I Really Am A Villain -
Ch. 353 - My Name Is Gu Ze, I Am A Hero!
“The only hero who can truly save you is yourself. There is no such thing as a savior in this world. Even if a savior does exist, they only save an era. Not an individual, or a specific group of people. Fate is in your own hands.”
As the two spoke, they had already arrived at the village’s largest open space.
At that moment, hundreds of villagers had gathered, surrounding the area.
Inside the circle stood three people wearing white robes.
Two men and one woman.
Their pure white robes swayed lightly in the breeze, with the word "Law" written on the back.
On their chests was a symbol of a sword and shield.
Xu Zimo could still hear the murmuring of the surrounding villagers.
“See the enforcer on the left?” a parent said to their child.
“That’s Lord Gu Ze. He also came from our Old Jade Village.
Now he’s become a great hero.
When you grow up, you should learn from him.”
The child nodded seriously, eyes full of hope.
The selection of enforcers had no strict standard.
Minors or unmarried people were excluded.
Xu Zimo understood why, these people still had the ability to reproduce.
The bred population had to maintain a balanced ratio of males and females, or the species would fall into imbalance.
The selection process for enforcers seemed very relaxed. As long as the basic conditions were met, one could become an enforcer.
By midday, over twenty villagers had already been selected and taken away.
The selection ended there. At the village chief Gu Qingyun’s enthusiastic invitation, the three enforcers agreed to stay for lunch before leaving.
During the meal, villagers bustled around in the house.
Xu Zimo slowly sat next to the table where the enforcers were seated.
He looked at the man named Gu Ze and smiled. “I heard you’re originally from this village?”
“Yes,” Gu Ze nodded slightly, giving Xu Zimo a puzzled look.
“You’re personally leading them to hell. Don’t you feel guilty?” Death God Qin asked from the side.
Gu Ze’s expression changed slightly, then said, “What are you talking about? I don’t understand.”
“Yes you do,” Death God Qin said calmly. “What awaits them is only death, becoming part of the blood supply needed by the Blood-Devouring Evil Race.”
Death God Qin’s gaze was cold as he looked at the three enforcers.
These Blood-Devouring Evil Race members were truly cunning!
To avoid arousing suspicion among the villagers and keep them living in a cradle of lies, they had someone from Old Jade Village do the recruiting.
The things Gu Ze said would surely be trusted by the villagers, since he was one of their own.
If a stranger came to recruit, the villagers would definitely be wary.
This method was likely used not just in Old Jade Village, but throughout the Ancient Realm.
“How do you know all this?” Gu Ze suddenly stood up, face darkened.
He drew the longsword at his waist and asked warily, “Who are you people?”
“We’re just passersby in this world,” Death God Qin said calmly. “What, angry now?”
Before Gu Ze could speak, Xu Zimo patted Death God Qin’s shoulder and shook his head.
“This has nothing to do with us. No one is truly a fool.”
“So we’re just letting it go?” Death God Qin looked at Xu Zimo and said quietly.
“I’ve decided to get involved in Old Jade Village. The villagers deserve to know the truth.”
Xu Zimo smiled and shook his head, then said no more.
Maybe the situation in Old Jade Village reminded Death God Qin of the past.
In those days of the Desolate Era, all beings lived like ants.
The three great races ruled over everything, it was a time when life was cheap and brutal.
Yet as members of the Dark Primordial Race, they always yearned to resist.
The humans of the Ancient Realm now seemed like a reflection of his own powerless past in that savage age.
……
“What’s going on?” Hearing the noise in the courtyard, the villagers quickly came out from the kitchen.
They saw Gu Ze with his sword drawn, coldly staring at Death God Qin.
“Lord Gu Ze, let’s talk this out. He’s new to our village, doesn’t know the rules,” Gu Qingyun said quickly.
“Maybe I should tell you all something,” Death God Qin said, taking a deep breath and looking at the people of Old Jade Village.
“You’re looking for death,” Gu Ze shouted, seeing that Death God Qin was about to reveal the truth. His expression changed drastically, and he slashed his sword.
But Gu Ze was only at the True Meridian realm.
With a cold snort from Death God Qin, without even moving, the sound echoed like thunder, and the three enforcers were instantly overwhelmed.
They coughed up blood, faces pale, and collapsed to the ground.
Everyone stared at Death God Qin in shock.
“What I’m about to say may be hard for you to accept. You might not even believe me, but I’m going to say it anyway,”
Death God Qin said calmly.
“This so-called Ancient Realm is nothing but a prison. And you are all food raised by a race called the Blood-Devouring Evil Race. Those sent off as so-called heroes are actually marching straight to death. As for Gu Ze, he’s just a lackey trained to maintain the lie.”
Hearing this, Gu Ze closed his eyes in despair.
Two lines of hot tears flowed from his eyes.
His chest heaved violently.
He raised his head and roared in fury.
……
My name is Gu Ze. I am a hero.
They said enforcers are heroes.
I was happy, this time, I was chosen as one of them.
I said goodbye to the villagers and followed the enforcers to that place I had dreamed of.
I thought it was the road to the holy sanctuary. I never realized what was waiting for me.
Scalding blood churned in a molten pit.
Flesh dissolved, bones melted, and agonizing screams filled the air.
One after another, people were pushed into the blood pool.
I stood at the end of the line, terrified, not knowing when my turn would come.
Monsters with sharp fangs and claws sat by the blood pool.
They drank the blood, gnawed on bones.
The crunching of bones and chewing of flesh echoed in my ears.
I was terrified. This wasn’t what a hero deserved.
Finally, it was my turn. I stood at the edge of the blood pool, the heat laughing at my ignorance.
I thought my life was over.
Then, a man in a blood-red robe appeared before me.
He asked if I was willing to become an enforcer agent.
What is an enforcer agent?
Gain the trust of people from your village or city and lead them here without hesitation.
In return, I would be allowed to live.
Even if it meant living in disgrace.
At least I wouldn’t end up like those pigs jumping into the blood pool, food for the monsters.
I agreed.
Maybe life was more important than anything.
Even though at first, I was full of guilt.
