Chapter 29: Moved On

TRIGGER WARNING: Slur used

Immediately Brooke was out of the door, Brandon got his keys and sped out of the house and down the highway without realizing that Brooke’s shiny red convertible was following a couple of cars behind him. His mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. Anger, frustration, and a deep sense of betrayal which threatened to swallow him while.

When he had received the news that Lyse, the woman he had once loved, had gotten married from Brooke he had been filled with a dread that it was true. Brooke’s confident smirk told him that it was probably true but he did not want to believe it, he refused to believe it!

He could not believe that after all he had put her through, she had just moved on without a single thought about him. And not just moved on, but married. It was a slap in the face, a public humiliation to him.

"Nahh, it can’t be, Brooke must be lying." He murmured to himself.

He knew how much Brooke despised Lyse so he knew that she was capable of cooking up an elaborate lie just so that he would stop thinking of Lyse but he simply refused to accept it.

Lyse was not that kind of person, she was loyal, sweet and much too tame to have cheated on him so where would she have gotten someone to marry in such a short time?

He had to see for himself and actually know what was going on. And what was this about Lyse being in the hospital after having an accident, why had he not been informed after all he was her emergency contact.

He frowned at the thought that she had removed him as her emergency contact, he could not believe that she was already discarding him after having loved him since they were teenagers.

As he pulled into the hospital parking lot, his heart pounded in his chest. He had to see her, to confront her. He needed to know if she was really married to someone and why she had done this to him.

He stormed into the hospital, his eyes scanning the waiting room. Then his eyes locked on her in the midst of people walking past the reception and out the front door. She was more beautiful than ever, her face radiating happiness despite the plaster on her head.

"Lyse!" he called out, his voice filled with anger.

She stopped and turned to face him, her expression a mix of surprise and annoyance as she looked around them. "Brandon? What are you doing here?"

"I need to talk to you," he demanded, his voice rising.

"There is nothing to talk about Brandon," she replied coldly and continued to walk, trying to move past him.

Lyse had just been discharged from the hospital and she was on her way home when she was suddenly accosted by Brandon. His presence at the hospital told her one thing, Brooke had not been able to shut her big mouth.

Brandon stepped in front of her to stop her from moving any further and she stopped and took a deep breath to calm herself.

He raised his hands in surrender then took a deep breath before saying in a pleading voice, "Just tell me that it is not true"

Lyse stared at him incredulously and started to laugh so hard that she had to hold her aching belly. When she was finished she straightened her shoulders and stared at him.

"You have no right to question me Brandon, nothing about me concerns you. Please let’s keep things that way."

At that point it dawned on Brandon that Lyse was married. She had not said yes to his answer but she had not denied it either. He felt all his hopes dashed to the ground and he felt ill.

"That’s not possible." he said, his voice shaking with disbelief. "Don’t you care about me at all?"

Lyse scoffed. "Spare me the drama, Brandon. You are the one who walked away from me. You are the one who broke my heart. You chose this, you chose to stand by while your mother humiliated me in front of all those people."

Brandon’s face suddenly changed and anger flared. "You were with someone else the whole time we were together, weren’t you? You were cheating on me and acting like you were an innocent when you are really just a disgusting whore like my mother said."

Lyse’s eyes flashed with fury. "You have the audacity to accuse me of cheating? You are the one who could not commit. You are the one who left me heartbroken and at the altar and you went for my own sister."

She stood at her full height and smirked, "Moreover, I got the chance to be with a better man than you can ever be and I took it. Can you really blame me?"

Brandon lunged forward, his face contorted with rage. But before he could even touch her, a tall, imposing figure stepped between them. It was Lyse’s new bodyguard, Joel and he stood towering over Brandon who was taken aback.

"Stay back," the bodyguard warned, his voice low and menacing. "I will not be held responsible for what happens if you try to attack Mrs Lyse."

Brandon glared at the bodyguard in disbelief, wondering how Lyse had a bodyguard. He wondered who she had married but it was obvious that she had not married some random man off the street.

He wanted badly to attack but the muscles rippling from underneath his suit, he knew better than to provoke him. He turned to Lyse who was looking smugly at him, his eyes filled with resentment.

"You are going to regret this, Lyse," he growled. "I will make sure that you pay."

"Hold on! Who do we have here?" A voice suddenly called out mockingly. "I don’t believe what my eyes are seeing."

James who had run back to the hospital room because they realized that he had forgotten his phone got back right in time to see Brandon. He was gleeful because he had never been able to stand Lyse’s ex and the feeling was mutual.

"I’m guessing your stupid little tart of a girlfriend ran off to tell you about Lyse’s happiness." He chuckled and Brandon clenched his fists angrily.

"I don’t have anything to say to you fag." He spat derisively.

In a twinkling of an eye James had struck Brandon squarely in the face and Brandon staggered back while holding his face while blood dropped from between his fingers.

"Oh my god!" A voice screeched loudly and Brooke who had been hiding and listening to everything as it transpired came running to Brandon’s side.

"That was for hurting my girl. The next time you try to use a slur make sure that you are ready for the consequences." James said as he flexed his fingers which were sore from punching Brandon.

"You are going to go to jail for this you stupid queen." Brooke screamed at them while people stopped to watch the ensuing drama.

Lyse simply rolled her eyes and walked away while James and Joel followed her. She knew that Brooke and Brandon were not going to take things lying down. They would find some way to retaliate but she would deal with that when the time came.

Brandon watched as Lyse turned away and the pain in his heart hurt more than the pain in his nose. Lyse had actually gotten married, she had been taken away from him.

His heart hardened as he watched a car pull up and the bodyguard opened the door so that she could get in. He would not let her walk away just like that. She was his and he would have her even she was married to another man or not.

"Oh baby, I am so sorry that my cheap sister and her loser of a gay friend hurt you." Brooke said and reached out for Brandon. "Let me see how bad it is."

Brandon took a step back and glared at her, "Whya are you here?" He demanded.

She stopped then lowered her hands and glared back at him, "I should be asking you that question. Why are you here?" She retorted.

Brandon glared at her for a minute then he turned and stormed away feeling defeated and humiliated. And even when a nurse came towards him he turned away and got into his car and stuffed tissues in his nose which was fortunately not broken.

As he drove away from the hospital, he could not shake the feeling that he had lost something precious, something irreplaceable. He wished that he had the backbone to stand up to his mother and insisted on marrying Lyse, she would still be his if he had done that.

Brooke watched as Brandon’s car disappeared from sight. She felt a sense of irritation and anger, but also a pang of sadness. She loved Brandon, how could he not see that?

He had run off to see Lyse and she had ended up humiliating him and even getting him beat up but he was more angry with her than he was with Lyse, how unfair was that?
