I Married My Ex's Billionaire Father -
Chapter 40: Drooled On Him
Chapter 40: Drooled On Him
Lyse sat up and gasped in horror as a silvery thread of drool connected from her mouth to Levi’s suit.
"Ohmigoshimsosorry." Lyse said, her cheeks reddening as she tried to clean the mess she had made.
The fact that she had fallen asleep, leaned on Levi, left her mouth open and even drooled on him made her want to disappear. She wondered why he had even let her stay there when he could have woken her up or even moved her head away.
"I don’t think I have ever heard someone snore that loudly, I am surprised that my ear is still working." Levi taunted.
Lyse angrily got up and attempted to get out of her seat but in her hurry she did not notice that Levi’s legs were stretched out and she ended up tripping.
Then she fell into his arms.
"I know that you find me irresistible but you don’t need to play all these games, I am willing to let you do whatever you like as long as you beg me long and hard." Levi whispered in her ears.
Lyse’s face turned red and she shot up out of his arms and stormed away while Levi chuckled at her.
When she got into the toilet she glared at her image in the mirror and growled angrily. She wished that she could just jump out of the plane or lock herself in the little room, anything so that she would not have to see the arrogant jackass she had tied herself to.
But she was not a coward and she refused to let Levi think that he had won. So after she slapped cold water on her warm face, she walked back to the seat with her held high and even when she noticed Levi’s smirk she did not react and simply waited for him to move his legs out of her way.
"I would appreciate it if you kept your hands to yourself in future." Lyse whispered angrily and Levi’s grin grew wider. "And I do not snore!" She added, her vanity was hurt by his lie.
He leaned close to her and whispered so that only she could hear. "Sweetheart, you were the one who was draped over me. As the gentleman that I am I only obliged you." And when Lyse threw a scorching look in his direction he added, "and you definitely snore, Thomas the Train has nothing on you."
Lyse fumed while she looked straight ahead, fearing that if she turned and saw Levi laughing at her she would definitely attack him with the fresh pedicure that she had been given.
In the back Ethan was staring at his boss and Lyse with his jaw hanging in disbelief. His boss had been laughing and whispering to Lyse and it confused him. It was like some body snatchers had taken over his boss because the man who was whispering and teasing was not the firm no nonsense man he knew.
He sensed that there was going to be a shift in their lives and he did not even know if his boss knew it.
A few minutes after Lyse had returned to her seat, their private jet pilot informed them that they would be arriving their destination soon. Lyse was instantly excited at the prospect of stretching her legs then she remembered that she was visiting Levi’s mother for the first time and anxiety took over.
She had never had a great experience with her own mother and after Brandon’s mother had humiliated her, she did not think that she would have much luck with Levi’s mother either.
She could already see the disdain on the woman’s elegant face. Lyse had scoured the internet for pictures of the elusive matriarch of the Van Doren family and she knew what she looked like.
And that woman did not look like one who would appreciate a much younger ’bastard gold digger’ as her precious son’s wife.
Lyse shrugged, in the end if Levi’s mother rejected her then that would even be a good thing since she would not be forced to continue the stupid charade.
After the plane dropped, they all got into a helicopter. Lyse was as they hovered over a most beautiful island. She marveled at a waterfall in the distance and wondered how much money was spent to make the place look like some dreamy resort.
The helicopter ride was short but breathtaking. As they descended and got closer her eyes widened in awe. More of the private island unfolded, a lush paradise surrounded by crystal-clear waters. The sight was both humbling and awe-inspiring. She could not help but wonder about the history of this place, the generations of Levi’s family who had called it home.
As they touched down on the helipad, Lyse felt a surge of anticipation and fear. She stepped out of the helicopter, the warm tropical air enveloping her.
Levi gently took Lyse’s hand and despite her earlier annoyance with him instantly felt better. She knew that he was doing it only because of appearances but she was grateful as it made her feel less alone and intimidated.
Before them was a bald man standing and he smiled as they came forward.
"Welcome back home Mr Levi," the man said, his voice welcoming and warm.
"It is good to be home Alfred." Levi said and Alfred grunted and said gruffly.
"You say so and instantly disappear not to be seen for months sir."
"If i don’t work how will I pay you Alfred." Levi teased.
Lyse smiled at the easy camaraderie between the two men, it was obvious to see that there was affection between them.
Levi turned to Lyse and pulled her closer to him.
"This is Lyse, my wife."
Lyse’s cheeks warmed as the man turned to her with frank appraisal then he smiled warmly.
"It is lovely to have you with us Mrs Lyse, congratulations. I hope that you will have a good time here."
Lyse nodded, her gaze drawn to the sprawling mansion that dominated the landscape. It was a magnificent structure, a blend of traditional and modern architecture. The building seemed to rise from the very heart of the island, a testament to the family’s wealth and power.
"I am sure that I will, thank you Alfred." Lyse said even though in her hearts of hearts she was not sure.
She had a sneaking suspicion that the residents of that house were going to be snubs and she might not have a good time after all. But at least the butler had been nice to her or maybe he was only doing that because Levi was standing right there.
As they approached the mansion, Lyse couldn’t shake the feeling of being out of her depth. She had grown up in a modest household, far removed from the world of luxury and privilege. Every step she took felt like she was treading on hallowed ground.
"Is mother home?" Levi asked.
"Mrs Van Doren went out briefly but she should be back soon."
Suddenly the front door swung open and Lyse stiffened. A young girl ran out of the door and flew to Lyse.
"Oh gosh, you are stunning!" She said as she took a hold of Lyse’s hands, "How did Levi get you to agree to be his wife?"
"Laurie." Levi said in a warning tone but Laurie just rolled her eyes.
"I have always wanted a sister, I am glad you are not old because Levi is old." She continued and Lyse’s eyes widened while Levi sighed.
"Laurie, you are going to scare her off."
Laurie pouted, "If you did not scare her off then I doubt I can do it." She shrugged and Levi shook his head in exasperation.
"This chatterbox who does not know when to stop is my sister Laurie." He said to Lyse then turned to Laurie, "Laurie, meet Lyse."
The group walked through the open door that revealed a spacious foyer. The interior was as impressive as the exterior, with high ceilings, marble floors, and exquisite artwork. A sense of history hung in the air, a silent reminder of the family’s legacy in the form of portraits that were hung on the wall.
"Now I see exactly why you wanted to hide her from the world, you guys must have been busy making babies." Laurie said and at that point Lyse was ready to slink through a crack in the floor.
Levi opened his mouth to scold her and was interrupted by a sharp voice.
"Laurie Mona Van Doren, what is that I heard come out of your mouth young lady."
They all turned their heads in the direction of the voice where the regal looking woman stood at the top of the stairs.
Her face was devoid of a smile as she came down the stairs and Lyse felt her heart sink. She was flooded by memories of that horrid wedding day and she would have bolted out of the house if not because of Levi and Laurie who were holding her hands.
