I Married My Ex's Billionaire Father -
Chapter 39: Her Daughter
Chapter 39: Her Daughter
"All my plans are ruined." Brooke cried, "How does she always find a way to succeed?
Brooke had thought that she had gotten the man that Lyse wanted and it turned out that she would actually get married to a richer and better man.
The only thing that Brandon had on Levi was that he was younger, Brooke tried to cling to that but was still not appeased. It was not like he was some decrepit old guy, he did not even look his age.
"Don’t say that, we can always find a way to bring her down to her knees." Lottie comforted her.
"How??" Brooke wailed helplessly and Lottie sat still as she pondered how to deal with the situation that had suddenly presented itself.
She was seething with jealousy and frustration and could not believe that Lyse, the girl that she considered beneath them, had managed to marry a wealthy and powerful man while her daughter had to make do with Brandon.
Yes, her daughter. In order to ensure that her own child got the best that life had to offer, Lottie had switched the babies at birth and she did not regret it for even one day.
No one knew what she had done but she was okay with that as long as Lyse suffered.
"First of all we need to find out who that man is," Lottie said, her voice filled with venom. "We need to know everything about him."
"What man?"
"The man whose ring Lyse was wearing."
Brooke stopped crying and with tear tracks down her cheeks she looked incredulously at Lottie and she wanted to ask her if she was stupid but she did not want to antagonize her because she needed her support.
"What do you mean?" She asked, "Can’t you see that Levi is her husband? They are going to meet her family."
"Something does not just feel right." Lottie mused. "How did they meet, where and why did she stop wearing the ring? What is she hiding?"
Brooke stopped to consider what Lottie had said, she was right. Something about their marriage felt odd. He had not even announced it formally.
"Do you have an idea of what we can do?"
Lottie nodded, her eyes gleaming with malice. "I know just the person. A private investigator, someone who is very good at digging up dirt, if there is anything to hide he will find it."
"Okay when do we go meet this person?" Brooke demanded.
"We can go tomorrow." Lottie said Lazily as she lay back on the lounger.
"No, We have to go now! I will not rest until Lyse pays for everything."
It was ironic that Brooke felt that way because if she had considered the fact that Lyse being married to someone meant that she could go on with Brandon without any interactions.
But the problem was that Brooke had seen Lyse as competition for so long and she could not bear the thought of Lyse being happy. If Lyse was not miserable and unhappy then it meant that she was unfulfilled.
With a sigh Lottie got up and got ready and together they met with the private investigator, a shadowy figure named Marcus. They explained their situation, their voices laced with bitterness and resentment.
"I want to know everything about this man," Brooke demanded. "His name, his address, his family, everything."
"We also want to know when the marriage between Lyse and Levi Van Doren was registered." Lottie added.
Marcus listened intently, a sly smile playing on his lips. "Don’t you worry, ladies. I will find out everything that you need to know very soon."

"What are you doing?" Lyse demanded as she leaned back as far as she could go while staring down at Levi’s lips which unfortunately looked inviting, she could feel her body stir from his closeness.
"Helping you buckle up." Levi said then snapped the buckle then stared at her lips while she held her breath, too distracted by him. "Safety first."
Then he abruptly leaned back in his seat and looked away.
Lyse scowled at him, feeling angry with herself for her body’s reaction to him. "You could have just told me and I would have done it myself." She snapped, "I have hands you know."
Levi turned to her and held her gaze. "What sort of husband would I be if I let my brand new wife lift even a finger when I am right there to fulfil all her needs."
Lyse hissed and turned away from him and looked out of the window as the plane began its lift off. It annoyed Lyse that the jet was big enough and there were only five of them in the cabin, nine if you included the crew. So Levi could sit comfortably anywhere else but he insisted on sitting beside her.
’Probably just so that he can irritate me.’ She thought.
She took a calming breath and decided to take a nap, she could not help that immediately she got on a plane she started to feel sleepy and since Levi had told her that their destination was just a little over two hours away she could avoid speaking to him that way.
She said a silent prayer of gratitude that they were in a private jet with roomy seats so that she was not feeling cramped. She leaned her head back, closed her eyes and soon after was fast asleep.
Behind them Ethan stared at his boss and his new wife in alarm. He knew that his boss intended to pass off as a couple in love but they could not stand each other, how would they succeed?
On the rare occasion when he met the women who hoped to snag his boss, they were usually very happy to be in his presence and were acquiescent to his ever whim.
On the other hand, Lyse who had gotten what all the women wanted very obviously did not like him. And instead of the boss to let her be, he seemed to enjoy agitating her so that they were constantly fighting.
It felt like he had gotten front row seats to a very spectacular crash and even though he was afraid of how it would end, he could not say that he was not entertained.
When Lyse woke up about an hour later, she was wondering why the surface was hard when Levi said, "Did you enjoy your pillow?"
