I Really Am A Villain -
Ch. 352 - Truth of The Blood-Devouring Evil Race
Old Jade Village was not a particularly large village.
There were only a few hundred residents scattered around the village.
Two ancient poplar trees stood at the village entrance, their branches swaying gently in the breeze.
Xu Zimo and Death God Qin arrived in the village.
Most of the people in the village were ordinary mortals, and the strongest among them was only at the Spirit Meridian realm.
That Spirit Meridian realm warrior was the village chief, an old man in a blue robe named Gu Qingyun.
The two stayed at Gu Qingyun’s house.
The courtyard wasn’t big, and there were two side rooms in the backyard.
Once inside the side room, Death God Qin frowned slightly and asked Xu Zimo, “Stop keeping me in suspense. What’s really going on here?”
“There are countless races in the world, and the Blood-Devouring Evil Race is one of them,” Xu Zimo replied with a smile. “Long ago, the Blood-Devouring Evil Race was exiled because their race was too cruel. Just like their name suggests, they drink blood. And they need a large amount of blood to survive. This led to countless killings.”
Hearing this, Death God Qin fell silent for a moment and asked, “But what does this have to do with the Buddha Realm?”
“Later, the ancestors of the Blood-Devouring Evil Race used great magical powers to bring their race back from exile. Once they returned to the Primordial Heartlands, they immediately brought a storm of blood and slaughter. To get fresh blood, they killed countless living beings. Massacre and rivers of blood followed,” Xu Zimo replied.
“They even built an Ancient Realm and raised living beings inside it. Like fattened pigs waiting to be butchered when needed.”
“Wait, you mean, this sealed Ancient Realm we’re currently in?” Death God Qin quickly caught on.
“That’s right,” Xu Zimo nodded.
“At that time, the Sage Yicheng was preaching his Buddhist teachings. Saving the suffering and ferrying all beings. Later, he and his Buddhist followers resolutely entered the Ancient Realm. Thus began a long battle against the Blood-Devouring Evil Race. What happened afterward you already know. The Buddhist followers were annihilated, and Yicheng himself died in that battle.”
“Then the so-called evil spirits the villagers speak of, who are they?” Death God Qin seemed to have guessed something and asked.
“Naturally, it's Yicheng and his people,” Xu Zimo shook his head and said.
“After the Buddhists were defeated, with the propaganda of the Blood-Devouring Evil Race, they were portrayed as heroes protecting the Ancient Realm and established the Law Enforcement Hall. As for Yicheng and his people, they became evil spirits trying to corrupt the Ancient Realm.”
Death God Qin stayed silent for a moment, then finally asked, “I want to know what role Martial Magnificence Temple plays in all this?”
“Just a pitiful existence,” Xu Zimo shook his head. “They’re not important. A weak temple nobody cared about. Later, to gain popularity and power, for fame and status, they sold their souls to the darkness.”
Death God Qin slowly nodded. He had mostly understood now.
“So what do we do now?”
“I was originally planning to go directly to the Blood-Devouring Evil Race,” Xu Zimo said. “But now that the Buddha Realm has stepped in, I’ve changed my mind. Let them go first, we’ll just reap the benefits afterward.”
“I get it. So we wait,” Death God Qin nodded.
……
Over the next few days, Xu Zimo and Death God Qin lived relatively peacefully in Old Jade Village.
However, Chief Gu Qingyun remained cautious and often had people secretly watch them.
Xu Zimo also began to integrate into the village life.
He understood that the fate of these people was tragic.
Whether it was the adults who had begun cultivating or the newborn infants, from the very beginning, their fate was already sealed.
They didn’t even know anything.
They thought the Ancient Realm was a vast world of light.
Little did they know it was just a cage where they were raised like pigs to be slaughtered.
Xu Zimo asked the chief for a map of the surrounding area.
There were three cities near Old Jade Village, and over the past few days, Xu Zimo would often wander into them when he had nothing to do.
Finally, on the seventh day, he saw members of the Buddha Realm in a nearby city called Vast Violet City.
Among them was Liu Zongfang, people from Immortal Mortal Sacred Ground, and several other forces and rogue cultivators, hundreds in total.
They all seemed to understand the danger of the Burial Buddha Temple.
Instead of acting separately, they stuck together, following the instructions of Luminous Master.
Xu Zimo waited for Luminous Master to make his move.
He knew the Buddha Realm had a backup plan, but he didn’t know what it was.
Otherwise, given Luminous Master’s strength, entering this place would be suicide.
Whether it was Old Jade Village or Vast Violet City, each city had its own Law Enforcement Hall.
These people didn’t recklessly attack the Law Enforcement Halls, but instead began gathering all sorts of information on the Blood-Devouring Evil Race.
……
Xu Zimo didn’t disturb them and quietly returned to Old Jade Village.
The village had a very slow pace of life, and the atmosphere was peaceful.
Finally, on a chilly, leaf-falling morning in October, the usually quiet village suddenly became lively.
People bustled about, and the village was unusually noisy.
Xu Zimo and Death God Qin got up and went outside, stopping a villager to ask what was going on.
Only then did they understand.
The Law Enforcement Hall was recruiting enforcers in the village.
According to the information left by the Law Enforcement Hall, it was said that creatures from the outside world had always wanted to invade the Ancient Realm.
The peaceful life the people had now was all thanks to the sacrifices of the enforcers who fought on the front lines.
Thus, in the entire Ancient Realm, every enforcer was seen as a hero.
Due to the heavy casualties among enforcers, every three years the Law Enforcement Hall would recruit a large number of new enforcers across the Ancient Realm.
Hearing this, Xu Zimo scoffed.
“Enforcers? It’s just time to harvest the crops again.”
“What do you mean?” Death God Qin frowned.
“When the pigs are fattened, what do you think happens?” Xu Zimo asked.
“They’re slaughtered,” Death God Qin fell silent for a moment.
“The so-called fight against evil spirits, becoming enforcers, becoming heroes, all lies.”
Xu Zimo nodded slightly.
“When those full of passion and dreams arrive, they’ll only find a butcher’s knife waiting for them.”
Death God Qin stayed quiet and said no more.
What makes people human is that they are not heartless machines.
As long as they have a heart, there will always be a conscience.
Most people always act indifferent to things that don’t concern them.
Everyone just minds their own business. People like Sage Yicheng are rare.
If it weren’t for that particular item, Death God Qin wouldn’t be paying attention to this place either.
“Should we tell them the truth?” Death God Qin asked.
“Do you think they’ll believe you?” Xu Zimo chuckled lightly.
He shook his head and said, “I only believe in one truth.”
