Chapter 98: The Terrifying Encounter With Jean-Pierre

Lyse woke up with a start, her head pounding. She looked around and realized that she was in Levi’s room, on his bed, the soft sheets enveloping her in a comforting warmth. A wave of confusion washed over her as she tried to piece together the events of the previous day and how she ended up in his bed.

Then, the memory of the drugged drink, the dizzying sensation, and the terrifying encounter with Jean-Pierre flooded her mind. A wave of shame and disgust washed over her. She had been vulnerable, helpless and almost taken advantage of by a man without scruples.

Levi, sensing her distress, approached the bed. "You are awake," he said, his voice gentle. "How are you feeling?"

Lyse’s eyes welled up with tears and Levi sat on the edge of the bed and pulled her into his arms, keeping her in his comforting hold while she cried. "I... I don’t know," she stammered. "What happened to me?"

After a few minutes, he leaned away from her and heldher hand. "You were drugged, Lyse. Jean-Pierre intended to harm you."

A chill ran down her spine at the memory of Jean Pierre dragging her into that hotel room and ripping her clothes, then throwing her on the bed. She had been so close to being assaulted until Levi had come flying in like a shining knight to save her.

"What of Jean Pierre?" Lyse asked.

"He was arrested, very soon we are going to know if he had any accomplices and who they were." Levi said, "As for what you were drugged with, they took a sample of your blood last night. We will get results of that test soon."

When Levi reached out a hand and gently touched her face, Lyse remembered the car ride. The way she had clung to Levi, kissing him passionately and feeling up on him like a shameless hussy. It had been as if she was on heat. She felt a surge of embarrassment at her wanton behavior.

"Did we do anything?" She asked awkwardly, embarrassed by what the answer was going to be.

Levi looked affronted and he answered gruffly. "I could never do that to you." An akward silence ensued.

"I am so sorry, that must have felt like assault." she whispered, her face flushed. "I don’t know what came over me."

Levi smiled mischievously. "You are my wife, feel free to assault me anytime you wish."

When Lyse blushed red, he said softly. "Don’t worry about it, Lyse. You were under the influence of a powerful drug. It is not your fault but the fault of the creep that drugged you."

She looked up at him, her eyes filled with gratitude. "Thank you for saving me," she said and added in a whisper. "Always."

Lyse was reminded once more that Levi had been saving her from the moment she had entered the contract with him. He wholeheartedly looked out for her like no one did.

"It is what I am here for," he replied. "To protect you."

A comfortable silence fell between them. Lyse leaned against the headboard, her mind still reeling from the events of the previous night. "I feel so ashamed," she confessed. "I can’t believe that I let myself get into that situation."

Levi took her hand and raised it to his lips. "Don’t be ashamed, Lyse. You a are human who trusted the wrong person around you, you can’t be blamed for that. What matters is that you are safe with me now."

"I am so glad that you are okay," Levi said, pulling her into a warm embrace. "I was so worried about you. If Joel had not called me and I had not arrived on time..." he stopped mid sentence, unable to continue with the sentence. stricken as he was with the thought of what would have happened

Lyse looked away, guilt pervading her for how careless she had been in trusting that Jean Pierre did not have any ulterior motives towards her.

"Why did you meet up with Jean Pierre?" he asked after he had collected his thoughts.

"He is a merchandiser, I had hoped to convince him to push my brand to more people." She explained.

Levi’s brows creased in confusion. "Why did you not tell me? I could have had that sorted without you raising a single finger." He said sounding exasperated.

Lyse hesitated. "That is exactly why I wanted to handle it on my own," she admitted. "I did not want to bother you with my problems, you have already done so much."

Levi shook his head. "You are my wife, Lyse. Your problems are my problems. You should always talk to me, no matter what."

"Your fake wife." Lyse corrected him. "This is just a contract between us. And if I let you do everything for me, it makes everyone doubt my own abilities."

Levi stared at her, not comprehending her point. "My supporting you does not change a thing about your talent." He said, confused. "I am here to make things easier for you, contract wife or not and it is my."

Suddenly, Levi’s phone rang. Interrupting him from continuing with what he was saying.

He glanced at the screen of the phone and raised a finger at Lyse, signaling that he was about to answer the call.

"What do you have for me?@ he asked. His expression immediately shifted from relaxed to one of shock and disbelief.

"What do you mean he’s dead?" he asked, his voice rising. "How could this have happened? Who could have done this?"

Lyse, sensing the change in his demeanor, sat up straighter in the bed. "What is wrong, Levi?" she asked, concern etched on her face.

"Get more details and get back to me." He said then he hung up the phone, his face pale. "It’s Jean-Pierre," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "He is dead."

Lyse gasped, her eyes widening in shock. "What do you mean dead? What happened?"

A wave of revulsion hit her as she remembered how she had struggled with him in the hotel room. She was not sure about how she felt now that he was dead but she wondered how it had happened. Levi was definitely not responsible, he would not sound so shocked if he had ordered his death.

Levi shook his head. "I don’t know what happened. The police are investigating. But it’s clear that someone wanted him dead and they got it done swiftly."

A wave of fear washed over Lyse. If someone had killed Jean Pierre so quickly, could it have been because they were in cahoots? We’re they trying to hide evidence?

Levi came to her side once more and took her hand in his, his grip firm. "Don’t worry, Lyse. I will protect you."

Brett was lounging on his couch, a glass of whiskey in hand. He was lost in thoughts, his mind far away from the troubles of the world. The sudden, violent intrusion shattered his tranquility.

Levi burst into the room, his face flushed with anger. Before Brett could react, Levi lunged at him, fists raised. But before he could land a blow, two burly guards stepped in, restraining Levi.

"We need to stop doing this." Brett said coolly, his voice laced with amusement. "If you miss your big bro so much, all you need to do is call and I will let you come and play." He added mockingly.

Levi struggled against the guards’ grip, his eyes blazing with rage. "You think you can get away with this, Brett?" he growled. "You think you can harm my wife and face no consequences?"

Brett’s eyebrows furrowed. "What are you talking about? I have no idea what you are talking about."

Levi scoffed. "Don’t you play dumb with me, Brett. I know that you were behind the attack on Lyse, no one could be that devious. You drugged her, you set her up. You are a sick, twisted man."

Brett’s expression turned cold and harsh. "You are accusing me without any proof. Get out of my house before I call security and the police. I bet the paparazzi will be interested in seeing you get kicked out of my house."

Levi struggled against the guards’ grip, but he knew that he could not fight them. He had been enraged when he had heard that Jean Pierre had died and he had immediately rushed to Brett’s without a single thought than to had to find another way to give him a taste of his medicine. "You are going to pay for what you’ve done, Brett," he warned. "I promise you."

Brett started to laugh aloud then he gestured at the guards to release Levi, then he looked at him with a smug grin.

"Color me surprised Levi, I actually think that you are in love with this wife of yours." He said mockingly.

"Think whatever you want to think Brett, but the next time happens you will regret every single moment of your life." Brett warned and walked out.

When he had gone out, the affable look on his face faded and was replaced by a scornful and calculating look.
