Chapter 527: A Sword to Shatter the Earth

A few minutes earlier, Julius, Mathias, and Alice stepped inside a cold tunnel snaking through the mountain.

Each of their steps added to the oppressive silence as they all had the same conflicted expression knitting their brows and twisting their lips.

Especially for Julius.

After years of fumbling with his cultivation, he had finally found a teacher. One who cared about others and shared his other moral values. Yet, his apprenticeship would probably never start.

A heavy sigh escaped his lips, and tears pooled in his eyes at the thought.

Even if he just met the man, Lin Yao’s story made his heart throb painfully with each beating.

"Such loyalty to his friend..."

A soft mutter broke the silence as he closed his eyes and gritted his teeth.

"With all my heart, I hope you’ll survive and join us on the other side. If you don’t..."

His voice trailed off, yet a steely glint flashed in his hazel eyes.

"I won’t let you die in vain. I swear it. I’ll also do my best to find your friend and avenge you."

Truthfully? He hated The Beast Emperor after their two forced meetings. The terror and despair he felt before the man still haunted his nightmares and caused him to wake up covered in icy sweat.

But what could he do? Even now, he didn’t believe his own words. After all, who could beat the Earth’s fury? The world’s strongest archmage who broke free from his shackles because of his brother?

Reaching this question, his eyes lit up, and the tunnel’s cold wind whipped his clothes as he spoke to his brother.

"If Lin Yao holds on, the magus will soon show up! Archmages can’t fight. He made the rule himself!"

However, where he should have found relief and comfort, his enlarging eyes only saw a dark path... His brother hadn’t followed them.

"He said he’ll watch the battle. Don’t stop, junior disciple. I’ll teach you everything I know if... he doesn’t return."

Mathias’ voice echoed behind, his tone one of grief as he also didn’t believe in Lin Yao’s chances of survival.

As for the magus? That bastard never showed up in the past fifteen years. He would rather believe chickens had teeth than place his hopes in this mysterious individual.

Meanwhile, Julius’ face paled, and distress jolted his shoulders.

Still, he continued, the tunnel’s darkness engulfing him with Alice and the kind Mathias holding her trembling shoulders to comfort her.

"Why are you always doing dangerous things, big brother?"

******

Simultaneously, the magus’ eyes snapped open behind the mysterious veil covering his features.

With little interest, his gaze pierced kilometers of rocks and hundreds of thousands of land to observe Lin Yao and The Beast Emperor’s face off.

"Have fun, little one, for I almost found the last key... to unlock this shining prison."

A smirk deformed his features as he closed his eyes again, a final sentence lingering under rhe City of Rose.

"You’ll understand why legendary creatures aren’t storming the lands, why our world is so small, and how foolish your rebellion against me is."

******

Meanwhile, The Beast Emperor’s roar sent Lin Yao’s hair fluttering backwards.

The pressure collapsed on the cultivator’s body, impeding his lethal slash and assaulting his brain through his eardrums.

A grimace twisting his lips, he lept back.

Landing on the rising ground, he frowned as the image of an overbearing creature flashed in his mind.

Still, he had no time to waste thinking about the behemoth or how the emperor used its abilities. The second tier-seven individual he had felt still lingered behind, waiting for an opportunity to strike. Therefore, it wasn’t a matter of wanting. He HAD to kill the emperor in a unique yet devastating strike.

He inhaled sharply, the air rushing through his nostrils and circling his lungs as his abundant Qi flooded his meridians like a raging river.

Then, he leapt high into the sky. Hand tightly gripping his sword’s jade pommel, he used the only tier seven technique he had developed after reaching that rank fifteen years ago.

"Di."

Fire, water, wood, metal and earth Qi mixed and compressed inside his Dan Tian in an incredible harmony.

The result emerged from his hand and coursed through his sword. Scalding arcs danced along the glinting edges in a symphony of sizzling noises as he raised his arm above his head.

Sizzle accompanied the movement as the air evaporated in swirling white mists.

"Lie!"

As he roared his technique’s name, the air seemed to cry and tear with his swing.

Before the emperor’s trembling eyes, a sword light dwarfing the mountains behind him formed and left the blade’s tip.

With furious abandon, it closed in mercilessly towards him. The vision of the impact already formed in his racing mind: his body would be cleaved in two bloody halves.

Yet, his eyes narrowed into determined slits as brown mana surged from his heart. Like a tsunami, it swirled for a split second, then shaped itself into a colossal golem under the emperor’s intricate commands.

Its forearms, the size of a village and weighing more than two mountains, reached for the sky and the attack, casting a shadow running several kilometers on the ground.

BOOM

The golem’s feet sank into the ground under Lin Yao’s strike. The pressure of the sword light on its forearms sent fragments and dust flying everywhere as the noise of splintering rocks reverberated.

Then?

SHATTER

The sword light forcefully cut through the colossus, cleaving its arms like butter and continuing with its torso.

However, the mana construct had played its role. The attack slowed down for a split second, just enough for the emperor’s feline legs to bend and burst out of the strike’s trajectory with inhuman speed.

From the corner of his eyes, he observed the aftermath, hints of fear clawing at his confident heart.

If any archmage provoked him in a fight to the death, he would roar in laughter and claim none of them could threaten him. Yet, Lin Yao, a foreigner, did just that.

He gritted his teeth, his shoulder joints popping under his whitening knuckles’ because... for the first time in his life he felt danger, a danger so great that his breath caught in his throat as he watched the sword light dig into the ground, creating a several-kilometer-deep abyss.

Meanwhile, Adam gawked from the side, his mind spinning and his thoughts raging.

’The heck am I watching? Die Lie! Tear the earth? Really? Is he trying to sunder a continent?’

Even if it sounded like a joke... he believed Lin Yao had the power to do it.
