Chapter 26: She Thought That He Was In Love With Her

He heard the soft thud as the object hit the pillow and still staying sucked he said, "Alexa, lights." And the space was flooded by bright lights.

"Hey scaredy cat."

Levi rose to his full height and adjusted himself then raised an eyebrow at the young girl standing across from him with a mischievous smirk.

"I knew it was you." He said calmly.

"No you did not!" She pouted.

"No one else has the audacity to try a sneak attack on me in my own apartment plus i smelled old lady perfume immediately I stepped into the apartment." He said as he reached a hand out and ruffled her hair like she was a pet.

She stepped back and bristled as she smoothed her hair down, "Don’t do that! I am not a child and just so you know, Chanel No. 5 is the best selling perfume in the world." She retorted.

"Because old ladies buy it." He taunted with a smile while she frowned at him. "So, won’t your favorite brother get a hug?" He said as he spread his arms wide but she pouted and turned her face away.

"If you won’t hug me then I have no other choice than to become the tickle monster." He said as he ran to her and grabbed her before she could get away and he started to tickle her until she screamed aloud and begged for mercy.

After both had gotten their breath from their vigorous play the two sat looking at each other, their faces reddened with a sheen of sweat from the activity.

"Why are you here brat? Should you not be in school?" He asked affectionately.

"I was bored so I left." Levi raised a scolding eyebrow but she remained undaunted.

"Mother is not going to be happy to learn that." He scolded.

"She won’t find out unless you tell her." She said then added mischievously, "Moreover I think that she will be too busy with you to even think about me."

Levi tilted his head towards her and asked, "What do you mean?"

A mischievous glint lit up eyes which were identical to his.

"I know what you did." She said knowingly, "I’m surprised that mother has not called you yet, all her friends must have already called her."

Just then Levi’s phone rang and he pulled it out of his pocket and scowled. The girl leaned over to look at the screen the guffawed loudly.

"Just like clockwork!" She said smugly.

Levi made faces at her before answering the phone call and he was immediately accosted by a loud voice.

"Why did I have to hear this news from the nosy women in my bridge club!"

Levi ran a hand through his hair in exasperation his mother did not call him very often because she believed that he was a grown man who was capable of living his life without her supervision so when she did he had to answer if not she would leave whatever she was doing to come find him.

And he would rather do anything than allow that because he would be subjected to her trying to matchmake him.

"How dare you marry in secret? Why was i not aware that you had found someone you wanted to marry? Who is she? When am I going to see her?"

The questions came in quick succession and Levi groaned.

"My wife is busy right now so you can’t see us but as soon as she can we will come visit."

"Levi Anderson Van Doren!" She screamed shrilly and he winced. "I will be throwing a welcome to the family party for this wife of yours in a week and you better be there or else!" She left the threat hanging.

"Yes Mother." Levi answered dejectedly knowing that he could not win that fight. He had expected this.

"Okay, take care of yourself son and don’t work too hard, instead work hard on bringing me grand babies." She said in a gentler tone then she added.

"I know that Laurie is in your city and I am sure that you both have run into each other. Bring her along with you to the party." Then she ended the call leaving Levi standing there with the phone against his ear.

He was a grown man, a CEO. Women clamored to be around him and men respected him but everytime he spoke to his mother she made him feel like a little boy.

Looking at his face Laurie giggled then Levi turned to her with a scowl, "Don’t be jubilant, she knows that you are here."

Laurie’s face fell, "But how did she know that?"

Levi shrugged, his mother was all knowing. "She will be throwing a party in a week and you are to be there."

Laurie groaned at the prospect of having to go to the family estate where their stuffy friends would be in attendance then she jumped closer to Levi and looked expectantly at him.

"What?!" He demanded.

"Where is she?"

"Where is who?"

Laurie rolled her eyes impatiently.

"Where is your bride? I expected to see her in your apartment. What is she like? When will I see her?"

"She is very pretty." He said as he thought about the little firecracker he had married, "And headstrong, very talented, she is pretty independent too and sometimes I think that she does not like me." He added with a chuckle.

Laurie stared at him for a minute then blurted out, "You are in love."

Levi was about to vehemently deny it then he remembered that he was expected to be in love.

"That is generally why people get married isn’t it?"

"I never thought I would see the day." Laurie said in awe, "so when do I meet this paragon?"

"Soon." Levi said as he remembered that he was supposed to visit Lyse.

He shrugged, deciding against going. After all it was not a real marriage and he did not need to check up on her all the time. She had her best friend with her and the house staff and all the men he had sent to guard her. She would be okay without him.

He refused to admit it but he was bothered by the fact that his sister thought that he was in love with Lyse.
