I Refused To Be Reincarnated -
Chapter 528: Earth’s Fury
Chapter 528: Earth’s Fury
The emperor’s fists twitched at the ridiculous emotions creeping into his heart like swarms of invaders trying to shatter his confidence and limitless pride.
His jaws clenched, his teeth cracked, and the earth rumbled under the colossal mana spewing like a hurricane from his trembling body.
More than ever, Lin Yao, I must kill you!
The thought thundered in his mind as he gazed at the youthful-looking man dropping from the sky.
Despite Lin Yao’s labored breathing and heaving chest, he would not grant him a moment’s respite. He would not allow him to unleash another devastating strike. Instead, he would extinguish this threat to his dreams of conquest.
He swung his fist upwards, roaring the spell that had made his name resound and filled people with dread, the same one he proudly wore as his archmage’s title.
"Earth’s Fury!"
The abyssal chasm, which wafted gas as if the earth breathed in agony, shifted under his exquisite control. Rocks condensed and assembled in the blink of an eye, their structures compressing to the limit as the mountainous region splintered and dust clouds rose everywhere in an apocalyptic scene.
Like a predatory eye gazing at its prey, a sharp glint sparkled in the earth’s depth before the air shrieked with its movements.
WOOSH
A colossal broadsword, burning with molten lava and glinting minerals, sundered the sky. Its shadow, as dark as night, blotted out the sun and covered half the country in a veil of horror.
Faced with the disproportionate spell, Lin Yao’s pupils constricted, and his blood chilled in his veins.
His muscles tensed as he gritted his teeth and channelled his Qi into his left fist.
BOOM
Wind blasted as he struck the air, propelling him to the side as the scalding broadsword grazed his clothes.
The magma spilt on his skin, raising smoke carrying the scent of burning tissues as his face contorted in a grimace of pain.
Heart drumming in his chest, he spun mid-air and landed on the devastated ground. Like a living being, wood Qi engulfed the liquid injuring him.
The vitality of nature, accompanied by a soothing sensation, licked his wounds, healing them with soft, sizzling noises.
"If not for the summoning spell!"
He gritted his teeth, lamenting the vote that caused half the world’s life force to vanish.
Worse, he was the one who broke the scale in the summoning’s favor, forsaking his cultivation after his recent breakthrough to protect the world he lived in.
He exhaled sharply, a slight tremor shaking his hand wrapped around his cold sword’s hilt as he analysed his condition.
He had used a fair amount of Qi with his failed strike, but the blade drew nature’s life force every second to replenish his reserves.
’Can I endure for two minutes?’
His eyes slipped from the emperor to the hiding Ossian.
’Probably not.’
Ossian’s insidious patience weighed on his mind more than what he wanted to admit. Each time his armor clinked or an abnormal gust blew in his direction, an icy shiver ran down his spine, and he forfeited a part of his focus to monitor the ambusher’s movements.
’I can’t let them pressure me. Even if I have to lose an arm, I’d rather fight two visible enemies.’
He steeled his heart with this thought, ready to pay a price to emerge victorious against all odds before he lunged towards the hiding figure.
As swift as the wind, the noise of his stomps echoed harmoniously with the eviscerated earth. In a green blur, he appeared behind the tall ghost emperor, his eyes landing on the intricately carved golden armor draping the ethereal limbs and the regal crown adorning the spectral head.
Simultaneously, the emperor’s feline legs dug deep trenches into the ground as he surfed on rocks like water and roared.
"Stay out of this Ossian! I’ll kill him myself."
However, this was what Lin Yao had aimed for.
His eyes flashed red, and his hips turned as he ignored the ghost in his attack range.
The two allies’ pupils constricted at the surreal decision. Yet, carried by his momentum and lacking time to cancel his spell, terror flashed in the emperor’s eyes.
Meanwhile, Lin Yao smirked, arcs of metal Qi dancing on his raised blade.
WOOSH
The intricate weapon cleaved the air, the depictions of mountains, rivers, and forests on its frame zooming in the emperor’s eyes. Without thinking, he raised his behemoth’s arms, the impact shoving them against his face and shattering his nose.
"ARGH!"
A feral roar of agony burst out of the emperor’s mouth as the blade dug into his arms, drawing a fountain of blood in its path, as it almost sliced them off.
However, Lin Yao’s feet trembled as the rocks supporting him turned into mud.
Like quicksands, they swallowed the wounded emperor and rained sharp rubles towards him.
Simultaneously, witnessing Lin Yao’s distraction and knowing he would press forward now that he held an advantage, Ossian finally moved.
Soul energy and mana engulfed his spectral form in a symphony of cracklings before they condensed into a horrible scythe.
’You have the numerical advantage? So what? I won’t let you defeat me!’
An inner snort pierced Lin Yao’s battle-focused mind. Without effort, he outstretched a palm towards the projectiles. Wind Qi blasted out, forming a wind wall roaring in their ears and repelling everything.
Simultaneously, he swung his other arm.
However, the resistance he had expected when his weapon met Ossian’s didn’t register.
Instead, it phased through his blade and zoomed into his eyes, ready to impale his skull.
’It ignores matter to strike souls!’
The realisation rumbled in his mind like a thunderclap.
Without wasting a second, he bent back ninety degrees with inhuman speed and agility.
The wind rushed to his face as the blade glinted a few centimeters above his eyes.
’Troublesome, but I’ve faced worse.’
Like a stretched rubber, his torso burst upward.
The wind battered his clothes as his arm roared to life and two eastern dragon heads formed on his fist.
"You’re still green for an archmage. Come back after a few decades of training!"
BAM
The dragons roared upon impact, crashing onto Ossian’s abdomen with his uppercut.
He heard the ghost’s pained gasp and saw his armor cave in before his body rocketed in the distance like a comet.
