Chapter 37: Fighting the Ember Dragon[2]

Rhett gritted his teeth so hard it felt like it would break into pieces. The dragon flew over him, the rider of the dragon with the quite gigantic sword waving it in a whooosh!, aimed at him.

Rhett muffled his shout and quickly lunged sideways, to his left and the sword aimed at his head, bruised the ground and made a big line mark on it.

Rhett stood up and braced himself for the dragon. He didn’t care the consequences, he was going to slay it. He breathed heavily as he watched the dragon roll round, coming at him now.

Rhett knelt, and when I mean knelt I mean he knelt with motion, taking himself to slid on his knees forward. Like some footballer celebrating a goal, instead, his was in attack.

He held his sword up, the dragon coming at him in a nosedive, him submerging himself at it. And so when the dragon was now over him, nearer to him he could almost feel their skin to skin, he plunged his sword upwards and it, in a very swift motion, hit the dragon by the side of it’s belly.

The rider of the dragon retaliated by hitting it’s own sword towards the head of Rhett who ducked and rolled on the ground, bracing himself up again for another challenge.

"You shall die you little brat!", the voice of the rider, a growl following it.

Rhett squinted his eyes, he stared at them, radiating all the fear he could into them. His aim was to spook the dragon and it’s rider by his mere stare and make it look as if he was ’too’ tough, which he agreed wasn’t working on them now.

"I shall slay you and rip this damn kingdom apart", said the dragon rider. "Or should I say, rip this damn village apart. I and my dragon were alone, and then we were summoned. The summoning came as a sort of invitation, calling my dragon to come attack this village so it can level up and I, as it rider can attain more power".

Rhett wanted to pee so badly now, but he tried to keep it in.

The rider continued, his dragon breathing very hardly it felt to Rhett like he was in a hall filled about twenty two air conditioners.

"And now, here I am, ready to rip this kingdom apart and you’re in my way?, haha!, you’re nothing. I will rip you apart. I will-".

Rhett’s sword was off his hand, flying over to the dragon’s eyes and entering it. The dragon reeled back and gave out a loud scream of pain. Rhett capitalize on that and so he ran at the dragon, removing his sword from it’s eye and thrusting it at the other.

The dragon rider had to shout now. "My sweet dragon!, oh my-".

Rhett somersaulted and kicked him by the stomach, he staggered off the dragon and fell to the ground. Rhett climbed on it and took the ropes that controlled it, wriggling it, making the dragon to leap in flight, a loud cry escaping from it’s mouth.

Rhett swerved him backwards and now he was heading to king’s vongarth palace, breaking the walls and soon completely demolishing it.

King vongarth wanted to yell and whine like a goat about his ’ precious’ palace, but he didn’t, instead he watched in admiration, Rhett was defeating the dragon and the best part was, he was riding it while doing so.

The rider of the dragon was now running, following Rhett and his dragon from down, from the look of it, his deep voice and his disposition, he was male.

He cursed under his breath as he ran, dozens of guards after him. Well, now he was running for his life and also trying to save his dying dragon.

Rhett, on the dragon wasn’t having much difficulty controlling it, although it resisted at times, it wasn’t such a biggie.

"Stop right there!", the guard knights shouted in unison. Their swords forward, pointing at the rider.

Dhamsel twisted her face as one that wanted to cry.

"Father!", she said to King vongarth who now turned to stare at her. "You summon an Ember dragon to rip your kingdom and kill innocent lives just so you can attain your selfish needs?, the rank of immortal?".

King vongarth smiled, he was having such a splendid view on the terrace of the tower and being interrupted by his daughter to him was nonsense.

"To attain power, I do the unthinkable. It’s high time you acknowledge that, okay dear?", he said.

Dhamsel had made to reply with an objection but the shout of Haicor disrupted her.

"Rhett is going to fall!".

Ash froze and immediately ran nearer to king vongarth on the terrace, squinting his eyes to look at Rhett who was holding to the ropes as the dragon flew up and down, not knowing where to go as it was blind.

Before they all could blink, Rhett’s hands had slipped off the rope and he was falling down. Haicor panicked and then quickly whistled and then, pigeons from nowhere flew very briskly towards Rhett, carrying the speed of a Peregrine falcon.

They used their beaks to hold onto the edges of Rhett’s cloth. He still fell but slower and still landed with a...

THUD!

But less painful.

The pigeons fluttered away to the skies and Rhett, struggling to stand up, received a kick to his jaw. He reeled back downwards and landed with another...

THUD!

Only this time it was more painful.

It was the dragon rider, a sword on his hand which he pressed slowly onto the belly of Rhett, still in the Knight’s armour.

Rhett, in his seething pain, identified the sword as one that could pierce into Knight armours. It looked at the one he used to defeat the demon slayer at the battle stadium.

Hell!, this was bad. He looked to the skies and saw the dragon breathing fire from his mouth in a circle at them, encircling them.

Knights that were supposed to come to his rescue stepped back and Rhett had to gulp the air. Ash, Haicor, Dhamsel and even King vongarth was now panicking.

’My immortal rank is gone’, king vongarth thought.

The rider drew the hood of his cloak backwards and said in a cool, mesmerizing voice:

"I will slay you alright, I will take revenge".

Rhett gasped, this wasn’t looking good, the Ember dragon rider was Mychel, who he had earlier known as a demon slayer and the opponent he had defeated at the battle stadium.
