Chapter 39: The Spirit gem

Rhett fell to his knees and looked at the dragon, its body now luminous.

[YOU HAVE LEVELED UP!], appeared in front of him, in golden block letters and he squinted his eyes as he stared at it.

Immediately, his stats appeared in front of him.

NAME: KING RHETT

RANK: DRAGON SLAYER

[XP - 200]

[XP needed to Next level: 800]

Abilities: [PORTAL ASCENDER, GAZE KILLER]

He snapped his finger and his stats disappeared. Then, in slow steps he walked over to the dragon and crouched behind it, finding its spirit gem.

King vongarth ran from the terrace of the tower and downstairs towards where Rhett was. He ran like a mad man and that startled Rhett who now had to be fast and careful.

Touching the nose of the Ember dragon, Rhett heard a noise, it was sibilant and he stretched his neck backwards to find where it was coming from.

But it was not from his back, instead it was in front of him. Right in front was a gem, spirit like and Rhett smiled a bit at the sight.

It was the spirit gem alright and staring at it, Rhett felt pleased. King vongarth was now down the tower and was staring at him like a mad dog. Rhett looked into his face and seeing the rabid expression, he was almost afraid.

King vongarth suddenly smiled and walking slowly towards Rhett, he stretched his hands forward.

"Don’t touch the spirit gem ,move aside and let me do it".

Rhett looked at him indifferently, he knew what he was going to do and that he would do.

"I said step away!", King vongarth said on top of his face.

Dhamsel stared in fear, she sincerely didn’t want anything bad to happen to Rhett and she prayed inwardly that he survived this. Ash and Haicor only exchanged glances, they knew what Rhett would do and they hoped he would pull it off.

King vongarth, staring in bafflement at Rhett now, was very angry.

"This isn’t part of the deal. You are to slay the Ember dragon and let me take its spirit gem, you are to do as I say!".

Rhett was relatively calm, he almost smiled again but had to swallow it and he had a hard time doing that.

"I am not going against your will m’lord", he said and bowed slightly, raising his head up again and looking at King vongarth in mockery.

King vongarth chuckled. "Ha!, for a second I thought you were going to betray the deal".

Rhett chuckled also and made no response as he stared around him, looking at the guards and archers who were ready to attack him if he did otherwise as their king had bidded.

"Step away, king Rhett, step the hell away!," King vongarth ranted.

Rhett didn’t bulge and that infuriated king vongarth the more.

"I will not go against your will m’lord", Rhett began. "I plan on going around your will".

That didn’t quite ring a bell with King vongarth.

"Around my will?, what the hell do you mean!".

Rhett smiled. "I will possess the powers of the spirit gem!".

Before king vongarth could tell his guards, knights and archers to attack Rhett, they were already doing so.

Archers had fired arrows at him and guards and Knights were running his way, even King vongarth himself, his fat hands in gloves stretched forward.

Rhett quickly grabbed the spirit gem and clenched his fists, it within. And so, it happened.

WHOOOSH!

The wind escalated and it felt like a bomb had exploded. It felt like a nuclear explosion but in a windy way.

The explosion tilted King vongarth backwards and it did so to knights and the archers. Even Ash, Haicor and Dhamsel on the terrace, it made them stagger backwards.

The place around Rhett was dusty and he was hidden in it. The dust like an avalanche had fallen from the skies. King vongarth goggled at the scene, his face like a frog that had just drank a bottle of cold soda. It felt twisted, a grimace, a frown, a gap, a gasp, all muddled in one big fat face resulting in a hideous and ’quite’ very extremely ugly face.

The knights stared in awe, the guards and archers also. Dhamsel’s face was in complete shock, she hadn’t expected this from Rhett and seeing him do it, it felt visually stunning. Ash and Haicor exchanged glances once again, except this time, it was shocked ones. They hoped Rhett was safe.

The dust was beginning to clear and Ash looking at it, expected something good. He hoped Rhett was alive and if he is, he hoped he would come out in a stronger form because he knew he was roasted if he didn’t, the dragon hunters were ready to rip him apart.

The dust cleared and the sight appeared. Out of the dust in it’s foggy nature came Rhett, in a more stylish royal attire. It was blue in colour, golden blue. A cloak hung on his back and he was also clothed in leather trousers, ones that looked very demure. Encased in his feets was a stylish looking shoe, one that looked expensive.

King vongarth froze, he couldn’t believe his eyes, he was tempted to start running away but to where exactly. He didn’t actually have anywhere to run to. This was his kingdom and as a result of his cunning and deceitful nature, he had no life outside his kingdom.

Rhett paused and then golden block letters appeared in front of him.

[NEW RANK UNLOCKED: BEHEMOTH]

Rhett smiled, he relished this scenario. Two guards, not intimidated by his new sight, ran over to him, raising their swords in the air.

Rhett was amused by this and he only paused and gazed intently at them and they slumped to the ground, obviously dead.

[FIRST ABILITY USED, GAZE KILLER, SECOND ABILITY REMAINING], block golden letters appeared in front of him.

Rhett looked at King vongarth and gave out a sinister smile, then he said:

"What do we do now?".
