Chapter 38: Fighting the Ember Dragon [3]

Chapter 38: Fighting the Ember Dragon [3]

"You defeated me at the battle stadium, but now I will defeat you!", Mychel roared into Rhett’s face.

Rhett breathed hardly, his face a grimace of shock.

He didn’t know what to say or do at that point, he only stared blankly into the face of his opponent which was a gnarl, like a wolf or some hungry beast.

"How-, how-, how did you do it", Rhett asked, his voice faint and weak. "I thought you had died".

Mychel laughed. "I changed. I left the damn demon slayers and became a new slayer, a bit of both. This Ember dragon of mine possesses some rare attributes of demon beasts".

Rhett’s face remained indifferent. He was thinking, how to get out of where he was, what to do, a skill, something to save his life.

"I had to slay one of the greatest demons to achieve this rank. I had to sacrifice losing my friends. Getting away from my kingdom and betraying them. And note, now I’m different, I’m no longer who had earlier fought and won. I’ve-, I’ve -, I’ve evolved. And now, I will not only slay you as revenge but at least level up by slaying the king of the dragon slayers".

Rhett kept thinking, while staring at the face of Mychel who continued to press the sword harder into his chest. It felt like he didn’t do something right about now, he would be thrust into by the sword.

’Fear is the mind killer’, he mumbled. ’Fear is a piece of crap!’.

Mychel paused his act of thrusting the sword and stared at Rhett in bemusement, although he had been earlier staring at him, he thought it would be more caution worthy to stare at him again.

"What", he said with a smile. "No one is going to save you". He looked up and pointed, with the hand he wasn’t using to hold the sword, upwards and said:

"See, the Ember dragon is still pouring fire from its mouth. There’s no one to save you, no one will dare walk into this fire to save you, no one will-".

Rhett raised his right hand and smiled. "Hush!, I will save myself".

Mychel grimaced and a sweet thick and tooth cracking punch went into his face. He fell backwards and Rhett stood up, kicking him in his stomach and sending him to fall inside the fire.

"My goal is beyond this, my goal is to crush everything in my way and lead my kingdom to paradise. My goal is to dominate my world and take revenge on my oppressors and even though I’m far from that, you too are far from survival", Rhett exploded.

The fire was burning Mychel and he was screaming and removing his clothes to escape the pain and to save his life. His sword had fallen when he reeled into the fire and Rhett picked it up.

Mychel, almost all his clothes off his body, stared at Rhett in shock as he walked through the fire and up to him.

The knights, the archers, the guards and even Ash, Haicor, Dhamsel and King vongarth all watched in shock. The guards, knights and even the archers had stopped what they were doing and were looking at Rhett in shock.

Rhett held the sword by the tip and dragged on the ground with him, his face a frown. Mychel moved back on the ground and stared upwards at the Ember Dragon who for some reason had stopped firing fire from its mouth, it was now going haywire and out of control.

"I won’t stop at slaying dragons alone", Rhett said and that made Mychel to panic as he stood up and raised his right hand, swerving it at Rhett who ducked and in similitude, thrust the sword into the stomach of Mychel who grunted, blood escaping from his mouth.

Rhett watched him fall to the ground and he brought his sword out of his belly before he did. Watching him slump to the ground, Rhett looked away and walked towards the dragon now.

King vongarth was sort of appalled by this, he turned to Ash. "I thought your king was nice, why is he suddenly ruthless".

If Ash had been a demigod or the king himself, he would have given King vongarth such a slap his face would have rotated backwards like an owl’s.

"Isn’t he supposed to slay the rider?", Ash said to King vongarth. "You bid him to slay a damn Ember dragon and him slaying the rider you say he is ruthless?, pathetic indeed".

King vongarth made no response to that and continued to watch the scene.

Rhett paused, and staring at the dragon he whistled and snapped his fingers. He had heard about controlling dragons but he actually didn’t know how to do so, but as his late grandfather had also told him when he was a kid, it’s not too late to learn, and he was going to do just that.

Rhett sidewalked, his hands on the sword, in a grip, his face ruthless. He had learned to adapt to conditions, when it called to be ruthless, he would do just that and when it called to be nice and soft and tender?, he was of course going to adapt.

The Ember dragon howled and in a rush of pure adrenaline, it came down towards Rhett who remained calm and breathed in and out, his face still stern and now determined.

The dragon came, he watched, it kept coming, he kept watching, it kept coming the more, he kept watching, it came very fastly, he now jumped, more of a leap by the way.

They could only watch, the scenario felt golden, Rhett jammed his teeth together hardly and with all his might, the dragon out of balance hitting the ground and bouncing back to him, he striked his sword at it and slayed it by the neck.

It bounced back on the ground and fell, a loud cry escaping from its mouth. Rhett, falling down and landing on his feet, his sword full of blood, heard a loud cacophony of heavenly like sounds and then, in front of him were golden letters, written in blocks:

[DAMN!, YOU HAVE JUST SLAYED AN EMBER DRAGON!]
