam smiled a cold predatory smile. His plan was working perfectly. He had turned them against each other. He had sown chaos and distrust.
And in the chaos he would find his opportunity.
His job had just become much easier. He could now move through the panicked mob with even greater ease a ghost in the storm of their own making.
"What nonsense are you talking about?" a man shouted down from the balcony above his voice booming over the panicked crowd. "Johnny bro brought us here! If you want to go against Johnny bro you know what will happen to you right?"
"You’ve already decided our fate!" another man screamed back from the ground floor his voice filled with a mixture of fear and defiance.
"You promised us a hundred thousand dollars! But you’re just making fools of us! You’re going to kill us all here! I don’t even think Johnny bro knows what you’re doing to us!"
The accusations and threats flew back and forth a chaotic symphony of paranoia and distrust. The mercenaries were turning on each other their fragile alliance shattered by the unseen threat in their midst.
Adam paid no attention to their arguments. He did not care about their petty squabbles. He was a force of nature a hurricane of violence moving through their ranks.
He continued his silent slaughter a predator in the heart of the panicked herd. His speed was so immense that he was a blur a ghost that no one could track.
He appeared behind two more unsuspecting mercenaries and slit their throats with his silent deadly blade before they even knew he was there. They crumpled to the floor their lives ending without a sound.
But he realized that his knife was not efficient enough. He was killing them one by one two by two but there were still hundreds of them left. It was taking too long. He needed a more effective weapon a tool that could sow even more chaos even more death.
He dismissed his knife back into his inventory. He summoned his silenced pistol. The cold steel of the weapon appeared in his hand instantly its weight a familiar and deadly comfort.
Now he was ready to escalate the slaughter.
